Rocket tweeted that he has already fixed this bug, and it will be in the next patch most likely. It is caused by dead players (Read: Dead. Not combat logged) corpses despawning after they leave the server. Most people press Esc and quit the game immediately after dying, so that's why their bodies seem to disappear within seconds of death. The Respawn button is broken atm, so that makes the issue more pronounced than it would be otherwise.

This happened to me and my friend when we first started playing the mod. We had different client versions of the mod, playing on the same server.

Who still plays main hive chernarus? Must be a minority of players by now. Private Hives are better managed, less laggy, have more features (such as working fuel stations, more weapons/vehicles), and are generally hacker free (depending on admin awareness).

A Huey engages unprovoked and ends up running away scared after their door gunner gets taken out by Shane. I'm pretty sure they were badly damaged too, as I shot at least 5-10 rounds into the bottom/front of the chopper as it flew over. Check out the video I managed to capture last night on the "Taviana 2.0 - US 77" server. I think it's pretty hilarious! We steal two fellow's red hatchback car, get away, and then have a near miss when they try to chase us down in their Bus. Strong language warning.
