Military simulator =/= military character. It's never stated anywhere that, in DayZ, our little avatars are former soldiers (and, frankly, 500,000 ex-military types being marooned on a 220 square kilometer island seems a little fishy anyway). Also, I do agree that matches are retardedly hard to find. That isn't to say that they don't spawn, or that I can't find them - I'm just saying that the amount of effort I have to put forth to find a box of Goddamn matches does not make any sense.

Hey, thanks! Also, I made your image link work by quoting it. Neat.

What the fuck, Caz? Since when do you play this mod? what the fuck
-
No, there are a series of iron bars ending in a centimeter long pinprick. These are not ironsights. My suggestion is plop a red dot scope on that motherfucker. They invented the double barrel in the game, surely they can modify existing weapons - and frankly, I've never even seen a modern composite crossbow with no optic sights on it.
-
Wait, what sights?

Okay? It isn't your job to. You aren't Rocket, you aren't a part of the development team - you aren't even a forum moderator. Your opinion is not the prerogative of the server owner, and frankly, were I him, I would not be cowtowing and responding to any of the blatant drama-loving teenage witch hunters in this thread. Furthermore, without proof, I'm more inclined to err on the side of the owner; I've met far more average players who will disconnect when threatened than I have vindictive server admins (at a ratio of 10:1, I'd say), and as far as I'm concerned - and, I believe, the majority of the people that play this mod - logging out to avoid being killed is absolutely worthy of a permanent ban. If I were a server owner, I'd do it all day long, unless a dev team member told me that my server would be blacklisted for it. At any rate, I've seen threads like these go unanswered by the developers when they have proof in excess - the accuser here has absolutely no proof, except that he was banned from the server for something. Good luck getting a reply from anybody important.

A subtle solution to the murder "problem"?
John (DayZ) replied to libertine's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Wait a minute - I have a tattoo! And it's even of a skull! Not to MENTION I ride motorcycles! Oh my God I've been a murderer all along and I didn't even know it! ): -
The issue with Chernarus - as many veteran players of ArmA II will tell you - is that very few of the buildings in the country can be entered. After playing for a few days, you'll start to recognize the buildings that can be entered and looted - I've been playing for perhaps three or four months, so I can actually spot those particular buildings at a good distance, and know which ones are in most towns, which are worth looting and which aren't, etc. Your best bets are fire stations, supermarkets, and large office buildings (multi-tiered buildings with an unenterable tower on top), as well as any assortment of green tents (which are medical/military camp sights). Bear in mind these spots, in all towns, will be high-traffick; as such, you're much more likely to be ganked by another player there. Good luck!

sniper rifle zeroing issues with beta 95248
John (DayZ) replied to cruelntention's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Really? I started rough handing distance a long time ago, so I haven't actually counted out dots in a while - I've forgotten how much distance each actually represents. As far as difficulty in judging, I suppose it depends on how comfortable you are with the DMR - I'm fairly decent with it at 600 meters, and I've managed to nail players after a bit of trial-and-error at 900m. -
Two points: As another player mentioned, if you are out in the open, with no cover around, your best defense is sprinting. Shooting another player who is moving a top speed is difficult; I've only managed to do it once with a non-automatic weapon (a Winchester). The player was moving in a straight path because he had not seen me, and I was only about twenty meters from him. So, obviously, dead sprinting parallel to your assailant, or behind better cover, is obviously the preferable option. Chemlights: these are actually a very effective means of lighting your path without giving yourself away. The hardest chemlights to distinguish (due to the varying ability of the human eye to detect different wavelengths of light, or color) is blue, which is unnoticeable except at very close range - and even then, generally, only as a small blue pinprick. If you're in a low-population server, or in a less trafficked area, a blue chemlight is not the worst idea when you can't see a thing. EDIT: Another player stated that red chemlights are the hardest to spot - sorry to say, you're very wrong. Red is possibly the easiest color for the human eye to distinguish at a distance; this is why foglights are tinted red.

sniper rifle zeroing issues with beta 95248
John (DayZ) replied to cruelntention's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That. The mildots on the scope are, in essence, your zeroing function. They're effective, as far as I know, up to 800 meters - though you should be able to make shots at greater distances than that, if you're a decent marksman. -
Are helicopters currently functional? Seen quite a few on my server...
John (DayZ) replied to FlatFeet's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can't be 100% certain, but as far as me and all my buds know, the Huey is not in-game again. Ghillie suits may be - I've found at least one since the last update. Oh, and as far as taking a round to the head - sounds more like desync or lag than hacking. Unless I'm wrong, headshots should still kill hackers. The hacks I've seen videos about don't make you headshot-proof. -
Zombies have people to eat and places to shamble. Also, I find it a bit ludicrous that a plastic wristwatch is more common than a box of matches. Here's an even better question: whether or not you agree that, logically, billions of boxes of matches would litter the countryside (can anybody here say that you don't have a box of matches in your house? Because I have at least a hundred, stuffed away in various drawers, and in the case of Catastrophic Lighter Malfunction occurring when smoking), could you really argue that matches wouldn't spawn in houses? They're matches! Come on, now. Also, high caliber, military grade weaponry. I mean, who doesn't have a LAW, SAW, or carbine in their kitchen? Or, even more commonly, a Stryker sitting in their garage? okay maybe I got a little off base with that bit

Vybor is in the northwest. Keep more morphine on-hand. Simple as.

No Respawn button now? /sigh
John (DayZ) replied to A Bush killed me's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just to clarify, you already don't have to do that. You just have to go back to multiplayer set-up, from which it takes pretty much as long to respawn as it would if you were still in the server. -
He said they'd be tracking log ins/outs. He didn't say they were going to punish anybody for logging out of the game. Some of you folks very seriously need to work on your reading comprehension skills.

No Respawn button now? /sigh
John (DayZ) replied to A Bush killed me's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think this will break the game, exactly (some of you tend to overreact to certain new features), but I don't think it should be disabled nonetheless. If at all possible, what makes the most sense to me, is a finalization prompt when you hit "respawn," because I can't tell you how many Goddamn times I've tried to alter my settings, been a pixel off, and murdered myself by accident. Then again, he may be disabling it specifically to cease respawners from hopping about. You have to admit, while it's lame to have to run to your buddies, it's more lame to kill somebody, start looting them, and then have them show up again and kill you back because they respawned until they were a foot from their corpse. EDIT: Also, a few people have suggested the implementation of a feature that allows you to select your spawn location. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Vipeax or Rocket himself mentioned that this is actually impossible in DayZ, because of the way the "teams" are set up in-game. Also consider that a specific, pinpoint list of spawn locations would probably incite mass deathmatching amongst bandit snipers - I'm not an anti-bandit, but let's be honest, a few snipers perched on a hill overlooking a spawn point for hours, murdering anybody that logs into the server, is a bit game breaking. -
I hadn't realized this was an issue, so I thought this said "[NEW]" at first. Talk about confusing. At any rate, try not to break the game again, Icemotoboy.
-
So, presumably, some of the people reading this thread have been playing since at least 1.6.8 - many of you will remember this as one of the "Rocket broke the game and has to release eight hotfixes in one day" phases of DayZ (of which there are several). As far as I can recall, 1.6.8 was the longest stable build of DayZ in recent history. I started playing 'round the 1.5s. It was around the 1.6s that I started understanding the game and finding much better loot. Here's the thing: since 1.7.x, my loot has been absolute ass monkeys. I mean literally dick all. It used to be that you would have a tough time finding loot - now I find that, half the time, there just isn't any. Don't get me wrong, and don't confuse me for a new player - I know where and how to find some of the best guns in the game, and if I die, I usually recover all of the essential tools for survival and an ALICE pack inside of an hour. No biggie. It's just frustrating as a motherfucker when I loot an untouched military barracks, ten military hangars, a fire station on a military base, an A/C tower, and then a crashed motherfucking helicopter site and come up with one AKM clip and a smoke grenade. I mean, what the hell is that? You can't tell me this is how the game is meant to be, these days. There has to be something bugging out the loot, because helicopter crash sites are essentially the pot at the end of the Goddamn rainbow - they have the best loot, and usually a decent amount of it. I've found three FN FALs at one helicopter, ghillie suits, DMRs, etc. How is it even remotely possible that there could be literally nothing at one? Opinions? Ideas? Anybody?
-
Just to see what I'd get if I kept at it for a good while, I looted the entire northwest air field, a downed chopper, and Vybor roughly three times each (except for the helicopter, which I hit twice; two different loot spawn triggers failed to spawn a single bit of gear), and yielded exactly one M4A1 with two clips. That is it. In three hours. Nobody sees a problem with that? I mean, I'm not saying it should be easy as all hell to find military gear - I'm just saying that three hours and three successive sweeps of the most dangerous, best loot-yielding areas in the map should, in theory, have gotten me something. Anything. All I got was a pretty common assault rifle.
-
Nah, no zombies had been spawned. If they had looted it long enough ago for all of the zombies to fuck off, in theory, there should be more loot there now. Besides, I find it hard to believe that they took every single item they found - most people will leave one or two things; something they don't need, something they already have. The only real explanation is that it just didn't spawn a single drop of loot.

Just got killed by a fuckin tree...
John (DayZ) replied to ericdude88's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is an ArmA II issue, not a DayZ issue. That's what happens when you buy a game for an alpha-stage mod. At any rate, there's nothing that Rocket can do about it as far as I know. Just don't go prone that close to objects. -
If you're looking at a box of medical supplies, and it seems a bit empty, trying taking whatever you find - say you look at the box and it's got two bandages. Take the two bandages, close your inventory, and reopen it on the box. Should be tons of shit in there, then. For whatever reason, objects near a container have a tendency to overlap and make it appear that the container doesn't have anything in it.

Hrm. Oh wait, I answered both of those questions in my post - almost as if he had asked about them. My God.

[VIDEO] How to give somebody a heart attack

You should definitely have a friend on-hand, in your background, to wail on the guitar as soon as you start screaming.
