Strong chance standalone alpha will be out within the next few months so you should avoid high amount of hacking currently going on and just wait till release. -

Be careful with who you trust in dayz. Many times we were killed by people that stated they were friendlies before shooting us in the backs.

Search around for some camps on the northern border of chernarus. We tend to find all the best gear up in that area.

DMR is one of the most versatile rifles in dayz and finding DMR/M14 ammo is pretty easy compared to FAL ammo which can only be found at crashed heli sites. AS50, according to good percentage of people on this forum seem to think that it is the best sniper rifle followed closely by the DMR,M107,SVD. If you somehow managed to get your hands on NVGs then it would be good idea to focus on mastering DMR considering you can use them both together at night.
