Hi, hopefully someone can give me some advice here, does Dayz just use operation Arrowhead, or does it require ARMA 2 as well? I bought ARMA2 as a stand alone DVD, and then have Purchased OA, BF, PMC through steam. I'm thinking of building a RAID 0 partition and then moving my Steam folder to it, and then adding 4GB of ram to fancyCache off the new partition. A - would this work? B - would I also need to move ARMA2 to the same partition as well? cheers in advance..

advice about Raid 0 / FancyCache
irl-calibre replied to irl-calibre's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Cheers for moving this Legacy, as it wasn't a problem with DayZ per se, I avoided posting it here and went OT instead. OK, good to know that I will need to make a partition big enough to hold all AMRA2 data on it. I read the Steam guild on moving the steam folder to another drive and it all seems straight forward enough, shouldn't be a problem with ARMA 2 either.. (haha - famous last words!!) as its a rainy Saturday afternoon here I can experiment with the new Partiton and fancyCache and see what happens.. thanks for the info.. -
If i've checked and know for a fact DC works on the server and "people" no talk / type? I just treat them as Bots and pull the trigger, shrug my shoulders and walk on. who cares?

My own stupidity!! tonight for instance I was prone on the mezzanine floor walkway in one of those big corrogated sheds, what did I do? press "V" instead of "c", stood up, threw my leg over the handrail, and fell to the floor knocking myself unconscious & breaking my legs, not to mention the horde of aggroed Z's that were on the bottom floor... you have to laugh really..

yeah, plus one'd on the head torch, would solve the problem of seeing in the dark when you turn your head & means you could also equip a pistol... simples... as obvious as the nose on your face.
-
the simple answer is just to be able to holster your sidearm, and do away with this nonsense of having to store your pistol in your backback so you can use a torch / flashlight. You should be able to run around with nothing in your hands at all. an added asides to this is, it might ease the tension in PvP encounters. & also gives the player the ability to raise their arms above their head and keep them there, unlike when you try to do it with a pistol in your hand. The pistol / flashlight dynamic is borked imo, hideous tbh.. I suggest that a "holster" is added to loot for the tool belt that the pistol can be placed in, jobs a good 'un..

So I was wondering is there anyway to edit a .cfg file so that when I am in the games server browser the interface size is set to large, but automatically switches to very small when the game loads? as it is I have to wait for the game to load, then disconnect back to the server lobby, adjust interface size from large to V'small and reload again into the server. I have had a hunt about, but can't find a solution. cheers..

I guess not then, eh?

I agree, I was also going to suggest at night when I turn my head to look around me, would be nice if the beam of the torch followed my head movements so I could actually see! it's a bit silly the way it stays static pointing to the front.

i've been monitoring my GTX680 & i've noticed that when my frames collapse (namely in around large towns) i've also noticed that my gpu usage also goes down - it never uses more than 60% anyways, but I dunno, i'm no computer expert, but surely GPU usage should be going up when there is more work for it to be doing, rather than going down. dunno if this is a fault with the game engine, or with the video drivers for the gpu, I dunno why mu GPU aint working harder, but even playing at 60fps the game feels laggy and is a nightmare when it drops to low 40's (along with GPU usage)..

I agree.. too whoever killed me in Devils Castle - left my character sitting down! as I had to go and deal with realiity, come back 5 minutes later and i'm dead, whoever killed me, you're a total fucking wanker tbf...

The Big Thank You thread!!
irl-calibre replied to irl-calibre's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
nice one trimethylxanthine .. that's the general idea of this thread, for people to give thanks to those strangers who perform random acts of kindness that kept them alive in & in the fight. as for you Ivanuvo, run quick mate I think I see a goat trying to cross your bridge.. -
A simple answer to the bandit issue once and for all.
irl-calibre replied to ErwinRumble's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah, I know.. the transformation to bandit is too sudden, if there were different skins along the way to flat out banditry? like depending on number of survivours killed ending up with necklesses of human ears around their necks so no mistake could be made about their intentions, then it would be sweet.. of course redeeming acts would bring a person back down the skins to looking like a normal survivour. -
Is it ok to use Rocco's face mod pack with Dayz? if so could someone explain to me how to get it to run? it works grand with OA no problem, but i've tried adding the -mod=@RoccoFaces prompt to the command line of the Dayz launch desktop icon, but it doesn't seem to add the faces to to character set up in game. cheers..
-
perfect.. cheers Sherlock

A simple answer to the bandit issue once and for all.
irl-calibre replied to ErwinRumble's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem isn't the Bandits per se, it's distinguishing a normal survivour from a sociopathic Survivour is the problem.. Solution - bandits have bandit skins, survivours who behave like Bandits incur some kind of Forfeit. everyone is happy.. non? -
great idea for a rain poncho! I was getting very bored sitting in a house yesterday for over 20 minutes doing nada - just chatting in text, because my tempval was low & I couldn't go outside.. thankfully someone in text suggested just leaving the server to find another that wasn't raining.. When your gaming time is somewhat limited idealy you don't want to spend it sitting looking out a window at a dreary wet landscape for hours on end, felt too much like childhood holidays in Donegal.

A new player's review (WARNING: Rampant whining ahead)
irl-calibre replied to Tvayumat's topic in New Player Discussion
hey, I just shared the warmth of a fire & some tasty goat with two other survivours - exchanged salute's with a couple of others... head west, civilisation seems to still exist out in the wilderness.. -
So I see some servers running different Beta versions Of A2 to play Dayz with, & i'm just wondering whats the best version to use as there seems to be quite a few different Beta versions to choose from..

You need to be able to "lose" zombies...
irl-calibre replied to kurozael's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
just make them much, much more responsive to flares on the ground, they should become mesmerised by them completely & forget to chase humans - specially given how fast they respawn, it's a nightmare trying to scavenge for essential items given the rate as it is.. -
For those who complain about/dislike temperature
irl-calibre replied to Addest's topic in New Player Discussion
maybe it's time to start leaving the odd non-broken bottle of Whiskey about the place for a wee nip to bring the ol' body temp back up again when caught outside on a cold, rainy night! sure the blurry vision is allready in game, and thats the very reason we invented it for in the first place ;)
