  1. And thus, nothing of importance was lost. Now that we're free of this nuisance, back onto the topic. Urban, are there any competing providers you could go to, and suggest they look into a map tool?
  2. Ah, but that's their loss, in the end. I understand that the map tools are reason enough for you to stay there, and I hope that another provider can offer it soon. My only advice is try to avoid the toxic community they apparently have. Also, seems like you both made the same thread at the same time, again. At least this time, the posts have merged in a sensible manner. Aaaaaand it looks like Afew is flaming staff once again. I don't know what I was expecting. Oh no, what a tragedy. You were such an iconic part of our community, it'll be such a shame you won't be joining us. I'm not going to let this thread devolve the same way the previous ones did; if you're going to simply throw crap at the people trying to keep the forums tidy, you'll simply be removed.
  3. If this is the norm there, it's a wonder they have so many users to begin with.
  4. Private hives do not require a joining process, they simply have better tools for fighting hackers. Whitelist servers usually have an application on their site. If you find one you like but can't figure out the app, shoot me a PM, I'll walk you through it. If you can't find one either, I could probably look for a few for you, too.
  5. Most whitelisted servers see significantly less hacking, simply because of the androgynous process to get into the server almost completely eliminates any reward for hacking on it.
  6. Should go in the Gallery.
  7. Question; May I know the font used in the banner on your site? I like it.
  8. I've yet to see OP complain about the jokes made about the avatar. On the contrary, OP has joked alongside people about it... Also, I don't exactly appreciate you assuming everyone here is a randy teenager. Sure, There's always a few, but the majority of people are not like that, myself included. Most sensible people don't hang around here waiting for a provocative picture when if they actually want to see that stuff they could go Google it. I get your point, though. I'm just not a fan of the over-generalization, is all. Anyway, @OP; I would go with MyBB too. It's the most familiar to me. I think I like the look of your site because it's simple, yet it doesn't look default. It could do with a small change in color scheme, but the overall layout's fine.

Can't join Dayz servers through Arma OA

You could also use DayZCommander simply to get the IP address, then use the Direct connect through OA to join. :]

Can't join Dayz servers through Arma OA

The problem is that your mod version is incompatible with the server. You'd have to downgrade/upgrade to join. Honestly, I would just use DayZCommander for DayZ. You can upgrade and downgrade as you please, or you can just hide servers that aren't using your version.
  11. Admin Ban: An administrator has banned you from his server, not ours. Global Ban: BattlEye has banned you from ArmA II, not us. And if you bought a game just for a mod, that's already £30 wasted, no matter how good the mod might be. You paid for the game, not this.
  12. I made a guide on how to do this with images. Gimme a moment. EDIT: And before you ask, yes, you can sign in and play DayZ/ArmA II from your old steam account again after doing this.
  13. I'm used to pings of up to 300 average. If I'm playing solo, I aim for 100 or less, and will avoid 200+. If I'm in a group, which more often than not are comprised of American players, I'll settle for anything around 250. It's bad, but why make everyone else have 150 ping for me to have 100, when they can all get 50 and I just get 200?

    [SA] Penumbra mechanics

I am very familiar with the Penumbra (And Amnesia) mechanics, and I am a massive fan of them, but I don't know if they'd work together. Penumbra/Amnesia are linear-ish survival horrors, with more emphasis on Horror than Survival. DayZ is the inverse, it's as non-linear as they come, with most focus on the Survival aspect. Those differences would mean the mechanics do not have the same sort of impact as they normally would. They were great in Penumbra and amnesia because they were woven in with other things. I could see it at least working, don't get me wrong, but would the hassle of having to do every tedious task by hand be compensated by the realism? One such example would be the sanity mechanic. It wouldn't really work in both a thematical sense nor a mechanical one. It wouldn't make thematical sense because the reason you start to go insane in Penumbra/amnesia upon seeing a monster is because you're always threatened with the thought that this thing could be around every corner, but he never is. You know he's somewhere, but where? So when he finally does make an appearance, it hits you like a tonne of bricks. You were never expecting it, and your erratic reaction links in with the effects of sanity loss such as blurry vision, weakness, fainting, etc. In DayZ, Zombies are littered everywhere. You know you're going to find them, you know their actions inside out, there's no reason to be afraid of them. From a mechanical point, remember that darkness played a massive part in your sanity. They made you rely upon natural light, because the resources you needed to keep your own light was scarce. The idea of being able to get some more of it was motivation enough to go through harder and scarier paths, which was exploited by the maps to scare you further. In DayZ, it's usually either light everywhere, making it essentially useless, or dark everywhere, making it impossible to wander around without flares or a flash, because you'd be passing out every 2 minutes. The addition of there really being no reliable light sources outside of the flashlight (which is infinite and also defeats the purpose) means it really wouldn't work well.

    BSOD

Well, I personally have not experienced issues with those drivers, so I have no idea on how to fix them. Hopefully, someone who has dealt with this before sees your thread.
  16. Rage VG

    BSOD

Yes, whilst running DayZ might result in a BSOD, we do not know if it is an issue with DayZ and not an external element such as a conflicting program or damaged hardware that is the root of the problem. BlueScreenView is probably the best one I've heard of. If you would like to use that to read your minidumps, and report any findings here, someone might know of your problem, as well as a solution.
  17. Rage VG

    BSOD

Unless we can deduce that the BSOD is caused specifically by DayZ, it'd be hard to fix it. If you can get an analysis on those minidumps and it does point to DayZ, I can look into it further for you.

    BSOD

There are sites and programs that read minidump files for you.
  19. Private hives don't require evidence to deal a ban. They can go from suspicion. @OP, I took a look at the site. MyBB is a great memory for me, I used to use them all the time xD I see that your site is relatively new. It looks pretty nice for a new site. Let me know if you ever need a helping hand; I don't mind helping any way I can.
  20. I was thinking, "What if there were a thread for both Server owners to be able to list their hive in a format that's user friendly, and for players to be able to find a server with the things they are looking for (Custom start gear, increased vehicles, pure vanilla, etc)?" The stickied thread hasn't been updated since December, so I have no reason to assume it's still being attended. Would you guys (Both server/community owners and wandering players alike) be interested in something like this? Or maybe you'd be interested in doing this yourself? If people want this done, but nobody is willing to do it, I'm up for giving it a try. I'm thinking along the lines of being able to just click on the thread, scroll down to, say, "Takistan", look for "Custom Vehicles", go to "UK Servers", and find any UK based Takistan servers that have Custom Vehicles. I'd have to spend some time fiddling to find a format that I find convenient to update, but I feel as though I haven't been contributing to the DayZ community as much as other people, and I'd like to take a crack at changing that. So, yeigh or neigh? I'd appreciate logical reasons For or Against, or just some ideas on how it could be implemented and kept reliably up-to-date.
  21. My bad, I keep mixing up your community with another ad.

    A Private Hive "Catalogue"?

Well, thank you for your input. I think I'll have to put this plan on the backburner until I have the time to either learn how to do that myself, or find someone willing to help me with it. Feel free to keep posting ideas either here or in my inbox, they're much appreciated ^^

    A Private Hive "Catalogue"?

Well, if server restarts were an issue, I could simply do a "Three strikes" rule. I could do it at different times of the day each week. If it's down 3 times in a row, it'd be removed. However, and don't take this personally, but I do not run any sort of files I get from the forums. The idea's good, but I don't think the thread would be used to such a wide scale. If a server's down, someone could post and report it as such. As I've sat down and thought about it, it does seem like a bleak possibility for me to do this all manually. I got to thinking, that I could instead do it for DayZ groups that are looking for members, or members looking for groups. I'm just spit-balling at this point.
