There's reasons to go with each. If you go with the mod: It's free beyond the price of ARMA. It's packed with players, so it'll never die. These players are also very good at contributing, allowing the game to continue to see updates beyond standalone's release. The fact you need ARMA means you also gain access to every single other mod for ARMA. And there are LOADS. ARMA itself is an awesome game. Very extensive. You don't have to wait. You can get it right now. And the standalone: Extremely polished. Is going to be the main focus of the DayZ Team, obviously. Will likely have more players than the mod. Will be cheaper than ARMA, since it's DayZ alone and no other games/mods. Better optimized, I believe.

If you bought the game new on a separate account, just reinstall the game whilst steam has administrator purposes. If you're still banned, then whatever stole your key has stolen your other ones, too. Either way, we can't help you. BattlEye is who you need to speak to. I seriously feel the negative reaction was incredibly fucking stupid. I saw a post that, when summed up, had a brilliant point: There are so many crazy things that make no sense in the mod such as being able to carry enough tires to fit out a car in your backpack, or the fact that zombies walk through walls​, yet everyone has decided that the one thing that they simply cannot stand is something that does not actually impact gameplay at all, it is simply a homage to the people tasked with cleaning up OUR shit day in and day out. Some people were actually accusing the mods of being egotistical, even though they had no part in creating or getting them added into the game, so even the mods who were fine with removed them were offended. There wasn't even an attempt at a compromise. I'm entirely for the cans staying in the game, but I'd still like to be fair and at least suggest they are changed into rares, like the Mountain Dew. Honestly, it's just a case of a few individuals taking a shit in the metaphorical sandbox because someone else got a better looking bucket than them, and it's very childish and disappointing. In short: :emptycan: times infuckingfinity.

Case in point. One hour of your time (easily more), gone, because of the actions of another player. In CoD, you spawn with your gear (Minus your killstreak) instantly. It's entirely different. This is entirely dependent on you being able to find your body before someone loots it, or that nobody finds your tent/stash, or even that your friend is online at all. What happens when you and your friend die? Or are you planning on only ever playing when you have a full-on squad with you? If so, you're missing out on most of the survival aspect of the game.

It's much easier and better to navigate via keyboard an mouse once you're used to it, but if you need to use a PS3 controller or Xbox controller, use XPadder. It allows you to set certain buttons to different keys on your keyboard.
