    Who's playing guitar in Cherno???

Well, Rocket just needs to add a guitar so we can sit around our campfires and chill like that to some soulful tunes. :)
  3. Well, I don't agree AT ALL with no starting weapon, but hey, that's up to Rocket and not me. I've learned to adapt, as everyone will. But that doesn't change the fact that it's still, more often than not, an extremely boring and painstakingly sloooow process looking for a weapon when you first start sometimes--especially when you don't have the luck to find one right off in your immediate area, and/or take damage from zombies (or a killer door frame) whilst looking, causing you to break your leg. Then, yeah, it's crawl time for what feels like forever (unless you just hit respawn to get a fresh start and be done with the unnecessary frustration). And all of this is only compounded when it's nighttime--and we're talkin' DayZ's Carl Sagan black hole nighttime. Anyway, realism or not, "hardcore" or not, anti-game (whatever that means) or not, I don't much care for the no start weapon thing, myself. (Like it or lump it, haters.)

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Starting to look that way. Was really hoping the update would come in time for the weekend (the only time my friends and I have to play), but oh well. We'll live, I guess.

If you're including me in that' date=' I wasn't really (though certainly will if I want to). Just replying to someone else's comment insinuating that it has somehow helped cut down on DM in the game. I can deal with it either way, so no skin off my nose, but thinking it truly fixed much of a perceived issue with rampant DM is misguided, IMO, and that's what I was saying. That said: yeah, I think you need to start with a mak again. It's silly. There, I said it. And good for Rocket. I don't personally agree with the choice, but that aside, he does require feedback from players at this alpha stage (and welcomes it!), so yeah, people are gonna keep expressing opinions. And that's how it should be. Hey, he's actually made statements about how after he makes changes or adds stuff, he watches to see the reactions and opinions of the majority, so he knows what works and what doesn't, so yeah, expressing opinions here DOES count for something and DOES help shape the future of the game. So people should keep doing it. Ah, OK :)... but that's not at all how Rocket feels about continued player feedback, you can trust me on that. So, no, people should keep expressing their concerns and wishes for the mod. No reason to go "play something else" if you love DayZ yet still want to see it improved. I'm sure fellow grown-ups will agree.

I agree that the heart of this mod/game is multiplayer and that dynamic and true human randomness just can't be simulated, so Rocket's totally right about that being the game's main focus and power. It definitely is. However, it would be kinda' cool (someday, certainly not a priority right now) if there was some sort of single-player "practice" mode, where the "players" were AI-controlled and preprogrammed with some randomness as far as their aggression and stuff goes (some would be shy and peaceful, some want to team up, and some--the larger portion? heh--would just be out-and-out bandit jerks like you have in the current game). Just a practice mode like most other games have, where you can at least get your feet wet a bit with AI, and learn the inventory systems and weapons, etc., before jumping online. I could see it as a useful option for new players down the road.

I've actually thought several times that this landscape would make for a perfect deer hunting game (or mini-game, as it were, within DayZ). So yeah, I say add the deer, Rocket! :)

Cool beans, man. Everyone's got their own opinions and taste. But you failed to change mine... I'd still prefer a weapon at spawn and actually feel it's utterly ridiculous without one. But hey, that's me.

    I agree!

What weapon was underwhelming to you?

Quite honestly, almost all of them. Maybe it's just due to alpha and all, but IMO, most of the models themselves (with a couple of exceptions) look too small and skinny and just don't feel like they have any "heft" or weight to them, graphically. Also the weapon sounds are just not beefy enough! Makes the guns feel even more wimpy. Way too quiet.
  12. LastManOnEarth

    Door sounds

Agreed and I've thought that to myself many times whilst playing. Even Minecraft has door sounds! Would be really creepy, too. I'm assuming it's a given eventually, though.
  13. Ha, good job! I do the same exact thing. Love it. Also fun to actually hide and catch them in the act of placing it and jump out and kill them and yell NO MOAR WIRE FENCES!!!! :D

I wholeheartedly agree! Nothing but frustration and just crawl' date=' crawl, CRAWL (forever), sometimes for hours at a time when you're just not having any luck finding something! Reeeeally slows down the early part of the game, and I mean, it's just [i']not fun AT ALL. Makes no sense. You need at least a pistol to start, man. I can do without food, water, heck, even morphine (though that's kind of silly, too, with the amount of broken legs in this game) when starting, but you need to be able to at least defend yourself a little bit on the beach (and off) when you first start foraging for supplies. Also, there are situations like this: Last night I spawn in at Kamenka and run--no, CRAWL--over to check a small building near the beach and I had to stop to let a nearby zombie pass. All of a sudden here comes some jerk leading a zombie train right by me, so as they pass I jump up and run the opposite direction and hit the dirt around the front of the building where I'm hoping I'm safe and out of eyesight, but no, of course the dude comes running back out of nowhere and runs right up to where I'm laying in the grass next to a wall, and the zombies all switch off on ME and start wailing on my back. So now I'm the one running around like an idiot, with all the zombies he aggro'd, plus some new ones I picked up by running around looking for a large open building or house! I tried to run them all back to him, but by now the fool was off leisurely swimming in the ocean and just watching (and probably laughing). Anyway, I was soon overwhelmed and killed. But if I'd have just had a stupid pistol I'd have been fine or at least stood some kind of a chance! First thing I would have done, actually, was shoot that tard in the face like he deserved, but, I was more at his mercy somehow, with absolutely no recourse or defense, and junk like that should never happen. Starting without a weapon is no fun at all. For what it's worth, the two other friends I was playing with (one was new) thought the same thing and found it very frustrating (not to mention boring) just like I did. I hope to god this gets changed.

True, but for my part, they deny me nothing! I always still get in. And usually make it a point to dismantle their blockades. :D But I know a lot of people just don't want the hassle so they instantly move on (in which case, the terrorists win).

Wait, DayZ has fog?? If so, news to me! :) Or is it something that's coming soon? I'm seriously wondering. I mean, I've seen like distance draw type fog on the horizon, but never thick enough to where it really seemed like an actual weather effect type of real "fog" that I was inside of and had to deal with in any way. Maybe it's due to my older graphics card? Or is a thicker, more atmospheric fog actually coming to the game? Because I do think it'd be really creepy and awesome to have a more thick, rolling type of random fog effect here and there! Imagine walking through fog-shrouded woods at sunrise or sunset. Now that would be absolutely epic.

Is 3rd person really going away?

I certainly hope it goes away, personally. 3rd person is so arcade-y to me. 1st person is way more intense and realistic--which is supposed to be a large feature of the mod after all; realism. Plus, yeah, 1st person doesn't let you "cheat" around corners and over rooftops like 3rd person does. :dodgy:
