Fort Alpha - Survivor Fortification in Cherno DE109
perestain posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Current Status: After nobody came for another hour, we've now left the camp to return later, probably during daytime when more people are online. Hopefully people will have less connection issues with the server then, too. Until we come back we encourage others to take our place, the fences are still in place, and the tent for trading is still pitched. Keep it friendly! Thanks to all of you who tried to come but couldn't make it due to technical issues. Hi, we're trying to set up a survivor fortification on DE109 for CO-OP play to help and support friendly survivors and defend against attacks. Location is a warehouse near Cherno directly between 068126 and 069126. (see attached image) We've so far set up a wire perimeter around the Warehouse and put a tent in it. There is currently one entrance to the site on the SW side and one small entrance to the warehouse itself, also on the SW side. We are currently too few to run the place 24h, but we plan to be there during the next few hours. Its currently nighttime on DE109, which is not a problem for us but maybe for you, so we put chemlists in front of the entrances. If you want to support our efforts or look for shelter: 1. Approach the site and contact us over direct chat in english or german language, 2. Do not approach us with a primary weapon other than a hatchet in hands. 3. If you do not follow 1. and 2. you will be shot at. We are well armed but obviously cannot fully guarantee to protect you atm, we will try our best though to help you out. What we currently need: - Support from survivors who are interested in CO-OP gameplay and can provide supplies and defense, tents. - possibly someone who can provide a teamspeak server for the fort - flares would be nice to light up the front door so other survivors can see it, we only brought chemlights. This experiment was inspired by Fort Friendly on UK7 last night, with the main intention to have a good time, so lets see how this plays out... cheers... update: So far no encounters. We gathered some blood packs and basic equipment to help people out with. We could use some food. -

I will never be a bandit. Survivor nice-guy stories
perestain replied to IroquoisPliskin (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is a difference between real life and videogame worlds. Don't mix those up, ever. DayZ is a deathmatch game by its game mechanics and its reward system, so as a consequence people play deathmatch. It's as simple as that. Freaks and murderers run around and kill people. Gamers sit on their ass and play videogames. Two very different things. -
PvP kills: what % would you do for real?
perestain replied to Stukov's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This topic is absolutely awkward. People sitting on their ass playing videogames voting about how badass they would probably be in RL, seriously? -
20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
perestain replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thats simply not true. I had at least 60% friendly encounters when bandit skins were enabled. Since they were disabled, 0%. I agree though that super low humanity detection will not help with the average encounter. -

NO We rather need a way to recognize that another player has chosen not to be a bandit. to initiate non-deathmatch-gameplay. ---- => to ease the trigger-finger of those who would actually like to play coop but cannot afford to do it atm because everyone looks identical. -
My 5 Cars proof (and motorcycle and tents)

If vehicle locations are stored on the computer on which the server is running then the admin has perfect access to this information. -
For God's sake, SAY SOMETHING!

You try to TALK in a deatchmatch game? You're supposed to shoot people, not talk to them. At least thats what the game mechanics force upon you if you care about security and aquiring weapons and equipment. Don't expect people to talk back. They won't. If I hear you talk, I'll try to kill you ASAP if I have a weapon. Uh, and don't listen to all those apologetics claiming how this was "realistic or natural behaviour" in an apocalypse. This is baseless conjecture people pull out of their asses to have an excuse for shooting other people. The real answer is much more simple: Its a videogame that heavily rewards shooting other people in early game and doesnt have any content besides pvp in lategame. Thats why people run around and shoot everybody. Not because it is "realistic" or believable, which it isn't at all btw. The whole idea of explaining gameplay behaviour resulting from ingame constraints with fictional real-life situations is pretty flawed, tbh. -
So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
perestain replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is a deathmatch game. The game mechanics simply punish you for not using every opportunity to kill another player . It has been like that ever since bandit skins were removed. As a consequence, there is no natural CO-OP now, you need friends from outside of the game for that. This kills immersion, but the game is still lots of fun. -
Does that mean if I wait I'll be reset to my old character status (items + location) ? Tbh, I wouldnt mind continuing my fresh char now, I like the early game, but whatever happens, I am happy to play anyways. GJ man.
-
Same here. I wonder if anyone already knows if cars and tents are still in place? I don't want to walk all the way if they got wiped anyways...

So after the lastest beta patch didn't work I rolled back to 94876. Could connect on first try, I spawned at the coast with starting equipment :S I seem to not have died officially though, there was no gender choice.. Too bad, since I was originally north of NEA and wanted to do stuff there, but oh well I can connect at least .... I'm impressed at the rate at which updates are released in this alpha-test. Cool stuff.
-
latest beta patch is not working, can not connect to any server. Even the ones with the latest beta version running. Most servers tell me they're full, even if they are clearly not. If I get past that (every 20th try), it stops at "waiting for host"
-
Nope. Its an objective and unemotional description of the game mechanics. Talking about your personal roleplaying fantasy where you "adapt to some harsh world" is making you look stupid as it suggests you're having trouble to differentiate between real life and the game world.

Exactly.

No competent player should die
perestain replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Its not a strict military game and its sandbox. So, as you said, people are free to do whatever they want. Also, I think its believable that normal people don't necessarily follow military tactical rules in that situation. In the end its all a matter of patience, and not a matter of skill. I don't think there is much skill beyond common sense in this game. Some decision making maybe, but the best decisions in this game are usually the most boring, so you cannot call people unskilled if they take unneccessary risks. They want to have fun, its a zombie videogame after all. -

So when is PvP ok in your opinion? If I were to befriend some people, then kill them, would that be any better? What about killing people for loot, is that ok? I just killed some guy for food, not fun. What's the difference? He's still dead and probably spawning in kamenka. Or is it just never ok because you don't like dying? Right now I'm playing as a maniac on a hill with a rifle. Next time I die I may choose to play as a city raiding survivor. You need to seperate between ingame and reallife, badly. In real life, modifying the game so it is not deathmatch would yield a more exciting and believable ingame experience. People want it to be a challenge to figure out if they can cooperate with other players or not. Or if they can safely kill other players characters for loot or not. All this, is completely unrelated to "having skill" or "dieing too often in the game". The game is a casual sandbox atmospheric game, there is no actual skill to be had, except whatever you make up in your own head to feel good in your roleplaying world. There is not even a way to measure success, there is no winning condition and everybody has his own goals, if any, when he fools around with the game. -

Challenge. People are actually trying not to die. Dayz is not challenging in a pvp sense, its not even a competitive game. Its the only game I can enjoy playing with casual RL friends, who dont want put in the time for training. There is not much skill in this game, you live forever if you're patient enough, and if you wanna have fun instead you play risky and get exciting scenarios. I guess you must suck hard at competitive fps if you come to a casual atmospheric game like dayz, abuse some camping spot to shoot at newbees and start talking about skill. Don't mix up your fantasy roleplaying world with the real world, dude. DayZ is obviously challenging enough for there to be this much crying on the forums about PvP deaths. And I'm not abusing anything, you expect me to come get into hand to hand combat with the AK wielding masses of elektro with a sniper rifle? It'd be an interesting challenge at least. Also I'd have more fun trying this than spending an afternoon prone ontop of some building. But thats the beauty of DayZ, there are no objectives or winning conditions, you can try out whatever you like. You do realize that having fun is the true objective of the game? Surviving is clearly not, because you can survive forever in the northern woods on hunting gear and one can of water. Still people just choose not to do it because it is dead boring and they rather want to have fun. Also, I don't see people cry about PvP, but rather about automatic and mindless deathmath, which completely removed guessing, trust, betrayal, backstabs etc from player interaction. The game used to be good because of the grey zone between PvP and PvE. You had to guess. You don't have to anymore, and thats damn boring, and has nothing to do with skill or challenge. If at all it is less challenging and requires less skill. -

Bear traps are simply idiotic. they add no depth to gameplay whatsoever, and just serve as a griefing tool, i.e, no-skill, no-consequence gameplay ruining. Its not even like the people griefing will be able to see their "work" and have any interaction initiated. IN 99% of the cases they'll not even be on the server. It makes about as much sense as introducing a tool which floods the ip of a random player.

Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
perestain replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This thread is a prime example of people obviosly having problem distinguishing between video game world and real life. There is only one solid evidence, and that is reality. And in reality, people socialize if there are enough ressources for everyone. That fact is not disputable, otherwise our species would have died out long ago. In DayZ however, people do not socialize, although there is an abundance of ressources. Therfore it can be concluded that KOS is not a believable or "realistic" behaviour pattern for an environment like dayz. In reality, people would try to stay alive, and in dayz you can stay alive forever if you want. Just go north with hunting gear and a can of water and you'll never die. Because DayZ is a videogame, people get bored from surviving and start shooting each other. And have fun at that. And then feel guilty for it. And then start apologetic threads like these, because they fail to distinguish between video game and reality. Accept that its simply fun to kill people in dayz. It doesnt mean that youre a potential mass murderer. There is no need to spread misinformation how it was "realistic" like in this thread and use inappropriate history examples and make up all that crap trying to justify your gameplay behaviour. Its ok how it is. Deal with it. This is just a videogame. -
I KNOW you're an exploiter if you disagree
perestain replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yea sure, if it was that simple it would have been implemented already though. There was even an attempt at a 5 second logout timer which didnt seem to work correctly. I think an intermediate solution might be to simply kill players that log out and are bleeding or unconcious. It might not solve all the D/C problems, but a good part of it, and it is easy to do technically. In the end, d/c ing to avoid death is not nearly the biggest exploit which needs fixing though. Its effects are negligible compared to server hopping to farm loot and for tactical repositioning.
