    Dat beta patch

    Continuing my never ending series of issues with the beta patch, I am unable to update beyond version 94209. No matter how many different places I download the patch from I always end up with the same result - that is, absolutely fuck all. This game has become such a clusterfuck to even get working. Any help?

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

    Well, there goes the entire download database. derp

    Game is unplayable

    Kinda jumpin' the gun there. Apartment buildings sometimes have sidearms; barns often have double barreled shotguns; supermarkets, on occasion, will spawn a sidearm or a Lee Enfield; military bases (Balota being the closest one to a new player spawn point) have better weapons - at Balota I once found an M16 that I used for roughly two weeks. At the Northwest airfield I've found M4 CCOs, .50 cals, DMRs, SAWs, etc., etc., etc.

    Few Weeks In: Observations

    Not all skins support backpacks Oh, fair game. Still, more do than we currently have.

    Few Weeks In: Observations

    I think some of you need to chill the fuck out. I agree about the bandit skin and the helicopters, I'm ambivalent about sidechat. Didn't hate it, don't miss it. I want a system, though, where I can choose what I wear. This game has hundreds of skins - many of them far more "authentic" and suited to this kind of mod, and we're all forced to use one skin (with the exception of the Farmer John half-retarded looking camo skin and the ghillie suit), and it just confuses the living tits out of me.

    Remove barbed wire

    I've tried and I've tried, but I can't think of a single genuinely useful purpose for barbed wire. Sure, you can argue that it can be used to funnel players into the direction that you want to gun them down, but here's the thing: that is rarely how it is used. Primarily, barbed wire is used to grief other players; setting it up in a way that it's impossible to enter a lootable building. Is there any real reason to keep this shit around?

    Inventory with two guns... how?

    What other folks have said, basically. Make sure you: a) have room for your current primary and its mags in your backpack (10 slots for the primary, then however many mags) b) have room for the other primary and its mag in your active inventory Then just open up your backpack and move the second primary into your active inventory. It's still risky business, with no guarantee not to flip out and ditch one of your guns into the void, but it's the only way to do it.

    How is this fun?

    This game isn't fun. At all. It has literally no redeeming features or entertaining facets. All 434,480 of us were tricked into playing it and we rue the day that we spent thirty whole dollars (I can't eat now!) on ArmA II - especially since ArmA II is no fun on its own, and has absolutely no other mods to play besides DayZ. All in all this is very depressing!

    Hackers have ruined DayZ

    Boo-fuckin'-hoo. say what you want. its the truth... Listen' date=' if you can't handle getting killed, you need to [i']not play video games at all. What I do is another facet of the game. I also spend a good portion of my time doing the whole "survival" thing, but fuck it, I like pretending this is The Most Dangerous Game. Both zombies and survival have lost their challenge, to me; now I turn to hunting humans. It is much more thrilling. Either way, I'm another obstacle you have to avoid or tackle, just like starvation, dehydration, or zombies. Now stop weeping the bitter tears of a man too trusting, and go kill somebody. Maybe me.

    My fail attempt at being a bandit...

    If you plan on murdering more people, let me offer you a few tips: 1) This is less of a tip and more of a statement - I'm actually amazed that you managed to get that kind of gear together with as little actual skill as you seem to have. I mean, no offense, you yourself acknowledged how terrible you are - so it's a bit awe inspiring that you stumbled upon an Alice pack and a DMR. 2) This one's an actual tip - lead your target. If you have to take a shot on a moving object - which, for the record, is incredibly inadvisable (he has to stop eventually; that's when you kill him) - fire in front of him. There's no real way to know exactly where to shoot; you just have to practice and get a feel for it. That's what the single player Armory is for. 3) Awareness/reconnaissance. Keep your eyes on your surroundings at all times; from what I could tell, it wasn't another sniper that killed you. It was somebody that had gotten onto the room from another ladder and shot you with what sounded like a revolver (I could be completely wrong about that, though). Your eyes shouldn't lock on one spot and you shouldn't focus on anything that you aren't about to murder. Scan, scan, scan. You also need to watch your "prey" for a bit longer before taking a shot - you should know if he's alone or not, where he's going, what he's doing, etc. 4) Don't reload like that. You're not reloading like you do in, say, Max Payne or Call of Duty; the magazines track a specific amount of bullets, so reloading a DMR mag with 17 rounds in it only exchanges that mag for another mag with 20 in it. It'll be a very nasty shock when you think you have another full mag to fall back on and you wind up with a mag that actually only has two rounds in it. 5) Don't hunt for players in the middle of the biggest DM-fest town in the game. Pick a spot from a distance - this should be especially easy since the DMR is effective at around eight hundred meters - and lay on your belly in the brush, preferably at a tree line. Anyway, good hunting, you gigantic noob, you.

    Remove barbed wire

    Please don't post if you don't know what you are talking about. What? How did they not know what they were talking about? Find a toolbox and remove the barbed wires. Nothing to it. Except they don't seem to spawn anymore. I mean, yeah, if somebody put the wire down it stands to reason that they found a toolbox. I've found three DMRS, two FALs, an M27, a Barrett, and a few other things since 1.7.0, but not a single toolbox. Something slightly more common to cut the wire might be nice. Or just removing it entirely since, again, I haven't heard a single reason that it's even genuinely useful (unless "so I can keep being a douchebag" is an excuse, I guess).

    Remove barbed wire

    This does make a lot of sense. I'm just very tired of being unable to enter a building that I know will have decent loot because somebody has decided to block every single exit with ten lines of barbed wire.

    Body Armor/ Kevlar

    This' date=' and another post one or two before it, amaze me. No, you are completely wrong. Kevlar/vests worn in the field stop small arms (pistols, assault rifles, etc.) from around 20-30 feet, obviously with varying effectiveness. When you're hit, there's still serious impact damage done to your body - ranging from broken ribs to internal bleeding - but they can absolutely stop a bullet from penetrating your body. [b']EDIT: Just so that we don't have to spend three pages debating this: "A ballistic vest, bulletproof vest or bullet-resistant vest is an item of personal armor that helps absorb the impact from firearm-fired projectiles and shrapnel from explosions, and is worn on the torso. Soft vests are made from many layers of woven or laminated fibers and can be capable of protecting the wearer from small-caliber handgun and shotgun projectiles, and small fragments from explosives such as hand grenades. Metal or ceramic plates can be used with a soft vest, providing additional protection from rifle rounds, and metallic components or tightly woven fiber layers can give soft armor resistance to stab and slash attacks from knives and similar close-quarter weapons. Soft vests are commonly worn by police forces, private citizens, security guards, and bodyguards, whereas hard-plate reinforced vests are mainly worn by combat soldiers, police tactical units, and hostage rescue teams. Modern body armor may combine a ballistic vest with other items of protective clothing, such as a combat helmet. Vests intended for police and military use may also include ballistic shoulder and side protection armor components, and bomb disposal officers wear heavy armor and helmets with face visors and spine protection." As for helmets, many modern combat helmets have interwoven kevlar/twaron protection - which means, as stated before, they're more resistant to lower caliber bullets, such as those used in shotgun pellets and handguns. They're not that useful, but they're a lot more useful than no helmet at all.

    Body Armor/ Kevlar

    Are you serious? First of all, nobody really cares if you play this mod or not. Second of all, kevlar/body armor is an actual, common facet of military life. In almost every country, soldiers wear body armor with their BDUs. There are three separate military bases in-game, so while body armor would be pretty damn rare, it would still definitely exist. Maybe a bit more common than a ghillie suit.

    Body Armor/ Kevlar

    Well, that would make sense, considering we're all already wearing body armor anyway. For some reason.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

    That'd be nice, since I've been having indescribably bad framerate issues since anything past 1.7.1.
  20. John (DayZ)

    My PC can't handle DayZ at all?

    Well, brother, your specs are pretty lackluster to begin with (no offense intended, I had to work my ass off for quite a while to get the rig I've got now), but your problem may not simply be your computer. As of the most recent version, my framerate is absolutely terrible - it's gone from 40-45, solid, to about 15-20, unless I drop the graphics all the way to Very Low. However, I'm thinking this might be some absurd side-effect of the beta patch - you see, my single player even seems to be running a bit sluggishly. DayZ makes absolutely no modification to anything not DayZ, so the only explanation that I can come up with is that the most recent version of the beta patch has somehow screwed me. Honestly, though, I've barely played the mod since 1.7.1. Each new update seems to break the game even further, and the beta patch is absolute, useless rubbish.

    US Navy {SEALs}

    LOL, looks like he 203'd you after just spawning - and very far away from the coast, no less. Is the grenade launcher even in the game? I'm fairly certain it's not. At any rate, yeah, I'm interested in joining. Problem is, my play time is severely limited - I work 5 days a week (sometimes 6), at least 8 hours a day, some times 10, up to 12.. Basically I have about 3 free hours a weekday (generally 2 to 5), and my weekends are either spent on the computer or out with friends. I've got a week's break coming up week after next, but otherwise, that incredibly demanding schedule is rock solid. Protip: if you just got out of high school, GO TO COLLEGE. Or ENLIST. DO NOT WORK IN A FACTORY. The money is fantastic, but your entire life will be work. You'll work twelve hours, you'll come home, sleep seven, dream about work while you sleep, wake up, GO RIGHT BACK TO WORK. It is AWFUL. ... I'm buying a new guitar, though! Wee!

    US Navy {SEALs}

    That's pretty cool. So out of curiosity, are you folks European? I assume the server you play on is, but I was wondering why you'd take an American SOF unit's tag as your group name if you're not American.
