  1. Are you talking about helicopters or the AN-2 plane? You do realise for helicopters it is actually Auto-Hover and not a landing auto-pilot? The control is designed to slow the helicopter to zero horizontal speed and maintain a fixed hover ... which it will try to do whenever selected, regardless of current height and speed. It does not control height when engaged, so if big inputs are made with the collective, the helicopter will still either spear into the ground or zoom into the sky.

    The animal system must have been broken in 1.8 as it was (and is) working in 1.7.7.1
  3. The public hive is locked down, not least because the ability to interrogate it for player info could lead to unwanted revelations. On private hives information retrieval is already possible. Have a look at DayZcc for an example.
  4. Get on the bus north with everyone else here. Seriously, if necessary it is possible to get most of the way up the map on a single tin of soda and can of beans.

    Why We Need A Release Date

    The history of flawed pharmaceuticals is long and inglorious, but that is another story and largely down to unpleasant side of human nature rather than project management. Perhaps if the wind and piss from all the armchair games industry gurus in these forums was collected and harnessed, the sequel to the SA would almost be out the door by now. :emptycan:

    Lolwut? Were you born stupid or does it take conscious effort? If you don't HAVE a gun,or any ammo for for a gun, how the hell can you shoot someone to get anything? If firearms are rare, then there won't BE many players running around with them. :facepalm:

    I would imagine that its not hard to implement loot control in the mod as well, with numeric item limits across the hive or per server ... let me see ... like vehicles. Why it isn't used already is quite frankly unfathomable.

    For some strange reason I always end up hoarding cans of Frank 'n' Beans, maybe because I used to like them as a kid. However, the holy flesh of the swine knows no equal, I even salivate when cooking it in game like some odd Pavlovian response. Beeeeeer-caaaaaaaaaan as they say in Rasta.

    Social has already failed. One vdeo game overflowing with guns. Teenage boys with no conscience and little more imagination enjoy pretending to shoot people with guns so much, they come to a game not even intended for deathmatch ... because it is full of guns. Solution: less guns. Far less guns.

    Not if there aren't enough guns to go around. Getting one then becomes a significant mission in itself. More challenge, less kill on sight, because chair legs and hammers require point blank interaction. Those few who get guns and ammo become e-peen heroes without the whole game being a shooting gallery, guns become an aspirational item, KOS has to become KOC ... kill on contact, a whole new ball game. Far less more rubbish excuses like "sorry dude I panicked and fired", or "I thought you were a zed". Now it becomes up close and personal. Everyone mobs that loser on cherno hill like a plague of zeds for his bang tube, then all kill each other with sticks to decide who's going to run off with the holy rifle. That's survival.
  14. Suppressed weapons can fire normal rounds and will reduce the sound and velocity, albeit to a lesser degree, but will wear out or fail after less rounds fired. Some suppressors are tailored for normal rounds and others for low power alternatives, but mostly the difference is no more than how long the suppressor will last. SD rounds are simply filled with less and/or lower grain propellant, reducing muzzle velocity further. They will increase the suppression and life of the device, but are not usually necessary. The second dimension of ammunition measurement is the length of the casing, an indicator of the propellant charge size and hence relative power. The Makarov in game fires 9mm calibre (diameter) x 18mm case length, or 9x18 round. The M9 fires 9x19, a slightly longer casing. Though the calibre is the same, the round will generally not be interchangeable. .22 calibre is the imperial inch equivalent of 5.56mm and is the diameter of the bullet, having nothing to do with its velocity. In its DayZ guise, the .22 round is most definitely supersonic ... also known as the 5.56x51 NATO STANAG round. .22 Rimfire is probably what most people refer to when quoting .22 ... aka 5.6x15R, used in recreational and competitive shooting.

    Why not? As long as the amount in game is hard coded into the hive, say so that only, erm, (pluck from sky) six .50 rifles can exist at any one time in the whole of DayZ. Now that would give you your buzz, only six across hundreds of servers ... like looking for a Yeti. The few proud owners amongst thousands of rabid searchers in the community would become the most hunted players in DayZ. Those who want the holy bang sticks can chase them to doomsday, knowing that getting one is a marvellous achievement ... and a curse of the highest order. The weapons themselves will be too rare too be a nuisance and nobody will dare fire them much, for fear of being lynched by a deluge of wannabes. A solution with poetic justice methinks. In fact do the same thing to varying degrees of rarity for the other sniper penises and military pin-ups as well.

    Lolwut? Gun numbers have nothing to do with play style! You would have to put in more of that ... disgusting ... EFFORT ... to end up with a gun instead of tripping over them in supermarkets and sheds..     No need for a contrived game mechanic to change the mentality of the game. Simply make armament levels vaguely reflect reality instead of scattering firearms like confetti. Its Eastern Europe, gone to hell in a hand cart. Reduce the amount of guns and ammo, with a light scattering of AK's, civilian rifles and pistols, but make military exotica legendary rare in proportion to its capability. Fix gun numbers with hard coded limits across the whole hive, to prevent dupers and server hoppers from massively inflating the amount of firearms, especially exotica like they have always done so far. Percentage probability just doesn't cut it in the face of persistent farming. Players loot the damn barracks in an eternal conga until the right toys finally appear. Until 1.8 duping was shockingly simple and you can bet some asshat will be pulling all manner of stupid moves right now until they figure out a new way ... then posting it on Youtube. Why do people think there were so many of the unmentionable big calibre cannons and sniper penises when they were supposed to be rare? Duped and farmed to hell, that's why. Substitute reduced gun numbers with, let me see, more melee weapons, again more in line with reality. Fence posts, furniture legs, tyre irons, dusbin lids, hammers ... a handful of chainsaws for laughs? A few tazers? Some short bows, long bows and slings to supplement crossbows? Two of the most deficient player qualities in DayZ are the most useful assets for seeing the way ahead with this ... selflessness and imagination.

    Simple solution ... make guns and ammo rare. Currently there's far too much armament and not enough anything-else, making the mod a thinly disguised combat FPS instead of an apocalyptic survival sim.
  20. Pitch black my arse. I pretty much exclusively play during in-game night time. There has been almost no complete darkness since 1.7.7 introduced moonlit nights, just to pander to anti-dark crowd. Even in 1.6.x.x and before, ArmA 2's day/night cycle has always been completely satisfactory and plausible by any game standards, providing a believable mix of moonlit and cloudy night cycles dependent on the environment and calendar. With the excellent implementation of day/night and weather for a game, plenty of light sources to use in game, and with correct monitor and room light settings, the only problem that exists is with the player, their preferences, will to deal with challenge and ability to play in the most beneficial room environment.
  21. Mountain green sounds like the Chernarussian real deal, compared to Dew being NATO STANAG fizzy pop. For washing down a can of peas on Green mountain, in a Ghillie suit, wearing NVG's ... damn that superstitious fetish.
