DayZ Standalone Review - Is it worth getting?
carbine781 (DayZ) replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I stated in the review ""Note: This review is based on my personal experience with the game. Also, the review is based on the stage the alpha was in when i wrote this (less then 48 hours after release). I know the game is a pre-alpha and that the game has many bugs in it (Rocket even warned us), i'm just reviewing the game in it's current state to let you know if it is worth getting now, etc." I can understand why you may not like the review. I just wrote it to let people who have not bought the game yet what to expect. I also hoped that this could help bring awareness to some bugs, which I have submitted in the bug report part. -

I may rewrite this after they fix a few bugs. -

With full resolution and most of my other settings on normal/low/very low, I averaged about 30 fps in most places, but in big cities, especially the city just north of cherno, i was around 15-25 fps. What was weird is when i lowered my resolution, it didn't help too much. Nvidia Geforce GT 650m (1gb vram) and Intel HD Graphics 4000 (i'm not sure if both run at the same time tnough), 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 iGB Ram

Effects of dehydration and starvation (instead of just randomly dropping unconscious)
carbine781 (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
I was thinking that instead of just randomly dropping unconscious suddenly due to not drinking and not eating, certain effects could take place too. Ex: Blurriness, colors become less vibrant, etc. That is all :P P.S. I couldn't find a DayZ Standalone suggestions part of the forum so if I'm in the wrong section, i'm sorry. -
My mouse is glitching. It moves, but the actual icon doesn't unless i click. Then it will update to whatever position it is at now.

Top 7 Reasons to be excited for DayZ.
carbine781 (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Before you comment "It's over 1 year late", "The game has so many bugs", or some other unnecessary comment of hate, please read this. Now, let me be honest with you. When DayZ was taking what seemed to be forever to come out, i was losing a lot of interest. However, after seeing a couple of the streams and some other videos about the game, I must admit, the game is coming along really nicely. It makes the long wait seem necessary (Without the long wait, The DayZ team wouldn't of had enough time to implement all of these cool features into the standalone game) So anyway, here are the top 7 reasons to be excited for DayZ. 7. New Sound In one of the latest streams, Dean Hall announced that somebody from Bohemia Interactive will help create new sounds for the standalone. Many people have been complaining about the old sounds, so now, you guys can shut up :P 6. Clothes Yay, clothes! Now, there is a large variety of clothes, backpacks, and more. There are also helmets, too. Some clothes, such as bullet proof vests, have certain helpful traits. Other clothes just give you a unique look. These clothes will make you look pretty, and could help you survive in the wilderness too. 5. Better Zombies Zombies have been completely reworked. They no longer zigzag, they can now run indoors, and more. They also can give various diseases, making them a constant threat. This should encourage players to team up, and this just makes the game harder and scarier. 4. Better Inventory The inventory system is a lot cleaner and easier to use. You can easily drag and drop things on. No more confusing arrows! 3. Better Hunting Hunting is becoming a much bigger part of the game. New animals, such as dear and birds, will be added to the game for people to hunt. They even added rats... yummy. 2. Better Items Items are now more dynamic. What do I mean? First, items can get damaged from bullets, etc. If you shoot somebody on sight, you may shoot a pocket or there backpack containing there gear, and you may damage some of the items inside. A great example is the damaged acog scope. 1. Better Map The map may be the most exciting part of the standalone. First of all, it's a lot bigger. Also, 95% of the buildings are now enterable. Many places have been expanded. Chernogorsk is now 3x bigger then it used to be. Holy Crap. ( and don't forget, most of the buildings there are now enterable too). In some of the streams, they showed off big apartments, which were enterable and had many rooms to loot. There is also a swamp, Utes island is floating around nearbye, and the NE airfield has had an upgrade too. Thats all I know of, but i'm sure there are a lot more changes for us to find. So thats basically it. If there are bugs in the alpha (which there most likely will be), remember, it's an alpha. The game hsa improved a lot from the mod, and i think it will be a success. Thanks for reading, Carbine781 -

Rocket ran into some trouble in the last stream. RIP Rocket. I got to admit, the game looks really good guys. These last few streams have gotten me really excited. Even this small clip looked like you guys were having a fun time. Keep it up dev team. DayZ is looking really great :). Personally, it was waiting time was completely worth it.- 46 replies

Quick Tips For Starter (Submit a tip if you have one)
carbine781 (DayZ) posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Hi guys. This is just something I decided to make for any new players in DayZ. These are just some quick tips. Here are a few I came up with. Come up with some in the comments below. I will post any that I really like here (and give you credit). Tip: Stock up on food as early as possible. Therefore, you do not need to risk your life going back into busy towns to find food. Tip: If you are being chased by zombies, try to outrun them. Firing your weapon will only attract more. If you have a melee weapon, use that. Tip: Try to zig zag in and out of trees and run through forests if you have zombies chasing you. If they lose sight of you for a few seconds, you have escaped successfully. Tip: Don't use sprint (double tap W) when walking long distances. Just hold down W to lightly jog. Sprinting will tire you out after awhile, and you will end up walking slower than you would if you just kept jogging. *Note: This tip is assuming you are using the default key binds* Get a hatchet (or machete) asap. DemonGroover Practice the basic controls in Arma first if you've never played before =) Fraggle People are dicks. Don't trust people unless you know they won't shoot you (Even then, don't fully trust a stranger). Rossums -
How Bandit Skins Could Become Useful and Your Identity
carbine781 (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So basically, this post is about why bandit skins could become useful for bandits. This also has to do with a player's identity. Identity So for each player, I think it could become useful if you could customize your facial appearance... as long as it's not too over the top (Don't make this look like Saints Row or APB Reloaded). Customization should include: Hair Color Or Style (nothing to ridiculous)Facial HairSize Of Features (Nose, Ears, etc.)Eye ColorAgeHeight (No Midgets or 7 Ft Tall People Though)Skin ColorNow as some people may know, I'm not a big fan of crazy style. I'd rather have a DayZ survivor look more like they do now then they do in WarZ. Anyway, while character customization shouldn't be too over the top, it should give each survivor a unique identity that could make them recognizable. Bandit Masks So bandits currently have a mask that covers there identity. At the moment, it's default w/ all bandits, and every player looks the same. However, if every player looked different, this could protect the identity of somebody. If it is known that a bandit with brown hair and a small beard is running throughout the server, with a bandit mask on, you couldn't figure out if the person wearing the mask is the wanted bandit. Therefore, for bandits, they could be a valuable item to try to find. Thats basically all i have to say for now. Please leave some extra beans if you liked the post. Thank You For Reading. -

carbine781 (DayZ) replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
While Zombies are dangerous, most of the time, it's other players that get you killed. Be careful around other players. Keep In Mind the various skins for different players. Your Average Survivor - You can't trust them, but they may be friendly. Bandits - People you can almost never trust. Players have to have low humanity (to get this, you must do very bad things) in order to get this skin. Heros - People you can trust more. They have helped out other survivors. -

Keep any water bottles that you find, even if they are empty. You can refill them later. Just make sure the water is sterile by boiling it ;) -

Some servers allow you to see yourself on a map. Take advantage of this feature. -
I was thinking that instead of 3 crashed helicopters spawning when a server restarts, they come in overtime. Additionally, you may also see them crash. Ex: you are walking in the middle of a field, and above, you see it going down. You see it disappear over a tree line on the horizon, and you hear a crash. Then, smoke appears over the horizon, and you know it is nearby. I think this could have potential. I'm not 100% sure yet, but tell me what you think.

Very basic questions from someone both new to arma2 and dayz
carbine781 (DayZ) replied to Þolveremorta's topic in New Player Discussion
1. You can use either arma 2 combined operations or you can do a combination of Arma 2 Free and Arma 2 operation arrowhead. Note: DayZ Standalone has appeared on the DayZ database, and it will be out very soon! If i were you, I would wait! http://www.joystiq.com/2013/10/23/dayz-standalone-in-steam-database-hall-says-progress-very-good/ 2. I recommend DayZ commander. It's simple to use, and it is very easy to install all versions of the DayZ mod using it. You can also update your arma 2 versions. Additionally, you can find servers easily and add certain ones to a favorites list. It's great. 3. There are roleplaying servers. -
Something that has bothered me about water bottles (if this counts as food) is that you can only drink out of them once and then they are empty. When you take a sip or 2 out of a full water bottle, you still have a lot left over. I hope they implement something like this into DayZ Standalone.

Will Dayz standalone come to Mac
carbine781 (DayZ) replied to DayzOfUs's topic in New Player Discussion
I have a mac that can run DayZ Standalone. I Use bootcamp to run windows so I can run DayZ. It's unfortunate that it isn't out for mac. However, on my old mac computer, i got low fps on very low settings. ON my new mac computer, i can run arma 2 oa on high-very high settings. I may adjust though. However, my graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce GT 650M. I think thats the highest one available on a mac laptop. Basically, the other mac laptops may not have the best software to run it. I mean, give it a try, you never know. -
How customizable should clothing/character customization be?
carbine781 (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hi guys. Here are a few opinions about the new feature of clothing. First, heres one of Dean Hall's dev blogs featuring it: http://www.youtube.c...?v=W8xcv51C2ug. Do i like the idea of having various clothing? Yes, I do. I am into it quite a bit. That being said, there are a few things in the video that I don't like. REMEMBER THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION! First off, the fact that you can be in your underwear. I don't know why, but i'm not a huge fan of that. You'd never come to a zombie infested island with a white shirt and boxers on. At least start out with maybe a pair of jeans. As for girls, don't let them take their clothes off too much either. Running through cherno naked with chemlights = new biggest thing if they keep this in probably. Also, too many helmets/hats = bad. In WarZ, people started killing other people because they had a hat they wanted, and i don't want that to start. Also, if there is too many hats, this will turn into team fortress 2, where people want to collect hats. Also, im not sure if they are implementing this, but make certain clothes help out with temperature. Example: Warm clothes help out in night, while they make you more thirsty (sweaty) during the day (if its hot out). Here are some clothing types that i DO support (Assuming the shirt designs don't have ridiculous logos on them: Jeans Tshirts (Various types and styles, plain, checkered, etc.) Long Sleeved shirts Vests (like the current survivors have on) Hats (not helmets) Sweaters and Coats Shorts Other forms of pants Military clothing (ghillie suits, etc. Keep those in, but make the clothing package unique) Clothes that I do not like: Helmets Underwear Ridiculous costumes Masks (im fine with bandanas like what bandits have on, but don't add hockey masks, clown masks, etc.) Weird Hair (This isn't a clothe, i know, but i don't want to see some random mohawk bicycle gang. This isn't mad max XD) Here is what i think a survivor should look like: http://i47.tinypic.com/2ikulmt.jpg Heres 2 pictures of what i don't think characters should look like (Heres some super buff guy: http://i1.ytimg.com/...o/hqdefault.jpg) Heres a guy with a hockey mask on (I hate this): http://www.mmogames....creenshot-3.png Finally, my opinion on character customization: Faces and gender only. Nothing else. Keep it simple. Don't add the ability to make your character fat, skinny, super tall, or a shrimp. You can also edit gender, but thats about it. As for hair color, don't give the ability to die your hair pink or something stupid. Please. As a little summary, keep character customization / clothing simple. Make it so you can identify your friends from other people, but don't make it way too customizable and crazy. Make people look normal! Thats it. Hope you agree. If you don't, tell me what you don't agree with. Leave your opinion about this down below!. -

A A List Of Buildings That Would Be Fun To See In Chernarus
carbine781 (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The mapmakers of DayZ have gone through a lot lately to make the maps of DayZ and Arma 3 Spectacular, from it being getting arrested for over 4 months to taking a trip to the actual Chernarus to model their map after it. Some of their milestones so far include making ~90% of the buildings enterable, expanding the map quite a bit, and expanding and adding to towns and suburbs. That being said, there are still a few buildings that I personally believe they should include. If you come up with one, i'll post it here. Be sure to describe it a little too. 1. A Supermarket I'm not talking about the little markets we have now, but an actual supermarket. There would be the main area, a storage area, and you could even get to the roof of it. This building would become a high traffic area, as it would supply food, water, medical supplies (such as bandages, not morphine), and maybe even guns(some stores sell guns). 2. A Car dealership Why a car dealership? Well, cars are valuable, and the possibility of finding a car here would be somewhat good, making it a high traffic area. Some people just want to make a hit and run, some people would like to hold up in it and stop intruders from stealing any cars. Either way, this would become a great building to put into towns like Berezino. 3. A Police Station This would become the main area to find weapons in a town like Elektro. Personally, a firestation shouldn't have that many guns in it. The police station will also be the home of hand cuffs and tasers. 4. A Bigger Office Building If you think about it, the current size of the office building is extremely small. I'm not saying make a huge one, but maybe a little bigger. It would be fun to travel up a few flights of escalators to get to the roof of the building, where you have an amazing view of the town below. 5. A Bigger Hospital The hospital that you currently find is small as heck. They should make that a little bigger, and add multiple levels for you to find different supplies 6. A post office. The post office would be home to letters/paper (to make a diary perhaps) and also to a pharmacy, which would be a small area to find medical supplies if you don't want to go exploring the big hospital I listed above. 7. A Mall Imagine a mall that is full of different stores and supplies. Imagine it having big department stores. Maybe it could be a place where bandits are holding somebody captive. Maybe not. If you have played Left 4 Dead 2, you are probably thinking of dead center (the final half of the campaign mission). Now, imagine with not as many zombies, and it being a giant loot area. Personally, that sounds awesome. That's all I could think of. Try coming up with something, and I'll add it to the list. -
Character's Traits Improve As They Get Older
carbine781 (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A small thought i was thinking about is that every player, from one being 1 hour to 1 week old isn't much different from each other. Example: They all run the same speed. So i thought, what if the character's begin to adapt more to the zombie apocalypse as time goes by? Why Do This? First, it rewards a player for staying alive, after all, the game is about survival (or at least it was until people began to shoot on sight). Also, it encourages people to think smarter (maybe going into this town isn't a smart idea...) and want to survive, as they wouldn't want to lose there character. As you get older, a player can: Adapt to the environment (such as the temperature) better. Can sneak around faster and much more silentlyCan see in the dark better / better eyesight in generalHas more stamina (won't get as tired so easily)Sprint and Jog fasterWon't run as slow when carrying a lot of items. Can climb / run up hills fasterWon't limp around as slowly w/ a broken leg (begins to develop if he/she has gotten her leg broken a lot)Has a better aim w/ weapons (won't shake around as much when aiming, etc.)Better immune system (less likely to catch an infection or cold)And some more useful traits... (think of some in the comments and I will add them to the list w/ your name as credit)Please tell me if you like this idea and maybe some suggestions. Also, please check out some of my other posts. Thanks for reading, Carbine781. P.S. The character begins to improve assuming the player keeps his character fed, etc.
