Item slot useage/New Special Items and HUD
sappo569 replied to dekciW's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm not sure how hard coded it really is... look at the ACE mod for example. They have done wonderful things with the inventory limits. But as long as we can do away with things like a flashlight taking up a pistol 'slot'.... The players have thigh holsters for a reason! Holster the dang pistol... tuck the flashlight into that fancy pouch on your chest rig. -
Hey guys... Been playing this great mod for about a week now. LONG time Bohemia Interactive follower, from the first days of OFP through Resistance and into ARMA territory. (I am sure some on here were not even born when we had OFP) Anywho, some suggestions I think will ease a lot of the heartache in-game, and coming from a logical (I like to think) point of view. 1) Logical Item Locations Examples include: - Wood piles behind the farmers sheds, where wood is already piled (duh), also have wood drops around the forest areas that have obvious logging taking place. - Supermarket / Grocery store should be LOADED with food and drinks, I'm talking 50 cans of each should not be unheard of... - Houses should have basic survival gear (imagine the owners were killed during the initial attack) see tents, compasses, watches, toolkits, flashlights. I know the drops as stated above exist to some extent, but I would love to see it really gone over with a fine tooth comb. It shouldn't be so much 'luck' involved when I need to find a flashlight, because we all know general stores carry them.. I just need to find the store. And the journey begins! ____________________________________________________________ 2) Foraging Some of you may have noticed the little mushrooms on the forest floor... Perhaps add a new item drop that will be littered around the forest (Forest mushroom) or some such thing. In small doses will add maybe 50 blood ... but could be just the thing to save you in a bad situation. _____________________________________________________________ 3) Hammer + Nails We already have the ability to put in razor wire fencing, and we have wood piles. Why not have Hammer & Nails when used on a door (wood pile in inventory) allow you to barricade a door. The semantics would have to be decided upon of course, duration of usage, and damage required to remove the barricade. Errr... while thinking about this, we already have a tool-box... one would assume this includes basic items such as a hammer / nails. So really it is just the IDEA of being able to board up doors then Thats all for now Feel free to chime in on my suggestions for any improvements

You need to be able to "lose" zombies...
sappo569 replied to kurozael's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There are melee animations... kind of. Anyone who has played the other RPG mods (Chenarus Life, etc) know, the cops can use a melee strike to stun someone. I'm sure it is a very simple implementation to have us use our pistols to strike at the zombies -
I thought bikes were in...? I haven't seen one myself, but I know for a fact that the game has a pedal bike (driven one a few times while being chased by the Ruskies)

Viewdistance is set server side. And in general you don't have to restart the game after you change viewdistance. I think it is a server setting, and has to be enabled. I asked one of the server admins when He was on, and he said he didn't have it turned on since the patch. Hence why people were complaining that they had horrible lag with their view distance set to 10000

All the more reason to have a flashlight handy, or glow stick. As it is now I think a vast majority are just cranking their gamma to max... making little use for the provided items.

Yeah, failing moving the hud into actual events on the player avatar.... Shrink, adjust, options to remove, and perhaps have the option of text instead of icons. Some people will prefer text over icon; Visibility 65% Noise 10% Temperature 87% Blood 9583 Hunger 10% Thirst 0% etc

I would like to see more usage of the physical 'body' we control. Since the head is seperate and can be moved around to look at ourselves... Broken bone? Show it... have the leg sticking out at an awkward angle. Freezing/ Bleeding? Tint the skin blue (might need to make it quite noticable) ... Show blood on the skin from 1st person perspective. Or have it flowing out as it does in 3rd person now

Solve for Player Killers And other Solutions
sappo569 replied to Tigxr's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As seannybgoode said... This game tends to emulate real life, in that I think a lot of the population would de-volve into mindless murdering killing machines (what does that say about society...) Anywho, if someone was out in the wilderness and killing to survive, or even for sport, they would be calm and collected. Probably very methodical, logical, and intelligent. My friend suggested that Rocket is using this mod as a massive social experiment into what would actually happen if we were set upon with a sudden plague... Here we have it! -
Up for discussion of course. I am trying to wrap my head around when this apocolypse actually occured... as in when we spawn is it supposed to be week 1? But yes you're right, things would be pretty well picked clean... I just have an easier time imagining even 20 cans of beans on the shelves as opposed to beans, and flares, and guns, and .... get my drift :)

Should zombies be deadly? Yes. Should zombies run faster than the humans? Perhaps... Should zombies spot you and suddenly move into ultra-sprint with a zig-zagging pattern... faster than any human body is able to change direction? Nope. I have NO problems with pack of zombies, also no problems with them running at a fair clip. However their animation needs to be slowed (or adjusted)

Lighthouses and Flare stacks, and House lighting
sappo569 replied to Shawndo3's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the lighthouses are a good idea. As it is now we KNOW the cities are populated, ruthless bandits and survivors sure... but populated nontheless Certain structures would keep running through an apocolypse regardless. So things like a lighthouse staying on for years afterwards are not out of the impossible realm. I could even see the generating stations and sub-stations being powered still, we do not really have any time-frame in how long the cities have been abandonded do we? -
Item slot useage/New Special Items and HUD
sappo569 replied to dekciW's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I really think we need to do away with the 'x item fits into x slot' mentallity. Would not be at all surprised if Rocket is planning on a weight system in the very near future... Current system is such that; Want to carry A rifle, Pistol, good supply of ammo, plus various medical supplies and food stuffs in your large backpack? Sure... no problem. Want to add 1 more handgun into that backpack (realistically an item that can easily be tucked into the side pocket or any small space) Nope, can't do that! -- With weight being the determining factor over 'space' it would make much more sense. You would still need a grid to place items into, just expand it. And do not restrict what we can carry by the grids space... it is not an accurate representation of actual storage space -
If I could jump in on this idea... Also suggested to NY 7 (Faindizzle) admin while he was on, that the server should have a message display every 5-10 minutes with the server name listed. Or a variable command, not entirely sure how Arma handles these... much like hitting the console and typing /servername You can probably count 50+ players in the span of an hour asking 'which server is this??'
