3rd Party Interaction, and why it ruins the game
Rage VG replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be honest, if there were Radios that broadcast your voice over direct AND the other people's radios, I'd use it. It would be pretty awesome to find a dead body with a radio on it, and be able to hear what people were saying on that frequency. It would also help people find medical aid. -

You are saying we should look at how the game is played mostly now as PvP; this is the meta, but you are complaining about metagaming tactics? I'll never understand that one. Oh, you! You really had me going for a while. I thought you were being serious. A bit too late for April fools, but funny nonetheless. -

Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?
Rage VG replied to Maloney (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I used teamspeak for at least 4 hours for the first time on Balota Buddies, I went on it quite a few times after that, for maybe an hour at a time. I still use it for when I'm playing League with VG, since one of our players can't use Skype, so we just use TS. I'm not sure why you spent the time trying to convince me I'm wrong if you were just going to dismiss me like that in the end anyway. -
Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?
Rage VG replied to Maloney (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well every time I have been in one, it has done it at least once. I've had many multiple hour-long skype calls with no problems at all. Actually, only the host can allow someone to join a call, or allow someone the privilege of adding people to calls, otherwise they can only join the group, and send and receive text messages. Plus, the skype call will focus the window when someone is added to the group call. And someone saying "USER JOINED YOUR CHANNEL" is no good, because you can't do anything about them being in there, nor can you prove why they are there to convince someone who can do something, to do something. In skype, you're free to give them the boot. So you're saying that it's skype's problem if the person isn't there or doesn't want to talk? That happens in TeamSpeak too. So the only plus here is that I won't have to press one button before I talk to someone, if I even want to talk to them which I now have no say in since I have no "decline" button either, of if I'm even there to answer. Does that justify paying for a server? If you're not talking about a small squad, then I'm not sure why you're quoting me, as I said in my first post that it's ideal for squads... All in all, I don't feel it's worth paying for a server, just for the convenience of not having to click accept to talk to someone. -

Rage VG replied to Maloney (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
On the contrary, the first time I went into Balota Buddies, the Teamspeak derped once ever 10 minutes or so, meaning we literally could not understand anyone. On Skype, if someone lags, then only they are hard to hear, unless its the host, which sure as hell beats being unable to hear anyone at any random time. Directly below "Push to mute" is "Toggle mute", so if you mute your mic, you press the button to unmute, and it'll mute again once you let go. I don't see a squad being more than 5 players, and like I said, it was fine. There's no reason anyone should have to say something to another squad member that the others can't hear anyway, unless they are planning to betray them. Why would I want to sit in a channel and have strangers join and listen in, anyway? There's no sense of privacy in TeamSpeak, and due to that we had bandits joining, just to hear where we were to come and kill us. I'm sure as hell not going to pay for me and 4 other friends to chat in private when I can do it for free on skype. -

voice quality is fine for me, in chats of 5+ people. Yes there is. And why would a squad be talking in more than one channel? -
3rd Party Interaction, and why it ruins the game
Rage VG replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, it's "We should allow it, because it's not against the TOS, therefore it isn't cheating." Hey, I could do that too; your argument is: "Someone killed me and they weren't playing identical to me, therefore that is the sole reason they killed me and it should be removed from the game" -
3rd Party Interaction, and why it ruins the game
Rage VG replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Mature as dictated by you, I suspect. I don't use Skype/ts when I play, mostly because I play solo. When I do use skype, it's to talk to people playing League of Legends, or Battlefield, and I still use Direct chat to talk to people ingame. And I think it's a terrible idea. Before it is a survival experience, remember that it is a video game. It seems slightly hypocritical of you to questions people's maturity after declaring the majority of the player base "Assholes" and "Jerks" because they play how they want on a video game. -

Rage VG replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This. Not only do I want to use whatever programs I want when I play my game, but I don't want to have to shut down every single fucking process on my computer before I play, because someone said I can't use anything else. There are a million and one programs that will let you talk to people. mIRC, TinyChat, Skype, TS, Mumble, MSN, AIM, fuck, you could talk to someone through CMD if you were desperate. Maybe they should sell DayZ PCs, that attach a mask with a mic to your face, so you can only talk into the mic, and the PC ONLY has DayZ installed, so there's no more Skype or Teamspeak. Not fun for you. Stops it being fun for you. You know, I usually enjoy taking my dogs for a walk, but I find myself flying into a rage when I see people on their mobile phones. "GET OFF YOUR CHEATING GADGETS AND TALK TO YOUR FRIEND BY ACTUALLY GOING TO HIM, YOU BASTARD!" I'd scream. Same goes whenever I see an ambulance. "WHAT THE FUCK, YOU CAREBEARS! IF HE FUCKED UP, HE DESERVES TO DIE AAAAAAGH" This totally ruins my dog-walking experience and these things should be banned. -

OH MY GOD ANOTHER ONE OF THESE GODDAMN THREADS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH Look, I understand that you want to enjoy the game to its utmost, but that doesn't give you the right to go all Führer on us and tell us what we can and can't do. If we want to ruin the game for ourselves by skipping out on the fun (exploring for our own gear) or destroy the immersion for ourselves (Using teamspeak), we have every right to do that, because we are not restricted by the TOS. It is not your place to tell us how we should play and what we should do, because it is not up to you, it is up to the rules of the game, and none of those are broken by using TS or the forums. There are dozens of players who only want to player super hard-on immersion style, why not just gather these players and populate a server, or even host your own? You get your perfect game, and you don't have to rage on the forums. Finally, it ruins the game my ass. You are acting like it is literally unplayable because you can't hear what people are saying, or people are actually co-operating. This is the same train of thought those selfish game corporations have towards used games; "We are losing so much money(fun) because of people selling used games (Using teamspeak)!" No. You are not losing out on anything, you're just not gaining there, because you haven't stuck your hand in that cookie jar to stop everyone else taking some. This is one cookie jar you can't stick your hand in. More like,- 165 replies

Is it not the same on other maps?

I believe you can disable debug menus in the options, right? I remember when the debug menu was removed by default, you could re-enable it through that, however the icons froze when you did.

Because he went into conflict fully aware of this possibility, and the fact that everyone will most likely be doing it means that it's not even that unlikely to encounter. It's simply something more or less everyone does that's highly effective. -
i have not played for 6mths and i banned!!?
Rage VG replied to ITZdig666's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Your CD-key has been caught hacking. You can play ARMA II, but not ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead, as this is the CD-key that DayZ uses and ultimately, the one that is banned. Speak to BattlEye. -
How to balance all the different gamestyles?
Rage VG replied to liquidmind's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Honestly, I feel they are all balanced: PvPers: They might get items easier from someone, but they are more likely to have them taken away by someone. Usually towards the northern end of the map, as the high-end gear is there to attract other players. Non-PvPers/Survivalists: Takes much longer, but relatively safer. Usually inhabits the middle of the map, as it is a calm between the swarm of PvPers up north, and everyone spawning down south. Medics: They run the risk of people specifically hunting them down, however it's not uncommon for grateful patients to give them supplies. Mostly found at the bottom of the map, as there are many people and thus much higher chances of a casualty. So I don't feel it's the game's fault if that doesn't work out, because it is doing all it is expected to do; give us a canvas in which to create our communities and worlds. Remember, rocket said that he doesn't ever want to give the game a "safe-zone", but if players banded together and through their own work made a safe haven, that's entirely allowed and encouraged. Same goes for this, if you want an ideal setup like I mentioned, find like-minded people (Believe it or not, there are PvPers who only want to fight other people with some good gear, not just fresh spawns, and there are plenty of people who spend a lot of time just exploring the woods) and make it happen. Mind you that medics would be all but useless if the only fighting was done up north, as most players have their own supplies, or die before they have a chance to use them up there, and the woods are easy to get lost in, so there's little luck of finding folks up there. -

I just tried it. I found dozens of servers in both the UK and the US, with no "Extra servers" or "Starting gear" mentioned at all. Entirely vanilla. Honestly, I'm getting tired of all these threads that ultimately end up in "Hurry up with Standalone!" "HEY ROCKET! This guy can't find a server to his liking, let's release an unfinished game for him!"
-
If only there were some way to... Hide unofficial servers, or something... Oh.

Buying CD keys from sites is not prohibited at all, as they are almost guaranteed to be stolen, and thus will probably get global banned anyway. You would have to buy Operation Arrowhead on a new Steam account. Reinstall Operation arrowhead as an Admin and your new CD-key will be installed.

Which, as I have said many times (It's almost like I said I'm repeating myself), I personally believe will be the vast majority of cases. There is no way you can disprove this, and there's no way I can confirm it. How many times do I have to say that? The reason they don't kill themselves when you ask them to drop their guns is because there is still a fighting chance at escaping. Not the case when you're bound and gagged. You are virtually fucked. Lo and behold, it's another part of your argument that's based on something you can't give concrete proof of; For what reason would someone not want to take control of when their captivity ends, if they believe that death awaits them at the end anyway? Even if that's not always the case, you cannot prove it won't happen. So you can't tell me "No, you're wrong because X will happen, not Y." You can't even prove it won't be the majority of cases. But yet again...

You know your idea's bad when you expect players to use exploits to avoid it.

So what is the point of implementing it? Sigh... I have already told you, the only things you can change to prevent it being griefable would end up make it pretty much pointless and not worth the time it'd take to implement it and squash all the bugs. I said that 3 or 4 posts ago and that hasn't changed. Like I said... Now, both my "argument" and your "argument" are based upon things neither of us can provide concrete proof of (I can't prove every single player would rather die than be someone's hostage, you can't prove that people would be so willing to co-operate at such a level as to allow being tied up. I can't prove how difficult it would be to implement, and you can't prove how easy it would be), there is no feasible way to prove these and all that either of us can go on is our own speculation, hence clashing opinions. We can sit here and bang heads together all day over it, but I don't think that's a productive way to spend time.

Performance-enhancing drugs exist solely to give an advantage in a purely competitive environment, and it's expressly stated that they are prohibited, not just for the sake of the game, but because they actually impact the health of the user. You can't tell me that I'm not allowed to talk to my friends, whether they happen to be playing DayZ or not, because you think that I should be entirely bound by the limits of the game, meaning that if my friends aren't in the game with me, they're not allowed to exist to me. If the server owner wants to throw around rules like that, then I'm at my discretion to either accept them or find another server, and spare people who play this way of my presence. But as it stands, there is nothing stating I cannot talk to other people via Skype or TS on Vanilla DayZ servers. Also, DayZ is not a purely competitive game. You can go through the entirety of your time playing without having come across one hostile person, when they have little to no reason to be friendly. It isn't necessary for such strict reigns on what I do. There is also nothing at stake; Sure, you can't hear me if I don't talk in-game, and that might prolong my life, but there's no reward for living. I'm not denying you of a prize at the finish line, due to taking an easier route there. Overall, "banning" external chat programs is a waste of time, since you'll just cause collateral (to the people who are talking to friends outside of the game) and it's incredibly easy to circumvent (How are you going to stop me using skype on my mobile or laptop, whilst I play on my desktop?) with very little benefit (I'm pretty sure that if I can't talk to my friends, I'm not going to start talking to myself ingame, I'll be just as quiet.) Also, You mean besides the fact that they are literally two different things, as I've explained roughly 6 or 7 times? All in all, everyone is still only thinking of themselves, the way they want to play, and telling people that everyone has to play like that. There are servers that require everyone to join and talk in a mumble server which reacts to player proximity, so it's exactly like direct chat in DayZ. You'll have a hard time finding them since they're so unpopular (I wonder why!), but if you really can't stand the alternative, there ya go. Well good for you, but what about people who aren't? Again, good for you, but there's nothing to show everyone else would, too. -
Not only is it very possible to grief very easily, but the fact that whoever I wanted to keep alive can just somehow kill themselves makes it virtually useless to me. However, I seem to find that I'm repeating myself here. I'm just going to stop replyng here; you know my opinion, and it simply clashes with yours.
