Most likely he was afraid of you shooting him, or just a bandit. I am starting to think that most kill on sight situations are not caused by people being assholes but people thinking the other guy is an asshole and shooting first.

http://battleye.com/download.html For your information, DayZ Commander doesn't update BattlEye. BE mostly self-updates but seems to glitch sometimes, thus forcing you to download manually. -
