There does seem to be something server-side going on. On some servers I get a hideous slideshow at minimum settings across the board. On others I can run it at high settings perfectly smoothly. Try a couple of different servers.

I'm no expert and I'm sure folks more involved with the community will know more but personally I'd be very surprised to see much movement on the mod from now on. The emphasis is firmly on the standalone. I'm now telling my gaming buddies who are interested in DayZ not to bother getting ArmaII (unless they want to play ArmaII) and wait for the standalone.

I must confess, I would have been VERY hesitant about that. Looks very fishy indeed! I don't even approach downed helis without backup and having circled round the surrounding tree-line.

Might be different now they have Greenlight.

Trouble is, I don't see a good way round it. The only real suggestion I have seen is to have the player persist for a short while after they have exited out. Trouble with that is that I have a truly awful internet connection and get booted for high ping or just lose connection completely on a regular basis. I'm not overly enamoured with the idea of my guy hanging around looking vacant while I'm screaming and shouting at my router again. I kinda like the fact that my dude blinks out of existence immediately. As for those that do it... Well, it's cheating. Plain and simple. Doing it just because you've got yourself a shiny new gun or whatever is no excuse - It's still cheating. As in all walks of life there are those that will cheat and those that won't. I don't lose any sleep over it.

Can't stand the vague sights on the 1911. I don't really like a gun that sends its rounds in the rough direction you're pointing rather than what you're actually aiming at. Revolver is much better. I'll drop the 1911 for the revolver all day long.

Hmm, it would seem that my *touch wood* did little to prevent me jinxing my hackerless run... Got thoroughly raped by them last night. Our little 3 man team all lost our several week old characters, our camp and our brand spanking new car (our first ever vehicle). Probably gonna call it a day till the Standalone now tbh.

AKM and G17. Mostly cos I can never seem to find anything better. Or if I do there's no ammo for it. I'm not dropping my AKM and plentiful ammo for a gun with only one mag and little chance of finding more. I was trying to build up a stash of ammo in various tents but everything I store gets stolen or eaten by the tent.

Voted Survivor. I don't KoS and would much prefer to have friendly interactions but I don't like getting killed. Last night we came across a dude who was AFK. Trouble was we were in the middle of quickly trying to repair a car we had come across and so I couldn't really afford him coming back to his keyboard, seeing us around him, panicking and opening fire. By the time we had got back to that spot someone would probably have had the car away. So I shot him. I felt bad about it but needs must...

If you leave a town by a main road there is usually a white sign with a red line through it. That is the name of the town you're leaving (there'll be an equivalent sign on the other side of the road, facing the other way, sans the red line). That and an online map is what I used to navigate with when I first started playing.

Been playing a few weeks now on both high pop and low pop servers and have yet to see any form of hacker/hacking at all *touch wood* so it can't be that prevalent.

I thought this but we recently accidentally over-filled a tent and we found the stuff that had "disappeared" on the ground about 10 feet away.

First ever meeting was all a bit confusing. I'd found a CZ and was trapped in a barn busy firing at anything that moved. I was getting swamped and so in a panic launched myself off the ledge breaking my legs. That's when the guy came running in shouting "Don't shoot". He then proceeded to repeatedly ask if I needed help/bandages. Trouble was I didn't really know what I needed or how to communicate with him. I died moments later. 2nd one was more of a proper introduction to DayZ. Was looting a supermarket when a guy ran in the front carrying only a revolver. He was being chased by a fair few Zeds so I called out "Friendly" and opened up on the zeds with my Kobra'd AK to help him out. Once they were down I told him to go ahead and take his pick of the loot piles as I was okay for the moment. Which he did. I then went to look what he had left. The second I knelt to loot something he put 2 .45 ACP rounds in the back of my head. I was astonished. Then outraged. Then amused. Welcome to DayZ!
