Dayz SA to be a failure

Porting the DayZ mod to A3 will only make it prettier, not magically give it the extensive custom feature set of the SA. Wasteland is already on A3 Alpha.
  2. No worries Burt and thanks for the beans :D
  3. Once you get the best gear? Get spare sets of gear and set up a backup camp or two, Try to find and use every different type of vehicle, Start a parts supply service, Become a huntsman meat supplier Play taxi driver for fellow survivors, Run a bus route ... and keep your jalopy on the road Find, repair and run a helicopter, then go out on air recon ... getting decent kit is just the beginning. Well it is if you actually interact with the game and other players past becoming a sad AS50 hugging sociopath bush wookie.
  4. I would say cap view and object distance client side rather than lock it, purely for the sake of maintaining scalability for those with modest hardware, who will be begging for a reduction at zilch fps.

    What populates a DayZ server?

Vanilla DayZ. The point of the mod is software testing.

Dayz SA to be a failure

Perhaps some should wake up and get a grip on what the mod actually is ... a sand box with 1.6 million guinea pigs running around. Do you really think DayZ now reflects the intent of the final product other than the base scenario and general environment? For some significant time, individual and sometimes rather disconnected features, including related problems, have been injected into the mod build like a software Lego set. Player behavioural patterns have been both influenced and ignored in turn. 1.7.6.1 was a mixture of fixes and small chunks of guinea pig food. Welcome to an open development model and social science project all you lab rats ... where the price of admission is actually the most valuable of all ... your time and effort.
  7. Indeed Mitor. Perhaps hanging onto the coat tails of others or joining a Christmas server is a damning indictment of the modern trend for instant gratification without effort. Which is in turn devoid of entertainment value or a sense of achievement, but then I suppose ignorance is bliss.
  8. Why not keep your options open ... a loose alliance of independent operators mixed with solitude seems to work quite well.

    Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?

Not this again. Short answer is NO. This topic can be closed now.

Why do you shoot unarmed players?

Pretty much everyone I've not gunned down has ended up either being useful or doing me a good turn in one way or another. The feckless blabber of bravado and disdain under the universal safety net of the web used to be an amusing phenomenon, now it is just the norm.
  11. Top Tip? If you want to remain in a team and make gaming mates ... don't follow wannabe trolls to bore town. Talking of which ... @ the dynamic duo of Applejaxc and iegle: Use of third party comms is available to EVERYONE and thus not an unfair advantage. That is unless you are either incapable of social interaction or have alienated others so badly that they won't to talk to you, in which case that is your problem. If you want DayZ with a no comms policy, simply attract like minded players and you'll soon bore each other into silence. Some like to socialise whilst they game, because that is all it is ... a game ... entertainment ... fun? Is there an unhealthy hint of gaming dependency and seriousness going on there?
  12. @Applejaxc: Flat footed can be several things, including the tendency to be caught off guard (not just being caught), and/or to walk with a noisy plodding gait, as if physically having fallen arches. It is also in a similar manner, a derogatory term for a beat cop, who may be said to plod and be easily caught off guard. I'm with _Anubis_ regarding peripheral controllers and the like. How is something freely available and intended for use with the game an unfair advantage? Why wouldn't I use my Saitek Cyborg stick to fly? They are cheap and strangely enough, designed exactly for flying in games. ArmA2 even names the controls "saitek". Moreover, whoever is masochistic enough to play this kind of game on a console is welcome to any form of entertainment they can get from it. I'll continue to abuse my "unfair" advantage of keyboard, mouse and dual displays. If I had more free monitors and free desk space I would consider using TrackIR too, because ArmA2 specifically supports it. As for comms, if I am playing DayZ with others, I'll use whatever is common amongst us to talk ... something to do with having and/or making friends, which isn't cheating funnily enough. However, nitpicking in forums isn't a good way to make them.

Why do you shoot unarmed players?

Unless said unarmed player is being an inconsolable nuisance, what is the point? Waste of ammo. I would guess that those who are entertained by it have some kind of real life inadequacy they need to compensate for by feeling big on the internet.
  14. On public servers it would most likely depend on the restart policy and whether they have bugs in their setup. The most I have normally seen is for two crash sites to spawn a few hundred metres apart. There are too many public servers on a four hour restart cycle, which may be efficient for the server hardware, but allows bugger all to build up. [rant] Frequent unannounced restarts also make servers haemorrhage casual players, who don't understand what's going on when dumped on their arse with the "session lost" message. Server admins ... add a fecking five minute timer message to warn of impending restarts! [/rant]
  15. For some strange reason this is the one thing that stuck from the OP ... Canadian slip? Call Terrance and Philip!
  16. Don't work with anyone you haven't got to know from a distance, especially having witnessed the staggering number of flat footed, trigger happy, dinner bell ringing buffoons that populate Chernarus.

    Satchel Charges

I already know the exact location of the SUV spawn thank you, that was not the point I was making. What I said was that I have only ever had the SUV from there on private hives. On the public hive I have only ever seen or heard of the flames paint job dirt bike at that spawn ... which is what it used to be before the SUV any way.

    Satchel Charges

As for satchel charges, I've had a grand total of two from many visits to both NWAF barrack dorms. I've only ever had the SUV twice on private vanilla hives. On public I've only ever seen or heard of the dirt bike with the flames paint job at Novy Lug.
  19. How many times have you looked at objects in game and thought "what if I could combine X with Y to make Z?". This isn't a suggestion, however, as it has been giving plenty of airing in that respect and there is no doubt that crafting is in DayZ already and will only become more prevalent. What I'm considering is the combinations of existing loot items and/or actions in game have caught your imagination, or have made you think "if only ..." Here's a few to start off with, that I've encountered from various sources along the way. Fuel + Whiskey Bottle + Toilet Paper or Bandages = Molotov Fuel + Wood Pile + Bandages = Torch Water supply + Empty Tin Can or Empty Soda Can or Whiskey Bottle = Drink (menu action that quenches thirst and can't be placed in the inventory, like cook meat or fill water) Bandages + Wood Pile = Splint (alternative to morphine for broken bones, but leaves player shaking that requires pain killers) Over to you ...
  20. On my way through NWAF on an SD ammo run, gunning across the airfield on a dirt bike. A little too fast for the infected spawning in ... one of which does so right in front of me. Brief flight over the bars about ten metres or so followed by broken bones, lots of blood and yelling. Vision goes blurry and cuts to dead screen before the infected even got to me. Nice chap offers me a lift up from the south coast on his ATV. On the first pick up from Cherno I get swiped off the back seat by an infected, more broken bones, blood and death. On the second pick up from Komarovo, we blast north only to be greeted by the dreaded "session lost" half way up. One server restart later its goodbye to the kit on my dead, fully tooled up bush wookie. At least the bike was sat there in the middle of the tarmac when we finally arrived. Later on, scavenging for gear in Berezino, I roll into the south end with the engine off and coast to a halt near the hospital. The area is already populated with infected, so perhaps I've got company. I roll the bike into one of those small scruffy sheds for safe keeping and it fits, or so I think, looking back inside to see ... nothing. Outside, nothing. Where the hell did it go? On the shed roof no less, on its side, unmountable but the inventory available. I chance logging out and back in, lo and behold the bike had righted itself, so I mounted it whilst still on the shed roof and dropped off to the ground in one piece. Phew.

    Underground Subway?

Have some beans ... cellars in buildings, sewers and storm drains would be great. Rocket talked about underground structures in presentations last year, in part at least as a solution to the potential performance killer of allowing players to build on the surface. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/39614-underground-bases-opens-a-whole-new-world-of-possibilities/
  22. Not having a single player mode, or a LAN mode that can be played offline. If I'm paying for entertainment I prefer to choose who that is with.
  23. I saw this after a session in DE 4319 last week. On spawning in I was dropped from the sky to my death. As I knew where my corpse was, I set off to retrieve hard scavenged gear before I left. After a long run from Kamenka (see, some of us don't jump off the bridge) I was in Vybor supermarket and had an invisible follower join my journey. He trailed me all the way up to the ATV spawn site north of NWAF, where I collected my gear and logged out. On joining my next session I received that dud script error message and appeared at Vybor supermarket ... coincidentally where I picked up my invisible companion ... and not the ATV site where I left last.

    New hack? or what

^ What svisketyggeren says. Simples. The hive remembers where you are and what you have when you exit, so what's the big deal? Recently I logged out ASAP after having a broken bone icon appear without any break, followed by being being pinned to the ground prone ... then watched in bemusement as over 40 players stayed in game to die from explosions and being dropped from the sky.
