What you have to do is, first go to the gear menu, and drop your own backpack with everything in it. Then you grab the backpack from the dead guy. After that, you open your backpack on the ground again to move your stuff from your old to your new backpack!

I try always to play on NL3, because it has a great connection for me personally. And being the friendly survivor, I would love to set up a camp together with you and other people! Btw: What is the TS exactly, you said to hop on for any questions :P -
I had this as well, but then I downloaded the "Six Launcher", You can find it here on the forums, it automatically updates your DayZ and it has a server favourites list (very handy), But most importantly, it fixed those bugs for me. if you don't feel like installing all this you could also go to your steam libray, rightclick ArmA and select run Combined Operations. Don't know for sure if that works.
