OMG does anyone else FREAK the fuck out when they hear the chain fence sound? FUCK me, scares the living piss out of me every goddam time. I just wish it would only happen if a player touched the fence. Then I'd actually have something to freak out about if I heard it. +1

As of right now, any notes you put on the map are viewable server-wide. Anyone with a map on that server will see them.
-
That is not possible with the Arma 2 engine. I'm not sure if even Arma 3 offers a destructible environment, but we can only hope that eventually we can see this. However, you do understand that this means eventually, all servers will have all the towns completely leveled, right? Don't really see this working realistically, at least not just yet.

I completely agree with OP. Crossbow needs a reddot scope for sure. And finding a single bolt in a barn every hour or so makes it pretty useless. For the sake of the weapon having any use whatsoever, I think you should find 'quivers' of bolts. Would work with Arma2 'clip mechanics', and the new Day Z 'clip combining mechanics'. I'd say 5-6 bolts per quiver, or whatever they retail as, which I believe is usually 6. Quiver would take up one slot in inventory, I would imagine.

Yeah, definitely codeable, definitely a good idea. Instead of chasing the thin human running away quickly, why not feast on a nice fat cow? :D

Suggestion: Infected migration/Bleeding attracts infected
Shroom replied to Nyarhra's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You probably aren't getting responses because people have already suggested similar things. I do agree zombie behavior needs to be changed in that they don't stand around so much. I've heard that they do have a sense of smell, but I haven't seen this at all. It would be interesting to be creeping through a field at night with multiple zeds around you, looking around in frantic paranoia hoping the wind doesn't shift, and then you see a zombie point his head to the sky, sniffing, finally looking in your direction... and the chase begins -
I want to see a pregnant female zombie so I can deliver her child and raise it as my own. My child will be the Zombie Stallion who mounts the world, and I will conquer all of Chernarus with my zombie army!

Lee Enfield Mountain Trolls and GiIlli Gimps
Shroom replied to 3rdparty's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Once they have the skin situation under control, and you don't have to worry about spawning in the ocean every time you change a skin, multiple outfits per person will make more sense. For one thing, no backpack is visible when wearing a ghillie suit, which doesn't make much sense. Backpack either needs to appear over the suit somehow, or needs to be disabled for people wearing the suit. That said, I love having ghillie, and would hate to see any negative sides to it come up, but I'd still prefer realism. Once there's a better clothing system enabled, I think negative effects for the various outfits will make sense. But until one can change skins often with impunity, I don't think they should change the way they work. -
i persoanlly would love to see third person removed entirely
Shroom replied to A.Jones's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Joining a veteran server is one option, yes. I personally only play on servers that disable crosshair, 3DP, and name display, because quite frankly, they're all incredibly unrealistic. If you're going to play a game like Day Z, you're playing for the immersion and realism. If you weren't, you would go play Left 4 Dead (don't get me wrong, I have 600 hours in L4D2, I play it every day. I love it.). But there's a reason this game is the way it is, and that's to be realistic and immersive. Looking around corners or over buildings magically does not make any sense whatsoever. While this game cannot accurately recreate the vision of a soldier, and compensates with offering the third person perspective, I think for the sake of this mod it should be disabled on all servers. -
VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16
Shroom replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Does this mean that EVERY time a server restarts (often once or multiple times a day) vehicle locations get reset? If I'm not mistaken, are you fucking kidding me?! People who work hard to obtain vehicles now lose them in under 24 hours. That makes them utterly worthless. If you meant that only after *THIS* server restart all vehicles will be reset, I request you make your wording more clear. That said, thanks for the update. -
Myself and some friends had been playing on NY 7 and 8 for a while until a rapid influx of nuking hackers deemed it necessary to give those servers regular visits, so just before the big update we moved over to NY 13 and NY 14, only to find them shut down and nowhere to be found for the next few days. I just saw them pop back up today still running 1.7.1.1... only they are password locked. I heard somewhere that this was not allowed? Regardless, what's the point of hosting a server if nobody can play on them, really? Does the admin want to pin down the vehicles for himself before he allows pubs to join? I'm not trying to make any insinuations, just wondering what the hell is going on (and if we will ever have our new camps back online). Thanks. This thread can be deleted. It looks like they have removed the password lock, and are only locking it and letting people in at bursts.

I think they were just updating. No worries. Africanized Bees is a good host and has always been during the time I've used their servers. EDIT: I'm pretty sure the temporary locking is simply to let people connect in bursts, for whatever reason. I don't mind, it keeps the dedicated users in and keeps out some who are just looking for any ol' server to play on.

What happened: Often, if I haven't played in 12-24 hours, when I log into a server my hunger and thirst are flashing red. This doesn't seem logical to me, as it should only be calculated based on actual playing time to fit within the realistic confines of what the game is (i.e., I realize that servers have a 24 hour day/night cycle, but basing hunger and food on this would not make sense as people can not realistically accommodate their character's needs on a 24 hour basis). I don't know if this is a glitch or not, or a gameplay element, but it hardly makes sense to plan a raid on some towns one day, log out with the intention of returning to camp the next day, and finding out that you will no longer have the food to sustain the trip, and now have to use up your remaining supplies just to be able to move. The other problem is hunger/thirst not saving on exit. I recently logged into a server and immediately noticed my flashing red hunger/thirst, and took care of them. Second, I noticed a horrible FPS problem, to which someone suggested the solution of exiting the game and rejoining. This worked, but when I rejoined the game, my hunger and thirst were back to flashing red, and I was out of food. So now I'm stuck in this town that hasn't yet spawned loot with my blood slowly decreasing, wondering how the hell I got myself into this situation, despite careful planning. Where you were: Don't really wish to give away my location as well as the server I was on, and I don't think location is really relevant to this issue. I was in the middle section of the map, if it helps. What you were doing: raiding towns, being forced to log out and log back in due to game issues, causing the problems described above. Current installed version: just updated to the latest patch (1.6.0) Server you were on: Dallas 11 Any feedback as to how or why this is happening is appreciated.

Question pertaining to new patch 1.7.1.4
Shroom replied to Zederok's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You will have to revert to older version of code to be able to properly play on servers running that code. You may be able to play with the wrong code, but be warned, things you don't want to happen will happen. Glitches will be abound, and you will not have a fun time playing the game. Sound will likely not work, and you'll get a constant message blacking out your screen informing you that you're running the wrong files. If any other files have been updated, such as equip, weapons, vehicles, etc., you will need to revert those as well. Best pick a server and stick to it, or keep different version of the files in your addon folder and overwrite as necessary if you want to join a server running different files. -

A new 'incentive' to encourage cooperation

-bump- Any fresh ideas out there? -
What do you mean HMG? Sounds like some sort of hacked weapon that you shouldn't be using, you naught boy.

No gun at the start of the game ?
Shroom replied to xchrispyyx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion

That's really interesting. Thanks for the info.
-
How does it only affect the car you have? Will other people on the server see the logo on your car? I assume they don't have the modified skin file, so how would anyone else see it?
-
If your character is recorded on the database as having a hacked weapon/gear in their inventory, you can be permabanned.

Awesome! Link to a 1920x1080p version? :D

A new 'incentive' to encourage cooperation
Shroom replied to Ejaculacid's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The thing is, with the classes as I described them in my earlier post, the downside to being a military officer is that you would have no skill, no ability fix vehicles, etc. And AKs are relatively easy weapons to find, and the M9 is rather weak (but better than a Mak). The only real benefit is adding storyline (and I'd imagine there would be unique skins for each class, as well). EDIT: Also, spawning as a military officer would, as I described, spawn them in a military location, which are pretty high risk. Spawning in as a soldier with a Kalashnikov on an airstrip when there's the possibility of a sniper being there already waiting to snipe you is pretty risky. So it definitely would have its downsides. --------------------------------------------------------------------- I am actually of the opinion that the character should start with nothing BUT their main trait/skill. Secondly' date=' the purpose of adding these independent skills is to encourage teamwork, as people would NEED each other. I'm not sure of any other possible solution. --------------------------------------------------------------------- I actually think the classes as I described them are rather balanced, and like I said, if nothing else I'd prefer the classes to all be exactly the same in starting gear with THE EXCEPTION of their main trait. This main trait is entirely removed from combat, giving no one an advantage over another, but making it harder to survive on your own as you lack the skills to do everything (which is somehow - and unrealistically - possible). The aiming thing was a completely different idea, and in no way needs to be a part of any of this. Like I said, it's just a compilation of ideas and concepts. I do agree that it's stupid, it's just a way to add realism between classes. Does it make sense that a fisherman is going to be able to shoot a gun as proficiently as a military or police officer? No. And don't worry, Rocket will never implement any sort of grinding or leveling in this game. But you do know, at range, your pistol will not fire dead center to where your iron sights are pointing. There is a dispersion radius based on how you're moving, how you're standing, how you're aiming, etc. The 'accuracy effect' would only widen that radius for lower skilled classes. And it's just a concept, all I really want to discuss here is HOW DOES EVERYONE KNOW HOW TO GUT AN ANIMAL. Or fix a vehicle. Ain't realistic. (Plus, there needs to be more teamwork, as I've said over and over).
