Hi guys, I was playing DayZ for the first time in awhile today and while I recognised none of the places I spawned in, it was kind of difficult discerning which buildings had the valuable supplies in. What buildings are worth looting for supplies now? Also, I'm not sure if this is a bug but if it isn't then I don't understand the point in playing - why are my characters whiped every time I log off? I lost my fully geared character when I logged off earlier and because I haven't played in so long I'm not sure if this is caused by anything in specific. Is there something to avoid this? Thanks, Andy

Where to loot (if there is any point?)
SurvivorAndy replied to SurvivorAndy's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the tips guys, I think I'm gonna start heading inland more when I spawn. And I know characters got wiped for .50 but I meant almost every time I logged off, my character was deleted and reset. -
So I've only just managed to get a good life together on DayZ, and I've noticed that the majority of people I play around in servers seem not to be very creative; and a lot of experiences in the game can rely on calling bluffs or making them.I figured a lot of new players can benefit from using their ingenuity (What are you risking?) and I thought I'd share my experience with them. The first time I noticed how stupid some players can be, I was with a friend when we hear a man shouting us down. He's 20-30 metres away and we only have axes. He's in casual clothing and he tells us to drop our gear, but he doesn't look very well armed. I tell him I'm gonna call his bluff and he can shoot me, then figure I lose nothing by taking out my axe and running him head on. I'm aware I might be popped on the way, but he puts his gun away and he tries to run. /NOMERCY. The reverse happens in a fire station. A man with an axe runs in laughing, telling me unless I drop my gear he's going to cut me up with his axe. I take out my bone dry magnum and point it at his head. The laughing stops and I turn him against the wall; where his laughing turns to begging. He wasn't really going to mug me, he promises. He drops his axe as I say. I come collect it, and promptly kill him with his own axe. I've had a lot of incidents where I've bluffed or called them involving an empty gun, but only one where I put two people on the floor. I'm fresh spawn at three valley when two fairly well armed people approach me (they have axes and nice clothing but no visible guns). They're trying to shout me down, but they sound maybe eleven. They're telling me to stay still so they can handcuff me, but I figure I have nothing to lose. I tell them they've picked the wrong guy, and my friend Chris up on that hill is about to shoot both of them before they can move up to me. Somehow their voices continue increasing in pitch as they tell me it was a joke and they wouldn't have killed me (sounds familiar) and once again I send them both to the floor and collect their weapons. Pissed that these are the sorts of kids that I often hear about (sadism simulator for new spawns) I figure they should know how it feels. I make him drop his cuffs and take them. I then handcuff the second guy and hold my axe to the first man's head. I tell him that if he wants to live, he has to kill the one I handcuffed. They aren't on skype and seem to have been people who found eachother on the game. The first only has minor qualms but the second begs him not to do this, it's stupid, I'll kill him anyway. Eventually he kills him with his fists, and I tell him to back off and not take an inch or he gets his head blown off. I search the body and there's three pieces of rotten fruit and another pair of cuffs. I cuff the second guy, and tell him I'm going to let him go. His thanks me until I take out the fruit. Que angry COD kid screaming. I give him all three and point him to the hospital at Berezino. I uncuff him and watch him run, wondering if he'll make it. TL;DR if you have nothing to lose or you calculate something as a bluff, take the chance because if you think it's a bluff it probably is. If you THINK it's a bluff. Don't try fisticuffs with a guy pointing an M4 at you. Have you ever had a funny experience with bluffing on this game? Post it! PS: Don't do what I did with the whole sadist thing. The game needs some friendlier guys.

Everyone's a cynic huh? If I wanted to make a story up they'd less mundane.
-
It's survival mentality coupled with the fact that a lot of people that play DayZ aren't that smart.
-
You should be able to use a knife to cut a hole in the top of GM backpack so you can fit a gun in there (for lots of slots) and the barrel would go through the hole so the gun would fit.

Do you have this video? Sounds cool lol

Your funniest moment in Dayz
SurvivorAndy replied to StayAlive (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
So, this is the first time I ever log on to the DayZ mod. Only one of my friends is still up - I've heard all the stuff they've done while I've been in calls, and I know he's loaded up really well. I spawn and end up appearing right by Elektro, with my friend up on the hill by me. He scares the shit out of me making me think I'm being attacked, until he owns up and says it's him coming towards me. It's pitch black, and there's one other person on the server. We head into Elektro, while he teaches me about zombie aggro ranges, stealth and looting. I get an M4A1 with a load of ammo in the fire station, which I'm told is really good. We loot afew more places and eventually I'm sporting some amazing gear. We get to the shop, and I stay low. I'm terrified still, those nerves you always got beginning DayZ. He tells me I can stand up - there's only one other person on the server and he promises me he'll be anywhere but here, "probably up north somewhere". I'm looking around the shop, and we find some more food. He tells me we need to go, and walks towards the door. He has some sweet gear; a military sniper, ghillie, nvg, another gun in his pack and he's stocked with food. He gets one more step with all that loot when a shot rings out, and blood fountains from his face and I'm sprayed in my friends blood. I stand there in shock as blood spews from his corpse onto me, until another shot goes right past me. I've absoloutly shat myself, I'm terrified. I run back into the store as he verbally grimaces in the Skype call. I sit there considering getting his gear for ten minutes until he tells me it's not worth it, so I log off. My first twenty minutes in the game and I see my endgame friend die without so much as a warning, on a server with one other person. I have way more stories if you guys want to hear it, including a standalone habit of euthanasia. -
Yeah kidnapping isn't really viable right now because you can't really take people, but they're getting there. You can cover people's heads with Burlap sacks now (or might still be experimental) and of course there's cuffs. I'm the same though, I think it's a much better experience for gameplay if there's alternatives to just being shot.

I have an SKS with lots of ammo but keep finding M4A1's in pretty good quality. As a gun , the M4A1 is usually my favorite gun in games but I have heard in this game the M4 is very inaccurate with a large spread and low range. I don't really know what the SKS has so I can't compare them, so input please?
-
That's awesome man, unlucky about the ending though. I'd say never accept a survivor you pick up from another group, because chances are they're friends outside the game and they'll wait for a moment to get revenge.
-
They are really underrated, I think people underestimate the intelligence of the average player lol.
-
Thanks, and is your name a reference to The Stand?
-
Thanks everyone, I wasn't expecting it to be a topic that was that heavily debated. Last question though, how often will the gun parts take damage and how difficult is it to replace them? So far it seems the SKS will be easier to keep around.

Survival is not just about looting canned food and ak47s
SurvivorAndy replied to Lady Kyrah's topic in General Discussion
Not going to lie, I clicked this expecting a philosophical speculation on how life without other people isn't living and KOS shouldn't happen I prefer what you've posted, it would add a lot more depth and things like heat wasn't best used in the DayZ mod. -
I'm a little confused by this, everyone is saying 5.56 is more common than the SKS ammo counterpart but I take all ammo I find aside from shells, and whileI've stocked up almost 90 shots for my SKS I've found very few 5.56's. I'd probably swap it out for a Mosin if I could find one but I don't have any ammo for it and most encounters with players are close range and frantic.

It's not like he's demanding any payment and even what he refers to accepting doesn't cost people anything outside of the game. It's his gear he's risking to try helping people, no need to be dicks. -
Why are you against many military items in game?
SurvivorAndy replied to CrazyCorky's topic in General Discussion
Personally I'd enjoy a much wider variety of guns, maybe not *too* many military grade ones but yeah, more guns. It's not fun knowing there's maybe ten (less, I think) guns to claim in the world. There should definitely be at least one rare sniper though and more assault rifles though. -
EDIT: Warning, I didn't realise but my telling of this story goes on for awhile. Didn't realise until I posted it. Be prepared for a long-ish read. So me and two friends all got DayZ standalone. We didn't have high hopes but we were being won over, raincoat by raincoat. When we group up in Cherno, we begin to leave and god damn if they weren't skyscrapers on the distance. One of my friends tell us that he's been there in a past life, and the loot he'd found was pretty good. Reassured and enticed, we head there. After an exasperatingly immature game of hide and seek on the way there, we arrived. Damn, it looked cool. We run into the closest apartment block, partly because of our excitement and partly because of the phase-shifting zombie on our tails. After treating the uninvited guest to a bloody, axe-y suprise; we race through the building looking for loot. Spaghetti, aw yeah! And then there's kind of absoloutly nothing. We look through afew more similar buildings, but we don't find anything remarkable. With nothing but a can of spaghetti and broken dreams in tow, we leave towards the airstrip - and that's when we see the hospital. Without learning any lessons from what happened mere moments ago, we scurry into the hospital expecting to find enough supplies to medicate a city. I search a room in the back while the other two scour the hospital for meds. Finding little, I finally relinquish any sense of control over my eating habits to the relentless spam of bodily patterns flooding my chat. The game tells me that my stomach rumbles violently and that I'm really hungry. I'm pretty confident that I feel none of these, but feeling peer pressured by my own body I retreat to some of the local apartment blocks we hadn't looked through. I find only a handcuff key, which is usefull as I have been carrying around a pair of handcuffs for awhile. It's while I'm looking through these apartment rooms that the beginning of the end breaks loose. "WHAT THE HELL? DUDE YOU WERE NOWHERE NEAR ME" "I KNOW WHAT THE F*CK DUDE I DIDN'T EVEN" "I KNOW WE WERE MILES APART" By now I'm pretty worried and confused, so I ask my friends what the hell they're talking about. One explains to me that he accidently hit the other with his axe. I laugh, and get back to my search until: "It wasn't your fault, it was lag or a glitch or something. I'm coming back now, I spawned in Balota" It had totally eluded me that he could have died on the hit, and the realisation that it was a critical hit sinks in. Damn. I abandon my search and head back to my murderer-friend to keep him safe in case he's lagging, which I figure he is. Fast forward afew minutes, and we gain the attention of a zombie. I kill it, but not before it hits my friend and gets him bleeding. While I bandage him with bits of my shirt - his is glitched and he can't - like a shark, another zombie comes.Mortally terrified of my friend's axe now, I go in to kill the zombie while he runs it around in circles; on the off chance that his player-seeking axe manages to extend itself by afew foot and take my face off. Ensuing the Benny-hill chase theme, for afew minutes I hound the zombie, each axe-swing bringing me closer to its back until I see a satisfying, physics-defying thrust in the zombie and it falls to the floor. By now, my still-bleeding friend is close to death. Yep, he tells me, he's fell unconscious. First thing's first - I bandage him up, this time without a zombie's love-taps interrupting my work, Aw yeah, I bandage him sucessfully. I don't understand why this satisfies me so much, but I tell myself that I owned that left-click apply bandage. I owned the hell out of it. Next step, getting him a blood transfusion or bringing him back around. I think getting him back to full health might wake him up, so I take out a first-aid kit I found and lay it out on the floor. Wait, what the hell is all of this? I take everything out of the first aid kit, and begin to work out the intricacies of saving a life. I see if any of the blood bags have blood in it, which they don't. I do manage to remember that on this standalone, the wrong bloodtype will kill somebody. I realise I can probably use the syrringe to take his blood sample, and I'm pretty sure I replicate the feeling of first discovering fire millions of years ago. Basically, it's good. I happilly take away the precious little blood he has, and begin staring at the needle. What next? My commentary - primarily "uh...uhm...wellllll..." in no way comfort my fallen friend, who asserts a conviction that he will die in my hands. Not in mine, no sir. Doctor Brown has let zero of his patients die before you, and you won't be the first. You can be the first patient, however. I return to staring at my needle, as the second friend - victim of the rogue axe - returns and empties the contents of his old body. All geared up with some clothing and an axe, he's ready to help me in this delicate surgery. Firstly, we need to find a place to operate. No drag body feature? Alright, plan one gone. Plan two quickly reveals itself - you can push somebody by walking into them. It's now that we begin awkwardly walking into him, in an attempt to push his still-standing unconscious form into the safety of the hospital. I entrust my friend, we'll call him JR and the sleepyhead JC, to push JC into the building. Meanwhile, I look through the rest of the place hunting down a way to find blood. I find nothing but a rotten banana, which I pocket. I believe in euthanasia, and the banana will be a dignified end for JC if the puzzle of a blood transfusion is...fruitless. Fruitless! Ha. Finding nothing in the rest of the building, I return to find JC in a vending machine and JR trying to retrieve him. We both sit and laugh at him, while he despairs that he might as well be dead by now. Aw. Hunkering down by JC, I get all of my available tools out. There is no hope left, so we can only pray to Lady luck that our blood types are compatible. I first try injecting his blood into myself, which I can't actually find a way to do. I then notice the empty blood bag, and have an idea. JC brb's to get a drink, and I prepare to get to work. Then the bullets start being sprayed. "SHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT" JC finally slumps to the floor - goodnight, sweet prince - and JR makes a break out of the hospital. I take a crippling amount of shots, but bring myself to run out as well. "Where are we being shot from man?" "SCHOOLHOUSE HE MOVED DOWN TO FIRST FLOOR" With this information, I draw eratic lines of movement on a path to the school, taking one more bullet for my troubles. JR gets here as well, telling me he took four hits. I know I took more, but I stay quiet and bandage him. JC's dead, we're both mortally hurt. Our weapons that we toted - an empty pistol and an axe - seemed insufficient against the semi-auto horror that hurt us so badly, but we have an idea. "JR, let me try something on you" "Yeah sure" I take out my handcuffs, and cuff him to see if it immediatly stops his weapon. It does. The too-good-to-be-true handcuff key that I found earlier is taken out, and I release him and turn away to ponder our next move. "AB, can you release me now?" "I did" "No I'm still cuffed" "Dude I used the key on you it said you were released" "I'm really not" "Shit." "Shit." I take his own pair of handcuffs from his inventory - the fight ahead now my own. As I move around to the side of the ladder, JR bursts out that he's broken free. Now without my handcuffs and my original plan to cuff him before he can kill us, I get ready to flank the gunman with no idea what to do but a pretty good blueprint for my axe meeting the base of his skull. I tell JR to cover the noise of my climbing with meaningless BS over comms, and he begins relaying why we were at the hospital in the first place and how pathetic the would-be bandit was. I manage to get to the top floor. Did you expect me to be shot? Did you think I would close the gap, and brutally avenge JC? Would I be gunned down, and would JR take on the mantle of vengeance? It was none of these things. The bandit has combat-logged. The schoolhouse is empty, he is nowhere to be found. There are no lessons to be taught from this story, no heartwarming conclusions, no great tragedies. One of us died, and the both of us are wounded beyond recovery. We are, to accuratly use the word, doomed. The server crashed. We have decided solemly that when we return to the game, we will kill ourselves as we are too hurt to keep going. We will climb to the top of the roof and let ourselves fall, the landing hopefully finishing us off. It's more dignified than hobbling around until we're shot, or starving to death. We'll jump when we log back on. There are no lessons to be taught from this story, no heartwarming conclusions, no great tragedies, no plot twists, no drama. It's just an ending. Just an ending, for only three people in this game of thousands. Just one set of lives.. In every essence of the game and it's purpose, it was a true DayZ ending to our story.
