Who wants to set up the Chernarus Marathon?

I started to record a preliminary vid of the route - I haven't paid for FRAPS yet, so I'll have to edit them together to show the basics. I've gotten as far as Cherno, and I'll be working on it tonight, should have something to post up tomorrow. The Docks make nice detours for drinks/checkpoints

Who wants to set up the Chernarus Marathon?

Ok, I'm convinced. I withdraw my suggestion for bandit involvement. Let them make their own events. :)
  3. I'm sorry to hear that. But I promise that even if you shoot at me first, I will NOT return fire, even if it means my death. Which it has, many, many, many times.

    The "Friendly!" Experiment

Well said. I've only ever taken so much as a single hatchet swing at another survivor - it was a panic move as he was shooting me in the face. I called out on direct comm to let me be, I would kill the zeds and be on my way. He let me kill the zeds, then capped me in the back of the head.

Who wants to set up the Chernarus Marathon?

I would hope in the case of this type of event, even the bandits would be more sporting about it. Although, i could see that happening just before the finish line. Even, so, that would be hilarious.

    The "Friendly!" Experiment

This is great idea, and we should all post about encounters like these. So far I've met two friendlies, one a russian gentleman who was using the same tactic as I do, calling out before entering a building, and the second was a reforming bandit who fired at me, then called out friendly and apologized for the hasty fire. Each time we went our separate ways, mainly because my play style is kind of dangerous for those around me. :) I like to tear ass through towns once i have an axe. Is there already a "shout-out" thread to give recognition to the players who DON'T KoS? If not, maybe we should have one.

    Ok I have had enough....

Zombie has become a catch-all phrase which yes, includes the "living dead", but also carriers of a mutated rabies virus, such as the rage virus in 28 Days Later. So, since these are infected zombies, it isn't quite so far out of the realm of plausibility.
  10. No, I'm saying that we don't know jack about what's going on here. Therefore, we aren't qualified to dismiss EITHER side of the story. I didn't put forward any theories, I simply said that the two sides presented are both plausible. Where have I been disrespectful to anyone involved?
  11. Why such a reaction to a valid question? In all honesty, these two people are unknown to us, except through their public profiles, and what Rocket says about them. None of us, Rocket included, are in possession of any actual facts about this case. It is entirely possible that one or both of these men have been engaging in espionage. It is equally possible that this is some horrendous overreaction by the Greek authorities. As long as the tone doesn't become disrespectful, any participation should be welcome.
  12. The time it took you to post that message would have been enough time to sign. Can this guy have to pay twice for the standalone?

    It's getting harder

I'm getting tempted to go bandit... every person I've encountered so far has killed me, either on sight, or after I dealt with a bunch of zombies. I don't mind the bandits so much, but is everybody so bloody paranoid out there they HAVE to fill the guy being chased by zombies with lead? Every time I so much as THINK there's another survivor around, I call out "friendly" or "unarmed". I want the experience of meeting other survivors, but not if it means a shootout every bloody time. Hrmm... a bit of this is sour grapes... had some good gear this time... bugger. Sorry guys, just needed to vent, I suppose

    It's getting harder

Met a friendly today. Went to the Balota AF for some gear, and the ATC is barricaded with razor wire. Uh-oh. I call out friendly, no response. Of course I'm being chased, so I run in, turn around and start hacking away. And get this... NOBODY shoots me from behind. I go upstairs, and find a shotty on the top floor. I'm about to pick it up, when i hear a voice asking if anyone is here. We both call friendly, and not wanting to pook him, I wait till he gets upstairs before I pick up the shotty. We both decide to go our separate ways. So, whoever you are - we were at Balota AF on US 1347. You have my beans, sir.You have restored my faith in humanity.

    A few random Suggestions

    1. In the event of an apocalypse of this nature, electrical power generation would likely break down, so where would the street lights get the power? Unless players can find and use solar equipment, it shouldn't be present, should it? 2. Why would the zombies be in various states of decay? They're infected with a virus, as I understand the storyline. This is why you can kill them with body hits. They're not undead. 3. I agree - to an extent. Weapon spawns should be more tightly related to location as well as "class". A residential home in a rural area would be more likely to contain long guns, where a residential building in a city would more likely contain handguns. Military grade firearms only spawn at military sites. And so on and so forth. 4. A Safe Zone/Quarantine Zone is properly the responsibility of the players to create and maintain, isn't it? The thing is, DayZ is what we make it, through our interactions with each other.

    Start with no backpack?

It would definitely make more sense to start with the vest if anything at all. And really, in the panic that would ensue in a ZA scenario, most people would grab some sort of makeshift weapon before anything else. Immediate survival needs would trump long term plans in the very beginning. All IMO, of course.
  17. Infected. Words have a specific meaning. Although, to be fair "zombie" is applied to much more than simple undead.

    Players 30+ years old

DZC does the same thing to me all the time, but it's the DZC ping count that's unreliable. Ignore it, and check your ping in the game lobby. I see 1000 pins in DZC, but get a reliable 29-40 in lobby. 37 Canada here, btw - usually find me running around elektro or cherno at top speed. Hey, I picked my name for a reason. :)

Isn't being a hero the point of being a hero?

Servers Aren't Normal For Me Anymore

I've found that happens to me sometimes too.I'll get a server list, but servers will begin disappearing. However, if I quickly double click a server, I'll join it's lobby no problem. As a stupid question, have you tried refreshing the entire server list?

    Google Earth maps?

What's stopping players from using vehicles? Or what about the dynamic thrown in from meeting other players in your area? In such a scenario, wouldn't solitary survivors form groups as they traveled? From the impression I've gotten, the alpha is just about survival, whereas the standalone is supposed to have an ambition(totally dependent on the players) towards rebuilding societies of a sort. I understand your point about distance between non-local friends, but I think there's a solution to that already. Different servers can host different maps/regions. So as long you play on the same server you can play together... just like right now.

    Google Earth maps?

Perhaps I misstated the suggestion. My main point was really just supposed by about the possibility of ADDING maps after release(which I believe has been mentioned as a sales strategy) and whether those maps could be generated/rendered from real-world via google earth. Honestly, the last thing I want is to push the release date back. I probably want this game to exist more than a lot of other players. I just saw the potential for another layer of immersion into the game. Come on, honestly - wouldn't you LOVE to be able to play in cities and countryside in your area?

    Google Earth maps?

That would actually be very interesting. I like te fact that most servers run the game on local time. Local mapping and weather would be awesome. (Yes, I know matching the weather local to the server is well nigh impossible.) One time I was playing my laptop out on the deck, it was raining off and on IRL - But I swear, every time the rain stopped IRL, it stopped in DayZ. Every time it started again, so went the game. It was my first week playing the game, I wasn't sure if it was a feature, or just a massive coincidence. The realism in this game just continually blows me away. Just for reference, I grew up on the Atari 2600. I wish I had any knowledge of mapping at all, I'd give it a shot. I know there a great many custom map designers for other games, is there a mapping community for Arma?
