How about Paint it Black?

Just when I thought I was destined to forever lurk around reading whiney threads about what should or shouldn't be in SA, someone comes up with a piece of quality like that. I don't care how many times this clip has already been posted, it needs to be stickied somewhere so that all can benefit. Kiddies, that's what class looks like.

Think your good at flying the little bird?
Cobb (DayZ) replied to Shadow Man's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
I'm impressed. :beans: for the pilot. Particularly, I enjoyed the WW1-style Immelmann Turn off the high speed street run beginning at 10:10. All it needed was Snoopy zipping past on his doghouse trailing smoke shaking his fist in rage. -

Perhaps the flying skills are meant to be posted by someone else? I'm following this, just to see where it goes... -
39 yo ex-military Australian. Like Hugh Jackman, but less superstar-like. :P My desktop martyred itself so I'm running off my Mac, and therefore ARMA-less until I whistle up a replacement. I'm a pretty handy writer though, as well as being a voice talent.

Yep, my mistake. Should have been clearer. I had just seen the latest clip on youtube and hadn't been following the private hive thread. I must have been browsing your channel and caught the clip at the wrong/right time. The manic "hooovves" wailing freaked me out as much as anything else. Loved it.

Whatever you guys are doing, keep it up. That last short clip was some entertainingly weird stuff. Keep 'em coming.

DayZ Standalone: Military guns and how they can balanced and fixed-modified
Cobb (DayZ) replied to logan23's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Bear in mind I'm speaking in general here. My experience leads me to say 'Probably, yes'. If you stripped four M4's and placed them on the ground, I am sure that you could swap bolt carrier groups, receivers etc generally with no problems. There might be the odd case of machining quirks making parts not fit perfectly, but on the whole I'd say it would work. Same same for the AK family providing you are swapping within the same weapon type, and for your M249/M240. I won't speculate on the M14 as I have not handled one. Regarding the precision weapons; I think you could run into some problems here. Typically these rifles tend to made to higher standards, with tighter tolerances for less variation from shot to shot. I can't see a mechanical reason why the bolt from one M24 wouldn't fit another, but I doubt it would perform as effectively as the original. Swapping a broken sight for a working one I would assume would require re-zeroing, but not present a problem greater than having the correct tools. ON CLEANING Keeping a weapon in good working order takes more than just remembering how many rounds have been fired since it was last cleaned. People who rely on firearms to keep them alive don't shoot them until they fail to fire, they clean them. Regular stripping, cleaning and inspection gives the user an opportunity to make certain that all the bits and pieces are in good working order. After re-assembly, a function test allows the user the chance to be as certain as possible that the weapon will function when required. Maintenance is about prevention, not cure. Stripping, cleaning and inspecting magazines is equally important for the same reasons above. ON OPERATOR ERROR An often overlooked factor in failures to fire is operator error. Incorrect seating of a magazine, incorrectly performed immediate action drills, general lack of confidence and familiarity with the weapon system are as important as dud ammunition and carbon fouling. The cleanest weapon in the world won't fire if the user does something badly out of sequence. Roll all of that into a gaming environment and my guess is that the intention is to generate a mechanic which takes into account all of these factors (and others I have missed as well) and come up with a way to simulate the likelihood that any given instance of firing for any given weapon will succeed/fail based on how that weapon has been maintained. Moral of the story: A well-maintained weapon system is more likely to go bang when you want it to. -
Couple of moronic logic's that should be fixed.

Thank the Dear Sweet Lord it was only a gaz and not the HetSteak van that was sacrificed in a fiery ball of Jameson's flavoured conflagration! (I'd hate to waste the Bushmills on anything so mundane)Never actually believed that old canard about "I play pool better after a couple of beers/bourbons/bundy's/bacardi's" either. Sure as hell makes for some entertaining evenings though. Perhaps it's just a matter of matching the level of sobriety with the level of difficulty. Next time try driving in reverse, third person. Apply alcohol as required. I have dibs on not riding shotgun though. -

While I'm not an expert on primitive tools and technology, I'm fairly certain that small flints where shaped to skin/dress carcasses in days of yore. As has been said, it is relatively delicate work suited to precise tools. The geometry of an axe blade would make it very difficult to get sharp enough, let alone keep sharp enough. Have a close look at the edge of an axe blade. Then have a close look at a skinning knife. They look different because they are used for different purposes. I find it hard to believe anyone could carry that weight for that length of time and consume only 350ml of water. You say you did, and I wasn't there. I still don't find it credible. To perform consistently over an extended period of time a person needs to maintain a level of hydration (amongst other factors), not swing to and from badly dehydrated. From my recollection, 40mm makes a deep thump when fired rather than the sharp report from gunfire (even if it is suppressed). Higher register noise is far more easily noticed and located than low register sounds. How you pack a heavy load can influence how comfortable it is to carry and how cumbersome it feels to move while carrying it. It will not make it weigh less or take significantly less effort to carry it around. -

I'd say it's fairly clear that no-one thought this was a legitimate suggestion. However labelling something as a joke doesn't make it funny. Moral of the Story: Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. -

 Just watched the latest clip, and I'm hoping it doesn't end the way it looks things might... Have you got an overall storyline (for lack of a better term) that you are looking to bring out? I ask not out of criticism, more out of curiosity. I have no doubt things are heading somewhere, but a little tease might whet the appetites out there. -

For some reason I am picturing the Mystery Machine, piloted by Steak, Het hanging out the passenger side window. Both munching down Scooby Snacks as they mow down Z's on the Highway to Hell. And explosions.

Strong chance I've missed something vital here, but has it actually been stated that there will be an animation for answering nature's call? I was under the impression that it was the effects (ie: an increased chance of getting sick) on high populated areas which were being considered, not the action itself. Failed. And badly.

You boys, you're so crazy! Subscribed, despite the soundtrack.

You've pretty much summed up real life right there. Most people can run, jump, crouch, hold a rifle etc. Some of them have taken the time to learn more complex/effective ways to do those "simple" tasks. They may gain an advantage by doing so, but run the risk of making a mistake somewhere in their complex action and being trumped by someone doing the "simple" task more efficiently. Moral of the story: if you want to use that high speed manoeuvre, you had better practise until you can do it right when under pressure. Otherwise the KISS crowd will own you. Love to see this stuff in the game, by the way.
