I play with the "New Spawn" attitude regardless of the gear I have. Except I approach it from the other side, and kill nobody for any reason. You can't change game mechanics because you don't like someone's playstyle. Some people in a real apocalypse would KoS. Some would go the insane stalker/killer route. Though perhaps if you want to have an effect on in game behaviour regarding communication, third party chat programs could be disallowed, but balance this by giving players CB "walkies" for communication in game.

Beans for you, Sir. I play the same way. Death to the zeds, loot runner and med supplier to the rest. Occasionally a raving lunatic with an axe, but I don't swing at players.

The server I play on is free, but keeps five open slots at all times, to allow for players to purchase a reserved slot for $10 a month. Just make sure it's a damned good server. Put the money towards the server and hack protection.

I think sometimes the server settings clean up bodies a little too quickly. I've had player corpses disappear in front of me, zed corpses, I even killed a goat the other day and it disappeared before I could gut it. I don't know if it the settings, a bug, or a combination of the two. But it does happen.

I've actually been more interested in discussing the ideas than in contributing to the stand alone. I like to think about stuff, putting it very plainly. But I don't think there's much difference either way. If there are hundreds of separate threads about the same idea, it will show the same interest level to the devs as one massive thread would. Perhaps more so, because once a thread hits a certain length, you begin getting responses to months-old posts, and complaints that the response has been covered already. Also, most people won't take the time to read through the entire thread. TL;DR, right? BTW, don't get the idea that I'm trying to slight you in any way at all here. Just offering a different point of view is all. Hey! I just noticed your sig. I think it was from my first suggestion thread about maps for the standalone. :) Beans!

The server I play on leaves an NPC "dummy" for one minute in the event of combat logging. It's a bit hit or miss on whether or not it's actual "combat logging" or not, so the one minute timer provides some leeway in that case. It seems to work well for us, there haven't been any extreme cases. Plus, the server records will show anyone who repeatedly CLs, and they'll catch a ban for it. @Zeppa - Why not follow your own advice and just ignore these new threads, or bump the old ones, rather than trying to turn it into an argument about "pointless" threads? You'll feel better about it, and so will everyone else.

I think once it is in the hands of the community, the mod will stay strong. The mod has logged how many players now? They ALL have it already, and will want to keep playing it alongside the standalone. Of course, this is assuming that the majority of players are as rabid about good zombie survival games as I am.

Don't bother sneaking. As soon as you spawn, run your ass off to the nearest dock. Check the industrial buildings for a hatchet. right click on it in your gear, select remove from toolbelt. Now you can kill zeds. On a hive server, you will carry your character data across every server on that hive. So you don't necessarily need to play the same server every time. Use . to change the chat channel. rebind a key to voice talk over direct chat if you plan to use voice. I'm assuming raider to be equivalent to bandit, from context. Means surviving from loot taken from other players. Right click items in your gear to use them. See above. If you dc in town, you may respawn into the middle of a firefight. You're also pretty helpless for a few seconds when you spawn, so consider that as well.

I haven't committed a single murder, or any type of Pkill. I won't say the thought hasn't crossed my mind... slowly, softly, whispering sweetly about easy it would be, one or two swings.... but I'm not going there for a while yet.
