Sin is the purest of pure bred treasure hunters. He will walk on foot over 10km just to check a loot pile. He will traverse through mountains, forests, and countrysides to check for probable treasure locations. He will throw himself through the middle of a zombie hoarde to grab that valuable engine everybody needs. He will find the shiny gem of a vehicle to promote his mercantilism. Sin originated from the shadows of nowhereland to find a comfy home on the continent of Chernarus. First accompanied by his companion Ryker, upon arriving they learned the terrain and kept detailed journals of the treaures scattered across this new land. From weapons, to tools, to survival gears, to food and water, to the illustrious mountain dew and the fabled escape helicopter. Sin found it all, marked it all, and was immeasurably consumed by it all. Sin and Ryker then teamed up with PCGN survivors, still new to the land of Chernarus, sharing their wealth and valuable insight into the treasures of the land. Sin liked his new group that helped to keep him alive while he scoured for new treasure coves and to keep the stockpiles stocked. Air raids into high value locations were numerous until a new foe was encountered in the wilderness. Magical treasure junkies started showing up performing magic not supposed to be present in Chernarus. These junkies could spawn their own treasures, be it a vehicle or helicopter or weapons food and ammo. They made life for Sin and legitimately searching for treasures less and less worthwhile and more of a chore. So many times did these magical junkies interrupt Sin and PCGN that he almost gave up and set sail to the nowhereland he came from. Knowing the value Sin brought to the survival effort, PCGN and his comrade Ryker could not let him give up in the face of struggle! They orchestrated a contraption to combat the magical treasure junkies. Sin and PCGN could not kill the junkies, sometimes could not even see them, and other times they simply disappeared before they could initiate combat. The only option for dealing with these junkies was not to combat them, but to prevent them from even entering Chernarus. They rallied together and advertised the invention of the contraption, selling the entire population of Chernarus on the "Whitelister" and to join in on the fight against magical treasure junkies. After successfully launching this new contraption together with PCGN, Sin was now free again to pursue his goals and ambitions seeking the land's treasures. He is now free to roam and wander through the coves, and has gained a respect amongst the population which leaves the only enemy as the undead zombies. Sin now collects and hides his wares to trade and sell to the Chernarus populous, has made a very rich and coordinated name for himself, and spends his free time gathering medical supplies to aid the sick and wounded. If you see Sin, you do not kill him. You wave and smile, and ask him if he needs that new piece of treasure you found or if he has in stock that piece of treasure you need. If you do kill Sin, you have just awakened an entire continent's population, a sleeping giant, and they will hunt you down to end your miserable excuse of a life. Find Sin the Merchant on US 1872 hosted by pc-gamers.net *magical treasure junkies = hackers *get whitelisted at www.pc-gamers.net *stay tuned for upcoming events showcasing Sin the Merchant

We are averaging over 20 players per night, have added a merchant trading post, placed a few extra buildings across Chernarus, and have had some of the most epic firefighting moments between occupying groups during November! With over 120 whitelisted players on our server, the action remains to be fierce and constant. Get over to www.pc-gamers.net and signup for whitelisting and join the action! Then submit your youtube and streaming (twitch) channels to be implemented on PCGN.tv -

PCGN is rearing to go with this! Almanzo, I have sent you a PM. Are you still on board with this?

I am with a community called PCGN and we have the resources you need to pull this off. First, the server. Our private servers are nicely ran, whitelisted, and managed by admins who know what they're doing. We can add new assets to the map whether it's buildings (to make the raceway known) or it's vehicles to get everything setup and the cameras rolling in the helicopters. We do events like this which require knowledge of manipulating the database, then restoring it after the event to its default state with everybody having what they left off with. Second, streams! Nearly completed, PCGN.TV is exactly what you're looking for. This is where I host the community streamers and youtube archives. Check it out here. I can build a page with multiple streams on it in a wall. Chopper cameras can be all placed there for viewers to see every angle at once and maximize them at leisure. Another page can have the racers. Another page the chaos inducers, and so on. please visit us at www.pc-gamers.net and we can chat more about this on teamspeak!

The allowance and support of hosting private servers has both been a blessing and a curse. Legit players and admins alike now have the bliss DayZ provides at its core (no pun intended). However, there's also the influx of private servers with douchy admins, or they've changed the content drastically elminating the DayZ experience, or side chat has turned the game into Melrose Place for kiddies who need to spend more time with their mommies. This IS the time to shine with DayZ, and is a pivotal moment leading into the release of the standalone. With the release of our US 1872 private chernarus server over at PCGN, we've kept close tabs on these facets and observed the ongoing trends. We've managed to deny access to hackers, induce disinterest in douchy and whining wannabe players, and maintain a safe haven for legit members of the DayZ community at large. We are proud of this, and the support we've gotten for pursuing this venture speaks to its success. This is a call to arms for the ENTIRE DayZ community to band together and show continuous support for this groundbreaking game for the transition into the standalone's release. It can go 1 of 3 ways. 1. Hackers running rampant still, locked down restrictions or even worse ranked servers, children populating the servers, utterly destroying the next phase of what this game set out to be and provide to PC gamers 2. Douchy admins and self-entitled melodramatic nay-sayers inducing a shroud of unwanted haziness creating an experience not indicative of the DayZ experience 3. DayZ purity! Respectable servers, with an atmosphere of tactical survival gameplay with intense moments of suspence and heart racing firefights, wars between survivor groups, bandits trolling the road between elektro and cherno, merchants providing survival supplies at a cost for those focused on other tasks, and day by day, minute by minute pure and utter euphoric post-apocalyptic mayhem. PCGN does 3, we want 3 for the transition, and for 3 to remain the experience of DayZ. No rules, respect, suspense. A DayZ server's only requirements. Are you with us? PM me for details about joining a pure and legit "hive" of multiple private servers abiding by this vision of the DayZ experience.

Weekly seek and destroy missions are in the works alongside an end of the world treasure hunt for man kind's last stand against the infected in mid December. Sign up now at www.pc-gamers.net and apply for whitelisting, but that's not quite all it takes. Then you join the server and play!!!!! Don't forget that part.... and yes I'm patronizing some of you. PCGN's US 1872 Presents: Halloween Trick and Treat 2012
pcgnBobo posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Saturday, November, 3 2012 - 4pm - 8pm EST I woke up on the beach. “Where the hell am I?” Disoriented and cold, I began to remember a living horror. “Was it a dream?” In the distance, I could hear howling and screaming. I pinched myself and did not wake. I quickly came to realize this was reality. I was thrown into a survival situation and began to feel the burning desire to live deep within. “What do I need to do?” “Where should I go?” “Who can assist me?” I inventoried my equipment. “Man, I am in a hurt locker!” I noticed in the night time surf something floating. It’s a clear glass bottle with a cork in it and, “Wait?!”, there’s a message. The message read: “On this special night, only the tricky will be treated. If treasures you seek, follow the patch which you've mediated. Look to the coast and find what you been needin'. The paths between Cherno and Elektro will be filled the most. Be wary of course, or wind up bleedin'!” Find rare items on this night in the coastal main towns, but beware of the tricks PCGN staff may have set up or plotting against you LIVE. Rules: •Use empty backpacks and check in items at Sin the Merchan't Blue Ural when you wish to save them. •Items not checked in with Sin will be lost after the event is over. •No hacking •No Killing!!! This is an honor system. Do you disrespect or your character will be known and dismissed. •Server/game time 6pm - 10pm (dusk to dark) Things PCGN staff may be doing for tricks: •Fill a vehicle with flares for players to throw out on the streets at dark... light up the town! •Build campfires, use vehicle lights, chemlights. •Place bear traps around the treasures •bring hoards of zombies to treasure hunters •join the event if you want How to Participate: 1. join www.pc-gamers.net 2. Private Hive DayZmod Integration Project
pcgnBobo replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Which hive is accounting for the ability to cluster? For example, the official "hive" is a central database server that all public servers link up to in order to store data. I have been using Saintly config on our private server. Out of the box, it is designed to handle a single server linking up to it to store data. Now of course, in theory, we can point other servers to that single database for use. But how does it handle reads/writes from multiple sources concurrently? Does it make each connection attempt wait in line, as we've seen in the offical public configuration? I say cluster because neither the official or privates that I've seen and worked with makes use of a cluster environment. My thoughts are to not have a central cluster of database servers that all game servers point to with a dedicated box to direct the traffic efficiently to each individual db server. But rather to make use of all the private boxes out there clustering with each other over "the cloud". That's a fancy way of saying p2p, or over the internet. Don't let it fool you and get you all giddy with excitement over buzzwords. I have NOT achieved this and do not have all the knowledge and skills to do it. But I see this solution solving many problems from performance, to security, to features (ie. persistence between private servers). Bandwith being the only real concern here, but nowadays most hosts are fast enough for this and in/out data limits are not so low to keep an eye on them, while most are unlimited. What do I have to contribute? a vision, facilitation skills, big picture understanding What do I need to fabricate a contribution? a development team, resources, and more than 24 hours in a single day @rocket and dayz dev team - where do we stand with this "Project"?
