  1. Hi guys. This is my personal opinion about base building in DayZ standalone. It has a few do's and don'ts, along with a few other comments about the idea. Please remember that this is my own personal opinion. If you do not agree with it, please be polite about it. First things first, why add base building? It would become a cool new aspect of the game that I think would be really fun. You could board up houses to store items, etc. If you area bandit, you could find a house and break into it. It would become something quite fun. However, theres a few things that are mostly involved with realism that shouldn't be implimented. Here are the Do's and Don'ts. Do add base building (incase you didn't know) Do allow the boarding up of enterable houses Do allow people to make fences and wooden planks to board up items from tree logs Do add more items into the games such as locks, candles, individual hammers, and nails (i know nails are already in the game) Do allow as many building materials as possible, as long as they are realistic and you could probably find them in real life. Do add stuff such as spray paint that will allow people to customize and identify there houses (or just draw a penis) Don't make base building completely unrealistic (you could board up some walls and repair a fence, but you won't be able to build an actual house during an apocalypse unless you really have a lot of spare time and you've built houses in the past. Building a tiny little shed could be an exception, though it would be almost as small as a tent) Don't make getting materials too easy (You can't punch down a tree with your bare fist) Don't get carried away with crafting (This isn't minecraft, and unfortunately in real life, at least not currently, you can't make enchantment tables to give your guns godly powers) Basically, keep it realistically; DayZ is know for being realistic (Before the SoS trend came). If your not quite sure if you want to add something, just think, could I do that in real life? You can board up a door in real life. Thats is a yes. You can't punch down 5 trees with your bare hands and use those logs to make a house, chests, and a shovel to dig a hole later to be used as a toilet(though if I could...). A couple other things to think about: Will these boarded up houses transfer over on different servers? Could people affect the actual map houses by destroying part of the wall with a hatchet lets say? Will these boarded houses stay forever or disappear(like vehicles)? If so, how long? Thanks for reading, Carbine781
  2. I'm a long time fan of DayZ. Used to play the mod religiously back in the day, and I bought the DayZ game preview today when it came out and I had a "classic" DayZ experience I wanted to share. I also want to talk about a concern I had regarding this, however. I was exploring the Lumbermill area near Berezino, having recently spawned nearby. I saw three players in a field, and ran over to say hi. Currently, everybody on Xbox that I've run into has been relatively friendly. That being said, one guy started trying to punch me, but was interrupted when his friend got on the mic and said "Cole stop it, sorry for my friend". We talked for a bit and decided to go on an adventure and find better gear. This was there first time every playing the game. I remembered that the NE airfield was nearby and suggested we go there. One of the guys was on that online DayZ map and decided it was a good idea, and he sort of led the way. We headed north, but we didn't just pick a direction and run through the woods. We followed roads, and looked at road signs and buildings to figure out where we were. We got ontop of a hill where we could look around, and I saw Black Mountain in the distance and realized where we were, and led the way from there. It was truly refreshing to just meet strangers and go on an adventure with them. It was also entertaining trying to find food and water. We treated every water pump we could find like a place of worship and for some reason, they only had "human meat", but hey, times are desperate in the apocalypse. My only concern about this is that I believe that interactions like this will become less and less rare, and be almost non existent in 6 months from now, cause zombies aren't really a threat and people will realize that they don't need other people to survive. Gotta enjoy these experiences while you can I guess.
  3. Haven't run into vehicles often, but I noticed the 'save vehicle' feature has been removed. Last time I ran into a vehicle, I hid it pretty well, came back a day later, and saw it was gone. I don't think somebody stole it, but that i didn't save it correctly, so my question is how do you save vehicles now in DayZ vanilla?
  4. Could somebody tell me if the following mods are still popular / have a couple of servers or not to play them with a good amount of people? DayZ Breaking Point DayZ Namalsk DayZ Origins DayZ Fallujah DayZ Panthera DayZ Lingor DayZ 2017 Thank You
  5. carbine781 (DayZ)

Are these mod types still popular at all?

Damn thats a shame. A lot of these I used to play, and want to play again. Thank you for the info.

    Blood Transfusion Help

I have a bit of trouble w/ blood transfusions. Every time I attempt to do one, an error message pops up saying that the blood bag cant be found. How do i do blood transfusions in the latest version of the DayZ mod?
  7. Ideas and real life factors that could make DayZ both much more realistic and intense (TL;DR SUMMARY AT THE BOTTOM) Ok here are a few ideas that I had to make DayZ a little more realistic. First, we will start out with the following picture that was posted on the old DayZ mod website: Notice something strange about this picture? Probably the strange thing is that this has most likely never been seen in DayZ before; a giant zombie horde roaming throughout Chernogorsk in the late night. Mostly the giant zombie horde part. Most zombie hordes are created when some idiot fires their weapon in a big city. Even then, the hordes don't become this big. I do believe that DayZ should naturally create giant hordes in these giant cities. Maybe even a horde on the country side between you and that one airfield your heading to: In the end of the day, I've had some great encounters with players, but I haven't had any real memories of zombies. I wish I had a memory of sneaking around a zombie horde with my friend to loot a city, only to be caught and to have to run and gun our way out. Unfortunately, unless they are glitching through walls, zombies really aren't much of a threat. Completely contradicting what I just said, a problem with zombies currently is also that they are just too powerful... which is weird for me to say. They take forever to kill sometimes, and they make you bleed almost instantly. I think that they should increase the quantity of zombies tremendously, and make them a little 'squishier' (easier to kill). You are probably wondering what my point was just now since i just said they aren't threatening, but they are. Zombies aren't threatening right now because there aren't any around. Maybe a couple tanky ones that you can out run. thats it. If they add giant hordes of zombies, you can't enter a city in general, so they should nerf the zombies and add more of them. Now, the last thing i want to talk about is sound. I did a little bit of research and based on how loud a certain sound is and the landscape it must travel over, sound can travel very far, sometimes for miles. I believe that sound should have a big impact on gameplay. When you fire a shot in real life, it will most likely echo for a few kilometers. I think that sound in DayZ should have the same effect. Here is a little graph on how I believe sound should work (P.S. it would also be cool if birds flew away from loud sound areas): And last but not least, how all of this could affect shooting on sight. 1 gun shot in a big city or large airfield or something like that = Giant 50+ horde after you and any nearbye players. You have to run for your life or unload every single bullet in your inventory (and you still might not get away) 1 gun shot in small city = some zombies, nearbye players and zombies. Not as risky, but not safe either. 1 gun shot in forest / plains = sound travels very far, alerting players within a 3-5ish kms of you and zombies within 1/2-1 km. (and possibly some birds will fly up also indicating an area). Although this may not seem like much, if you are at a crashed helicopter in a very wide field and you fire a shot, nearbye players will most likely discover the helicopter also if they follow the sound; also being in a wide open field and having a bunch of players head over to your position where you have nowhere to hide isn't very safe either, now is it? TL;DR SUMMARY - may look long, takes 1 minute to read. Zombies should not be as tanky, and should be able to be taken down with 1 pristine axe /knife hit. They also shouldn't cause bleeding on a very healthy player instantly (because if you think about it, unless they are Left 4 Dead Tanks, zombies will most likely not grow a bunch of muscles that could act as armor) Giant zombie hordes should spawn. Hordes should mostly spawn in cities, and should be almost unavoidable unless you prone your way through. 1 gunshot shot and the entire 50+ horde is after you. Sound should play a big aspect on gameplay. Sound should disperse over a few kms, and based on how far it travels, affect nearbye players and sounds (diagram above) And that is it for now. Thanks for reading. Carbine781 UPDATED IDEA: If zombies were to be more powerful, I think that they should also flinch/ get knocked back when you shoot or hit them. If you hit them with an axe, they can lose their balance and stumble. If you shoot them, it could slow them for a second and make them flinch. Also, for some reason, i'm a fan of the 'Fast and weak' zombies that are seen in the mod (and movies like 28 days later) then the slow and tanky zombies. Adds more thrill to running away from them in my opinion.
  8. I've been playing DayZ since 2012. I'm looking for some people who wouldn't mind playing a bit on the weekends who have been playing for awhile. Most interested in playing the classic DayZ vanilla mod. People who live in the U.S. preferred (for time zone and server connection reasons)
  9. I usually play on US 434 when I go on DayZ, and i've heard great things about DayZ Europa. I'll be sure to check it out!
  10. First of all, this is just my own opinion, so please do not post rude comments if you disagree with me. Also, I do understand that DayZ Standalone is currently in alpha. This post was mostly just some ideas / cool features that was in the mod, that I want to see in the standalone. I was looking at old videos released in 2012, the year I started playing. This one in particular was made by Rooster Teeth, and was titled This is DayZ. I saw it a couple of months before I started playing the game, and this is one of the many videos that inspired me to install windows on my mac, buy ArmA 2 operation arrowhead, and play DayZ. Heres a link: Here are a few features and ideas in DayZ mod (back in 20120) that caught my attention, mostly because it is so much different from today's ideas / version of DayZ. First, the danger of firing your gun. If you fire your gun, it will attract a lot of zombies, and back then, zombies were a giant threat. It wasn't exactly that they were tanky, but more that there were a lot of them. Theres an old picture from the dayz mod website of a giant horde of zombies roaming a city at night time. There have never been giant hordes that big. I do think that there should be a lot more zombies added. Just roaming around anywhere really... even just down a street. There is a part in the video where Burnie (the guy who is playing) teams up with a random survivor. Both of them are cautiously crouch walking down the street to the next town, as there are zombies everywhere, and if you attract one, then all hell breaks loose. And heres another story(and if you are reading this far, thank you. This is probably when I decided to put a tl;dr in this post). The first day I started playing DayZ, i was teamed up with some friends who knew a lot about the game. They decided to pick me up at a town, and while randomly roaming around, I must of attracted 40 zombies who were all chasing me. This was one of the most fun moments i've ever experienced. They came in their car, saw me, and the next few minutes were "HOLY SH*T, GET IN. I'LL DISTRACT THEM. HOW MANY ARE THERE HOLY CRAP. F*CK THEY ARE GOING TO BUST OUR WHEEL". I sort of feel zombies aren't this dangerous any more, which brings me to point #2! Point 2: Hordes and Zombies I did bring this up in the last post, but this will elaborate a little more on something. Zombies shouldn't be tanky. What i mean is that they shouldn't withstand just 4 axe hits before going down. Just 1 should kill them. However, they should be fast, and hard to run away from. One thing I like about the standalone is the weight of your loot. If you are holding a gun and a lot of loot, you run slower. Zombies should be designed as the following: Slower then you when you barely have any loot, or just a side arm and a small backpack. However, when you have a rifle, and a big backpack, they should be a little faster then you. Therefore, you will either have to sacrifice some loot (and go back for it later), run into a forest and try to lose them, or fire your weapon (which will just attract more zombies, and even more hell will break loose). This adds to the chaos that I love. Point 3: The Mystery DayZ should mostly be mysterious. Mystery, stealth, deception > Guns blazing, hardcore action. Heres what I mean. Theres a point in the video (At 7 minutes, 15 seconds) where Burnie says "Heres what is great. There are little moments of discovery all the time in this game". I feel like these are gone. The mystery and excitement of finding a new town, or an abandoned lighthouse, etc. Unfortunately, there is really no way to just 'expand' the map. Maybe new maps can be made, with new towns, but I do understand that these take a very very very long time to make. As somebody who has been playing DayZ for almost 2 years, I know almost every corner and city in the map. I wish i didn't. I still wish I could explore North and find a small town that I never saw before, and then, explore a little north, and find a small farm with a barn, shed, and a field. And then, travel a little more north, and find a giant city or military area, all of which i had NEVER seen before. Well you get the point, but these moments of mystery are gone from the game. One thing I hated was the trailer of DayZ Standalone(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTezCMqMylE); the way too dramatic music, and don't even mention the ending. I think the trailer should've had no music, or just the ambient noise that you hear if you turn your music volume up in the DayZ mod. It should have been foggy, and just followed the story of a survivor walking through nowhere. It would have been dark and mysterious. You wouldn't know what was in the distance. Maybe it could dramatically end with him turning a corner while looting a town, you see his eye widen (from fear), and then it just cuts to dark. It's just mystery. No overly dramatic music. I hate that stuff. Oh yeah, i just got off topic. Anyway, add back crashed helicopter sites, and maybe some crashed plane sites to keep some 'variety' in the map. Point 4: Items I'll keep this short and brief. There are a lot of items in DayZ, but many of them don't really do much. Give them some nice uses. Add some nice camping gear for survival. Hunting gear, and also, tools for my next point: Point 5: Building a house. First, don't make this like rust, where you can build a wooden mansion. Instead, allow players to board up buildings. That is it. Modify existing buildings, but not make completely new ones from scratch. Items probably needed: wood planks (get from cutting down trees, so therefore, you need an axe too), nails (for boarding up the place), and a hammer (or sledge hammer... if you want to go over the top). One problem with this is that somebody could easily log out, go into a building, and then go back onto another server and break into a boarded up house. A couple of solutions: When you spawn in, you spawn within a radius of where you last spawned. Another is that you can't spawn inside a building, or within lets say 20 meters of a house that has been bordered up. Boarding up a single building will also encourage people to stick to one server, and therefore, forcing them to play at night time, which is a very different DayZ. I think that is it. If you somehow read all of this, thank you very much. TL;DR below this TL;DR (Yes it is a long TL;DR. I'm sorry about that, but should only take 1 min to read) DayZ 2012 > DayZ 2014 Firing your gun should be dangerous, as it attracts a lot of zombies. The bigger the gun, the more dangerous it is. Zombies shouldn't be tanky, but there should be a lot of them who don't have much health (only 1 axe hit will kill them). Also, when you have enough gear, zombies will become faster then you, forcing you to fire your weapon or somehow hide to survive. DayZ should be mysterious. The thrill of finding a new town or someplace you have never seen before is what makes the game so great. Maybe adding some crashed helicopters or planes will help (I also go on a rant about how much i hate the DayZ trailer and why) Gives the new items in dayz some use, and add more camping / survival gear I support the idea of building a base. However, you can't build something from the ground up. You can only board up an already existing building. Some ideas for preventing people from logging into buildings will help too. It also encourages night time play.

    Icons / Debug Monitor

I do think that DayZ could benefit from a well made stat system using icons or the old school debug monitor from the DayZ mod. I think the side icons (temperature, hunger, thirst, etc.) should be added. A few new ones could be how wet you are, dizziness, etc. Also, some may argue this removes the 'realistic factor' from the game. The truth is, in real life, you always know if you are thirsty or hungry, dizzy, cold, etc. (unless you have some weird disease or are really out of it [maybe this could be a part of dayz too if you want to get really creative]). They will simply be a nicer looking version of the blocks of text that display in your inventory. Plus, it helps bring back that old school nostalgic DayZ feel from 2012.

    Milking cows to get... milk

This could actually work if thought out... You'd probably have to tame the cow a bit first though (give it a carrot or 2, scratch it's back, i don't know)
  13. carbine781 (DayZ)

    The DayZ Shop

Coming from somebody who supports making DayZ as realistic as possible, I do not think this would be a good idea. DayZ is about the struggle for survival in a harsh scenario (this case, theres some zombies that want to eat you for lunch). Adding this will allow people to get gear without much effort. There are some servers which have shops (Ex: epoch). They'll probably be made in the DayZ standalone as private hive servers. I don't think the devs should make this part of the main hive.
  14. Small leedle bump so more people can see the topic and give their thoughts.

    Clothing Ideas

Lmao i remember this skit. Dear Devs, Please don't add mannequins to the game Best Regards, Carbine That being said, Jordan Peele = good survivor
  16. carbine781 (DayZ)

    Clothing Ideas

I mostly meant stuff like this: http://cinema.theiapolis.com/movie-03GR/mad-max-2/gallery/mad-max-2-1088846.html If i see a bunch of shirtless buff guys, with chains around them, running around with leather pants, i'd probably just be like *disconnected by user*

    FRIEND/FOE IDENTIFCATION

  18. carbine781 (DayZ)

    FRIEND/FOE IDENTIFCATION

In real life, you could easily identify somebody's face, especially if you know them. If all of my friends (in real life) wore the same orange shirt, blue jeans, baseball hat, and sneakers, I would be able to recognize all of them with ease, as I remember their facial features. A system for facial recognition could be as follows: You add your friends to a list of people. Of course, the other person would have to accept being added to the list (so you can't just add everybody on the server). Perhaps, this list will just be in the main menu, so it is universal between all hive servers. When you see their face (not even the back of their head, but specifically their face), there name will show up above their head. Like i said, if you see the back of their head, you won't be able to tell, as you won't see their actual facial features. If your friend is wearing something that obscures their face (example: a helmet, bandanna, or mask), the facial recognition system will be disabled, and then, your friend's name will no longer show up above their head (unless they take off whatever is on their face).
  19. carbine781 (DayZ)

    Clothing Ideas

I definitely support the ideas of the bandit / hero like clothing. I hope the devs don't add a bunch of leather clothes as seen in mad max.
  20. carbine781 (DayZ)

    COCAINE, NARCOTICS, BEER AND SMOKES

I don't think that the addition of drugs would be a major benefit to the games, so I'm not a fan of the idea.
  21. I do understand that the standalone is at an alpha state. Although I am addressing problems, that doesn't mean that I don't think they will be fixed in the future. If anything, this post was mostly just a list of ideas that I would like to see in the standalone when it is completed.
  22. Yeah, my Tl;Dr was pretty long XD I had a lot to explain though. I agree with the fact that DayZ really hasn't reached its full potential, and at this rate, it will take a very long time. It has a lot, and it could be very great, but Bohemia Interactive isn't putting as much effort into it as lets say Arma 3 (atleast I don't think...). If they don't make DayZ one of their top priorities, then some other game will pass DayZ by, and I don't want to see that. Have some beans. I hope the devs see this post or one of my others. I don't know if they have, but I think it could help. I do know that they read these frequently, which is quite nice.
