    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

Fucking sick and tired of people saying this. EVERYONE KNOWS DAYZ IS IN ALPHA. Does that mean hackers, scripters, and bugs shouldn't bother us? Hell no. I gaurantee the first thing that comes out of your mouth when you die to a hacker isn't "Oop, DayZ is in Alpha. Better go blow someone before I start ranting". Sure it might be a mod, but when people wait, wait, wait some more, wait a little bit longer, get promised updates that take forever, they start to get a little edgy. Also, you can assure people that you'll do something all you want. Does that mean it's going to happen? Nope. They might manage to rid the game of hackers completely, but so far it doesn't look like they're reaching that goal any time soon.

Why geared up players are hard to kill

More often than not, after they get hit and they finally process what has happened, the death has been settled. You can log in on another server, but you might bleed out and die. Most of the time the body will be gone on the server they hop to, as well as the one you shot them on. I've experienced this after getting sniped as a freshspawn, I really didn't want to run back so I tried it. The results weren't in either of our favors. I feel that it's mostly something people do because they know 100% you're going for their loot, and they don't want you to have it.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

If it comes back and it's a problem for you, just remove it again. I've done it multiple times and it's never a hassle.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

I vote YES to remove it, but ever since I saw this post I set out to see if it was truly difficult (I wasn't going to give up after a minute of trying) I had run into barbed wire countless times, and since there wasn't any immediate removal I would just give up. Some time after this I realized that you could remove it, and I happened to run into barbed wire protecting a hacker's camp. After a long ten minutes of seeing the Remove Wire (CAT1) message and then having it vanish, I finally realized where the message was coming from. It's no secret, but to people who are having trouble, please read this: Step 1. Make sure you have a toolbox Step 2. Locate the metal bars that support the barbed wire (the 2 bars in the center work best) Step 3. Look straight at them. You can either aim down sights, look at the bottom of the bar in first person, or put your hipfire aimer on them in third person. Step 4. After being prompted with the message, click remove. Shazam, wire is gone. I have tested this many many times and have succeeded every time. Now I can run around and remove wire for the sake of fresh spawns, and it feels good to know that you can remove this unavoidable griefing tool. I used to remove barb wire in 5 minutes, now I do it in 5 seconds (if the spot is being troublesome) Hope this helps anyone for the time being!

Why geared up players are hard to kill

This. I remember countersniping a guy up on Dobryy who decided to place his ghillie-body upon the sandy white side of the mountain like a complete dumbass. After shooting an AS50 right next to the lobe of his ear, he (I assume) immediately gained a shocked status, and aborted. Seeing his body go limp I thought he had died, but instead he had actually just gone limp from the server-disconnection glitch (makes you look like you died and sank, when in reality you didn't), so I sent my buddy with nothing but an AKM to go loot the body. The jackass decided to log back in, and he got his shock to 10 minute unconsciousness punishment. As his BFF was running away from someone else on Dobryy, trying to get an opportunity to Epi-Pen him, my buddy got up there and soon realized he had actually just been out of it. A spinal tap from an AKM while the idiot couldn't see what was going on was all he needed. The loot was oh so sweet ^_^

    bandits are bad

Being a bandit is great.I just absolutely love the fact that after you kill so many people, you get used to their attempts/strategies for first time player combat. The mistakes and the reactions they have to their buddies getting dropped is a ball; it's even better when they didn't see it coming. Breaking legs with AS50s unexpectedly, doming someone while looting, hiding as I wait for an idiot to run into my Satchel trap within a loothouse. #thelife

    global ban for no reason

Any possibility you've fallen for those key-theft deals..? If so, there's probably someone that has burned that key to test out their scripts 'n' stuff. If not, you must likely were running a script. Never seen anyone get banned out of nowhere.

    Discriminative loot spawn

You just can't do that. Even if the game is supposed to be difficult, you can't just make a weapon impossible to find because you want everyone to be under a hardship. This game isn't for MLG PR0 ERMERGERDs in my opinion, it's pretty casual. I do strategize, make my moves with caution, and keep necessities in mind, and it's really not that difficult to pull off. I hope you don't think the concept of a scenario like sneaking up behind a sniper on Dobryy is difficult, or ambushing random's in a vehicle as they make their rounds. Most of this game requires common knowledge; you drive around honking horns or running around guns blazing, you'll become the center of attention. Take the backroads and creep ever so slowly, and you'll just be another shadow. Back to the main point though. You can't really say how rare/common guns should be, seeing as there is no time frame of how long the apocalypse has been going on. I can understand how extremely rare an M4 would be after 10 or so years (just the bullets would be a god-given gift). If DayZ is supposed to be immediately after, of course there will be a group of rifles in military barracks or places like firestations. I don't think the guns are too common, honestly. You find a makarov just about every time you go into a schoolhouse, but it's not like it's overpowering. Guns in firestations or barracks seem rare to me, I end up getting excited after finding one even if I'm completely geared up and I have no need for it.
  9. Usually ALT-F4ing will save you in the face of danger, but sometimes you'll have the backlash of shock-logging (being unconscious for about 10 minutes after logging) I've had points where I'll accidently run off a building due to butter-legging it, and most of the time ALT-F4ing will return me back or revert me back give or take a couple seconds. ALT-F4ing is mostly like a server restart; whenever it happens you'll get rolled back a good minute or so. I've done this in the face of hackers using the Puppet Master or just attempting to shoot the shit out of me after teleporting. I actually got to do this yesterday when I encountered a puppet master. I lost control of my player and the hacker was able to make every move from my player. When he turned his head, I turned mine, when he ran in place, I kept moving. When he opened his inventory, he accessed mine. He was basically a damn parasite. ALT-F4ing helps against these guys before they drop too much of your stuff, or right before they manage to run you off a building.

    DayZ Stories

Not sure whether to be pissed or laughing silly. I was chilling at Elektro by myself, getting some basic food and drink on a low populated server when I hear zombies clammering to tear into someone. I hear the sound of a Ural honk ring out, I guess these guys thought they were safe on this low populated server. I see them coming up over the tiny hill from Drakon into Elektro. I watch and wait from the road near it, concealed. Once their tires hit the dirt the speed drops, and I see my opportunity. I put about 5 M107s into the driver, and he collapses in a pile of blood and ghillie in the road. His budy parkours out of the back, only to dive into my M107 bullet. I call my friends up and get them to join me, and after a while we eventually take off. We set out for Berezino, and on the way found the van at the gas station near Nizhnoye. Fixed it up with some parts at the local factory, and then left the Ural behind. After heading towards Berezino, we get satcheled. Of course we just left the gear behind.. and logged into another random server 3 hours later wanting to get stuff back After staying on that server for a while, a hacker teleported in a vehicle to me and started picking everyone up. He then teleported us to the Debug Plains where hackers had a massive camp set up, and he told us to loot everything. After looting for a bit, we all started telling our stories of what we were doing. The hacker got his chance to speak, and after his speech I was completely blown away. He told us the story about how he blew three people in a van up, about a few hours ago. He thought it was hilarious, and decided to come to a random server later that day to help some people out instead of harm them. I sat there in disbelief, and eventually got around to telling him that I was the driver of that van. We both LOL'd and continued to loot the camps. After a bit, he delivered me back in Elektro where I was looting.

    DayZ Stories

Killed scrubs on Dobryy and made a nice pit (hid their bodies) as punishment for their douchebaggery and sweet sweet loot. Pretty basic story, but after doing it for an hour or so, some odd things started coming into play. Me and my buddies were camping at the Elektro hospital, and being up there we've got one of the top vantage points within the city. After some time we saw a camo and ghillie come in behind us, both being extremely cautious as to where we were (even though we had not shown ourselves). They creeped ever closer, and once the opportunity presented itself, I poured AS50 rounds into the camo. As he fell to the ground in an attempt to flee, his ghillie buddy decided to stealth mode. We lost track of him, but he wasn't gone just yet. We saw him looking up at the hospital and then crouch down. A red smoke appeared on the roof, and as we were questioning what was happening, a mortar strike (yes mortars) opened fire on the roof. Lul #elektro

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

This topic is still open ._.? Didn't he say we only had a few hours to decide, and this thread was posted September 6th? My vote is yes, it's the most annoying shit in the game. If you don't want to just remove it, make it easier to take down. I think I speak for everyone when I say no one wants to get out their magnifying glass and search for the molecular fault in the wire that will allow us to use our tools without getting smited by the almighty Wire God.
  13. I've seen a lot of people talk about using keys to get into cars, and I don't think it's really a good idea at all. DayZ is trying to be as real as possible, but doing small things like this is just taking it way too far. What if someone stumbles upon a fresh car without wheels, is unable to fix it, so they just take the car keys and dash? Each car would have to have it's own unique set of keys (which will most likely never happen). What happens when someone with a jingly key ring stumbles upon a camp? They didn't find the vehicles originally, but they have the slick path to stealing the vehicles. You could still jack them without the keys, but it would be easier if you had the ring of em. I can just imagine the trolling.. A random and his bud find the almighty car camp. The owners of the camp leave the car keys in the ignition because it would require quite the amount of bagspace to carry all those keys. The randoms decide that their fresh and empty backpacks will be more than enough to hold all those shiny keys, so they take them and drive off in a vehicle of choice. Owners come back, and now they have the only vehicles in the server, and the location of their keys are beyond them. Besides, games like Battlefield don't require you to have keys for vehicles. I realize BF isn't trying to be as realistic as DayZ, just trying to make some sort of relation.
  14. I do like the idea. Personally I think some of it goes into major detail. What you are suggesting is a completely realistic scenario. This is what a game like DayZ should be, but if that is done I feel that some players might not want to play at all. The problem I would have is probably the brutal dismemberment or major repercussions of getting shot. Yes yes, getting shot in real life will do a massive amount of trauma to you, but in a game I don't think it should be as extreme. I'm not saying this simply because I don't like the idea, but because of how tiresome some firefights would get. Sure there are points where you can engage an enemy and walk away untouched, but it could become problematic when little resistance is given and a lot of damage is done. For example, you sneak up on a player and you open fire. Before you deliver the killing blow, they start firing rounds at you in panic. One of them clips your arm and severs your limb, which means game over for you. The other player did die, but you gave up your life to the hands of a lucky bullet. Once again, I completely understand that the outcome in real life would be just that, but I think in something like a game it would just become too tiresome. At DayZ's current state, you get in a fight, and whoever has the least amount of bullet holes gets to grab the loot. Even though this may seem unrealistic, it might be the only way some players can deal with the game.

    DayZ Single Player Possibility

I'm not sure if anyone has made a post like this, the only thing I found when searching were flame wars over perma-death.. The other day I got in a discussion with someone about weapons. After a while it turned to a sort of apocalyptic convo. We were talking about people looting other people because they think shit's going down, then those looters run into people who have guns, and those people with guns start to utilize them.. So on and so forth Anyways, that convo made me question. Ever wander how Chernarus came to what it is now? We know that Chernarus has been engulfed by a zombie outbreak, but what was it like before? The idea I propose is a sort of 'Sim' for the start of Chernarus. It would start off just as we do now; we spawn somewhere along the land. Whenever a save is started, you could possibly spawn anywhere in Chernarus (not just limited to the coast) and will be any random personality or character of that area. Upon the world starting, one individual (or small group) besides you is selected to begin the infection. You will not know where this person is; they could be your next door neighbor or across Chernarus. Having said this, here are the main attributes that IMHO would do well: -No debug monitor. The amount of infected is random, and if you choose to travel, you might just stumble upon a city of the dead (it may help to add a low difficulty setting with a debug monitor, telling you how many infected roam the world at any given time, optional) -Looters, Bandits and Heroes. What you choose to be is up to you, but the people surrounding you might not be so sound. This can possibly include people who will shoot on site, be edgy, or be willing to help out another survivor (if you choose to take the help :P) -Dialogue. Whenever you are confronted or confront someone, your words can help you for the better or worse. -Partners. Whether it be in crime or in salvation, you can (with all the right words) become a friend of someone and either ravage the land or look for others in need. Your partners will also show signs of hunger, thirst, or beginning of an infection. An infected character in your group could quite possibly infect the others. You can direct these people into stealth or a 'guns blazing' act, a cross country travel, or a loot run (many more options are a possibility) -End game (debating) So far I haven't really come to any conclusion of how it would end, it would probably be more of a record setting playthrough. The game wouldn't end once everyone else is infected though, for this would make the game quite interesting. -Wider variety of medications. It is possible to run into crazy people, or people who are beginning to turn. There could be something like an antidote or cure, and medications for mental illnesses. -Random resistance. As the infection spreads, the farmers, the military, and the everyday pedestrians will take out their rifles and fight back against the dead. The outcome is completely random. -Wider variety of zombies. Some zombies can be a pistol shot to the leg, and others and be a buckshot to the chest. The strength/speed/vitality of all zombies can vary, would make for interesting zombie encounters, instead of the usual boring 'Dome = Dead' Attempting to expand list. Taking suggestions. Please do tell me if something feels right or wrong (something might have an unsensible outcome) Hope you guys support, I didn't just post this because it was a scenario I thought of in 3 minutes :P

    Blood icon --> blood/health bar

I've got to agree with that. Even though the game is supposed to be realistic, I think it should have that one thing from keeping it at that point (besides certain world reactions/actions you perform that already are unrealistic). I've also grown pretty attached to the debug, it lets me confirm headshots so I know when to yell "BOOM HEADSHOT" :P
  17. Benderz of Hell

Helicopter crashes, do they ruin the intensity?

From personal experience the choppers aren't that common. I've had points where I grab a vehicle with some buddies and drive up and down the north, and we usually find a crash site whenever we least expect it. Overall we've stopped hunting because we know we can just find guns on newbz with lootz, but when we were hunting crashes we usually came up empty handed. It's always exciting to be skulking around Gorka, refueling your vehicle, then seeing those pilot zombies walking around a mass of metal in a field. If they were any more rare, it would really make for a grueling task to find them. Everyone knows where they can be found, but it's always the question of "Where will they be this time?" I can relate to finding crash sites that have always been looted, sometimes I find them and I have no need for the guns. It's still pretty exciting to find one though IMHO.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

Not saying I'm rushing them in any way to release the standalone, it's just that content release or updating has been extremely slow. They recently updated artifacts which was nice, but besides that, what has been a memorable update since July..?

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

These bans don't really seem to be false, from what I've heard it's usually just hackers trying to cause an uproar for a reason to be unbanned (i.e. a lot of bitching about scripted guns, when the only people to get banned are the ones that scripted them). You're probably going to be waiting a while, this game really doesn't seem like it's going standalone any time soon. I bought Arma II in July and I've only seen very minimal updates (which IMHO is really sad), so I wouldn't expect anything to happen quicker when the game goes solo. To anyone else reading this, don't bother quoting me saying "ERMERGERD ALPHER VERSION" because I don't really give a damn. The development has been depressingly slow, and everyone knows it.

Hey if you get a chance I'd ask that you do the same.. damn hacker teleported me out quite far, and it looks like admins no longer help you with this stuff.
