  1. Sure, let's go over this again... He was accused of being a hacker and evidence was presented. I'm not going to go over every little detail, I'm just gonna give you my opinion. I believe he hacked. Evidence was overwhelming and his response to it didn't help any. Nothing will really convince me otherwise. I still enjoy his content. I do not watch his videos because he is good at the game. I watch his videos because I enjoy his commentary. His job is to entertain. He entertains me. He earns money. That is how it should work. If he wants to buy hacks and CD keys with that money, he's free to keep throwing his money at Bohemia 'cause he'll just be banned over and over. More than anything I'm tired of hearing about it. Simply because of three things: 1. People who go overboard, like "He should be treated like a real criminal and sent to jail for it" as if he's actually killing people or something. 2. People who feel the need to vehemently defend him. From a completely unbiased standpoint you can't say the evidence isn't compelling. I am a fan of him and I still think it made sense. It bothers me when people "protect" him like he's going to arrive on their doorstep with a bouquet of flowers and personally thank them for their valiant efforts. 3. The fact that it's brought up every time, and every time it is you get the two types of people listed above. Oh, and if anyone believes that if I enjoyed his videos (Even his Battlefield ones) that I actively support hacking, they're hypocrites. I'll just let this cool song explain it all.

What happened to 10 -- 15buck$ alpha pricing?

I don't recall any official source confirming a $15 price. I remember everyone speculating how much it'd be (My guess was £15, which wasn't too far off) but as far as I'm aware there was never a confirmation of price until it was released.

    Tired of this

Except when it clearly states on the store page why and only why you should be paying for the alpha; to support the project. To be fair, I don't care what anyone thinks about if you should pay for an alpha, what you should expect, yada yada, If you've been straight up told "Look, this game is completely raw. If you do not like that, we do not want you to buy it." and you say "Yes. I am okay with this." then you really have no place to gripe about it being incomplete or the fact you had to pay for it as it is written clear as day and there are ample opportunities to see what you're getting before you're buying. Not only this, but It's not at all like DayZ is the only alpha that charges a price for this as it's how the "Early Access" program for Steam works. It's essentially a kickstarter without the option to pledge random amounts. Plenty of games have the standard alpha at a set price, then added rewards for larger purchases that act as pledges. There are plenty of games that do the exact same thing DayZ is doing, and DayZ is a highly anticipated title. Besides, I bet the only reason a public alpha was released at this point was because they were tired of hearing "I don't care what it is, just give us something" and now I bet they're tired of hearing "If it wasn't ready you shouldn't release it".

    Tired of this

To be fair it's easy to understand how I could have taken that as a timer for a patch. Apart from that, I digress.

Then you wouldn't be saying this: Someone who understands that this is the alpha would not call the things that typically come along with an alpha "Bullshit" because that implies they expected it not to occur. Or, this: Obviously if THEY don't know when they can fix it, why would they make a timer to announce the patch? They rely on constructive feedback and reports from the community to create these patches. They have no control over how often they get useful information as opposed to "Oh my god this game is fucking dumb fix it". I understand it's no fun but again that is what you should expect when you play an alpha. I'm not saying you should be perfectly fine with tedious, but you should not be surprised at all when it happens. Instead, just provide whatever information you can on the issues and then wait for the ensuing patch, as you are supposed to do when you play an early access alpha.

    What Standalone Needs

Thing is, the reason that was so funny was because it was an innovative way to mess with people. If these sorts of things are actively encouraged by the game they'd grow old quick. However, I believe having the potential for these things to happen such as the aforementioned ability to hide in a trunk are a great idea for a bit of fun in a scary world.

    Standalone early access idea

This is going to be hilarious considering I just said I can read perfectly fine, but I did not see that you were referring to the Steam Forums. Now I get that there are significantly more people complaining on there as there are here (Seems to be a thing with Steam Forums), but I feel that's simply because it's easier to post there than create here; you can't own the game without a steam account. Some people can't be bothered making an account just to be whiny. I still believe that the number of people who don't understand it's an alpha is significantly smaller than the amount of people who do understand and either don't post when there's a problem, or they leave a constructive report.

    Standalone early access idea

Give me a rough estimate of how many people do you think, on average, you see per day post here who don't seem to understand the concept of an "Early Alpha".

    Standalone early access idea

That will not work well as most people have the common sense to understand the concept of an alpha and thus do not need to be reminded therefore don't read it, so we're just locking them out of the game. I can safely say I have absolutely no problem reading mor understanding disclaimers or Terms and Conditions, and there was a game that did this for their forums and due to the fact that the terms and conditions contained the phrase "Untick the box at the end to signal you understand these terms" under the definition of "spam" and me being an avid user of forums for 10 years was perfectly aware of the definition of spam chose not to read it and so I did not understand why I was locked out of the forum until someone told me what was up about a week later after I had lost interest. TL;DR: People skip the disclaimers because they understand them. Setting a "trap" only causes confusion. Also, people are still going to ignore the actual contents of the message even after reading through them.
  10. There is not a single game that exists that is, was, or ever will be unhackable. The creativity of some people is way out there. They will find a way around anything. The key is to make it incredibly complicated to pull it off. That way, people who know how probably don't want to waste their talent on a game, and people who have no idea how that stuff works and just follow tutorials will not be able to go through with it. The only issue with that is that if they know how to do it, they probably know how to make something that does it for anyone at the push of a button. Or, they just do what people have been doing with the mod; Stealing the CD keys (or accounts) of gullible people by promising them hacks. The community is it's own worst enemy in this aspect.

    Just my luck.

So, there are pretty much only 3 gaming platforms I can honestly say I love. Of course, there's PC for obvious reasons. Then there's PS3 because of the free online and nice looks. And then there's the GameCube. It bewilders me that it was considered the worst console of its generation. I love this thing. I'm playing it right now. Anyway, to my point. As some of you know I enjoy making videos of the games I play. However my capture card (Roxio GameCap HD PRO) accepts 2 types of input: Component (Y/Pb/Pr) or HDMI. Gamecube ships with composite (R/W/Y). Now, allow me to describe my issue: PS2 Component cable = £3 - £5 PS3 Component cable = £3 - £5 Xbox Component cable = £8 - £10 Xbox 360 Component cable = £10 - £15 Wii Component cable = £1 - £3 GameCube Component cable = £150 - £180 Because they're discontinued. What are the odds? I've been looking into alternatives with converters but the only solutions I have are: Downgrade my Capture card from HD Pro to HD, which is still £100. Purchase S-Video cables and then a S-video to component converter with component to component cables, but that's still £70. I even tried just plugging the composite cables for the Gamecube into my HD Pro, And whilst I can get audio and video, it's in black and white. No good for recording. Woe is me.

    Just my luck.

With eBay I'm more likely to find someone trying to scam me out of my money than someone throwing away a valuable cable.

    Just my luck.

PS3 HDMI has HDCP thus no capture card can record with HDMI on the Ps3 without circumventing the copy protection. Thus you must use component input, which has a max of 1080i.

    Just my luck.

Okay, I might have accepted you saying that the El Gato was better, but you'd have to be either really stupid or a really biased to call the Roxio the WORST capture card when there are some that churn out quality like this: Whereas without changing any settings this is the standard with my HD Pro: Now that right there looks perfectly fine. I'm not saying it's the best quality, but if I can get that on 1080i with no video editing, I'm set. The audio is fine, the video file converts easily. I also got it for £50 less than the El Gato. Yep, figured as much. It's what I put in the first post. Unless someone is either generous enough to give me their component lead or clueless enough to not know its value and sell it cheap.

    Just my luck.

According to the 1-star reviews that make up the most of that page, it has significant quality deterioration. I may as well record in black and white at that point and save myself £20+.
  17. Report posts like that. Because... Though do note that in plenty of cases a reminder that the game is nowhere near finished is rather necessary when you get posts such as "wtf i spent good money on this game and its trash because things dont work good", essentially when people come across as if they expected it to work fully. Typically a suggestion doesn't need to include things like "This is total bullshit" or "Who thought this was a good idea?" or "Waste of my money" because the idea is the game is not supposed to be very polished right now, and if someone comes across as not expecting that then they do need to be reminded. But if it's simply a suggestion or bug report, like "I die immediately when I use a bicycle, no idea why" or "Has anyone ever considered implementing blablabla to prevent yada yada?" then those are exactly what we want and encourage people to do because it helps the game move forward when informative posts are spread around and constrictive thoughts are raised, and "omg its alpher stfu" is not needed to these and is honestly nothing more than spam. Though I must admit I have used "Alpha" as a replacement for "Thanks Obama".

    Classes in DayZ

This I would much prefer. I saw this posted a while ago too and I was behind it. The longer I'm alive, the better I should become at staying alive. However, I feel that the numbers should be much bigger, so instead of 10 bandages for 10%, something like 50 bandages. It'd be far too easy to simply grind back up to where you were before if you die should they be too low. The reason I prefer this one is because there's a sense of the player actually working to achieve these bonuses, not given to them because they pressed a button to give it to them. I don't think the bonuses should go too high though, or it may still turn into a grind-fest as a lot of people are willing to bandage themselves a thousand times if you tell them it'll make them immune to bleeding.

    Classes in DayZ

Yes, but if I spent 10 years studying first aid, why would that suddenly stop me from learning how to be a good cook or marksman? It pretty much takes away from the whole "Take what you're given and make it work" aspect of the early-game as I'm now limited myself to a specific playstyle for the duration of that life, and also means that if there's one class that's generally better than another class then everyone will be using it. I don't think having a couple hundred thousand medics/mechanics/whatever hypothetical class that happens to be the meta running around is very realistic either.

    Classes in DayZ

I remember this mentioned before and the general consensus was it wasn't a good idea because you shouldn't have any sort of advantage over another player in any aspect unless you personally put that effort into it. So you all start out as identical people, as even as possible, and if you want to specialize in something, you have to do it yourself. If you want to be a medic, go scavenge the medical supplies yourself. Mechanic? Get the car parts and store them somewhere. Sniper? Practice your aim. You get the drift. It's just not what DayZ is going for.
