    Name that player type

    When trying to play "bandit" I tend to: -Steal as many valuables I can (food, antibiotics, morphine) from camps hoping they dont notice the theft and without destroying the camp (After all, killing a cow after getting the milk is quite counterproductive) -Travel with small vehicles and generally with only a few good weapons. -If i maintain a camp, generally its only a tent. -Killing another towelheads on sight (well, they are criminals after all) -Avoid player contact, if they dont see me and i'm at an advantageus position a few warning shots should be enough. If they are well armed, just try to kill them. better safe than sorry, I guess. Basically, i like to play thief, since i never go to cities. I enjoy playing lone survivor, not psychopathic sniper.

    Still, they are useful because provide accurate visual clue about when the rifle is ready to shoot another round -I always find quite awkward having to wait x amount of time to fire another round with the m24 while the bullet magically loads itself, for example. I think that small details like that will add a lot to the experience and feeling. (talking bout standalone, ofc)

    If they add proper animations/sounds (reloading, bolt handle) to the bolt action rifles, i'll be the happiest gentleman of them all. (Resident evil 4 had one of the most awesome animations for that kind of weapon i've ever seen)

    Part of the problem is the extremely high amount of ammunition that allows you to waste antimaterial bullets on players. Imagine you only have 10 bullets for that .50 rifle and must save them carefully in case you see that chopper moving to your position. Since Dayz doesnt have highly armored vehicles, common sniper rifles should be enough to take down wheels and crew. Killing gunners make choppers run away fast, and you dont need a .50 cal for that. I prefer standard non auto snipers, because each shot counts and it adds to the experience, IMHO. PD: Ofc I use every m107 and As50 i can find, because pwning chops and trucks with that is piss easy, but there are many other options.

    L85 Should it stay or go

    Things like the L85 lack proper countermeasures, like short life batteries, for example. I disagree with removal being the "easy way", though. I think its the only way in the current state of the mod. Thermal can return to the mod once appropiate mechanics are implemented -batteries, variation of heath signature depending of various factors, like rain- I can understand people being passionate about their preferences, but we all should remember that the mod evolves (slowly, but it does) and there's nothing written on stone.

    Well,you can ambush the revolver player quite easily if you spot him from afar with the thermal and kill him with another thing, is what i used to do when i had the L85 at hand.
  7. Maybe United Nations equipment would make more sense than USMC gear.

    Punishment on death suggestion

    Bad thing about this kind of punishment is that trolls can shoot fresh spawns (example) in the legs so they are forced to suicide and suffer a harder punishment or leave the server. People will always exploit this kind of mechanics to piss off other players.

    I think that is an interesting idea. Low caliber body shots - chance to impact the backpack, vest or belt and destroy fragile items such as blood bags, cans, magazines and so on. High caliber body shots - higher chance to destroy fragile items and a chance to render useles or severely damage items such as weapons, scopes or attachments. Low and high caliber headshots - To be honest, I doubt a NVG device can take a bullet and still working properly, even a makarov shot can disable them (i think) . A .50 shot in the head should just obliterate any device you were using. Explosions - I guess it depends on the explosion strength, but a car blowing up, satchel charges or a close grenade can damage or destroy (at least scatter over the place) some of your gear. (satchels specially should send flying both the victim and the gear into the moon to never been seen again) Shooting people with high powered ammunition should be a risk if what you want is their gear. Beans.
