Never mind getting old, I don't even understand how it would be fun to start with. Just seems like something a child would do, its really pathetic.

Then when you put the game down for a month and lose the paper...? Maybe a word document in a DayZ folder would be better. Also commander doesn't work so well for finding servers, often it doesnt show ones I search for but they show in the games lobby search.

Did you check both the boxes in the settings, the ones that tell it to work with steam?

Lol you've been more sucessful than me I think. Mine goes - Attempt 1 - spawn at night time, can't see anything, sneak to a house, get eaten. 2 - I run to the forest and wander for awhile and eventually find a hut/house with only two zombies who are both walking the other way. I crouch and run to the hut.... 3rd zombie appears and bites me. I run and loose him, then after bandaging myself I begin to search again, but this time it's harder as colour is starting to drain from my vision and I'm shaking. Eventually I find what I assume to be a deer stand so I carefully approach and... There is nothing there >_< at this point I start to cry and run for the closest zombie, Shouting "CHOKE ON IT!!" Attempt 3 - My friend is online and says he will help, but he's up north with no vehicle. While he finds his way to me I wander aimlessly, I find a farm and decide to investigate, I get bitten and run. After loosing the zeds and bandaging I decide to try again as my friend says he is on the way. By this point I was very thirsty, so I headed to the barn, got bitten and had to run again. After awhile I died of thirst and blood loss and never found my friend. 4. "I FOUND A HuNTING KNIFE!! F'CK YEAH!!... Oh wait how do I equip it?", I Lay down in the grass and start fiddling with my inventory, then I hear a voice, "You'd better run!". I'm like "oh f'ck!", partly because he's a bandit but mostly because of the 5 zombies which are now running at me. I have a spaz on my keyboard and can't get my character to run, instead I accidentally throw a chem light at the bandit before getting bitten and making a run for it. Again suffering from blood loss and lack of food/water I'm pretty desperate for a sucessful raid so I head into town and find some empty cans and a crowbar, now of course I realise that the H-Knife cannot be used as a weapon >_<. I still need food and healing so with my new weapon I continue searching the town... And get eaten. 5. Spawn near a small power station of some kind (atlast some luck!) and find TWO hatchets inside. I practice hitting zombies with it for a minute or two the head to a larger factory/power station I can see in the distance. I reach the factory and climb to the roof... Nothing there, so I climb back down and think to myself that I should head to the woods before I push my luck... Then a devil appears on mu shoulder and says, "Why head to the woods?! With this hatchet you are invinsible!!". So I sprint across an open field to the next building and stop to kill a zombie.... *Zip* "WTF was that?!".... HEADSHOT! I'm hoping I will do better when I play again later >_<

How do you change skins? My characters seem to start on 2500 but obviously never goes up as I have never changed skins and reset it to 0

Yes you need arma 2 and operation arrowhead. If you have steam, the bundle is called Combined ops on the store page. You can buy the steam version or retail, it makes no difference to the mod.

Yeah but since I checked the second box, "replace steam files with beta" or whatever it's called, I don't need to use commander, if I open OA through steam it automatically starts DayZ. So would disabling that second check box mean that I can launch OA normally again?

I'm in the UK so would have to check ping but I will look it up when I'm home later. What's the time zone of the server? Needs to be about GMT -7 for me cos I usually play late at night :)

I checked both steam boxes on DayZ Commander. Would disabling DayZ be as simple as just unchecking those boxes?

So I've played a few hours now but I really really suck, I read guides to starting out and stuff but nothing helps. Basically my problem is that I keep getting eaten by zombies before I can find anything to defend myself with. I will sneak up to a building and somehow get spotted, then will spend the next 10 mins running and trying to bandage myself. I will then repeat the process untill I eventually die of thirst. How can I sneak more efficiently? I spend most of my time crouched, do I really need to go prone and crawl to/from every building?

Thanks I will try running around like a loon when I'm home later! :) Before I turned off I spawned just a little west of Elekro, so that will be a good place to try the run&run tactic lol

What's a sperg?

So I tried playing for the first time late last night after getting it all DL'd and set up, but im havig some problems. 1. I can't find any servers in the day time. I'm using DayZ commander which displays the server time, but most servers either give me and error "bad version, Server rejected" or they have the message "required: 1.65620.036(random numbers)" displayed in red inthe bottom right corner and are unresponstive when I click them. So far the only games I have been able to get into have been pitch black. Have I done something wrong? 2. While stumbling around in the dark I came across some zombies in a settlement, they were quite a distance away so I thought I would experiment with sneaking etc... Then BOOM the zombies start sprinting at me as fast as an Olympian! Looked like a video being played in fast forward or something. Is that normal? 3. Is there any way for me to defend myself when I first start out? Shining a flashlight in the zombies eyes didn't seem to help much while it was munching away at my face.

Oh and one more question please! The first 2-3 servers I joined were pitch black so I couldn't see how it was running, but the 3rd one was a little lighter and everything looked really jerky. Is that normal? I don't know if it was just a bad framerate or just jerky animation. Is there anyway to check if my pc is running the game at its full potential?

Ok thanks for the tips! I checked the install/Update section in the top right corner of Commander and it said I was up to date, but I will double check later :) Throwing bottles and cans sounds fun, very Shaun of the dead lol.

Hello! I'm strongly considering buying this when im home from work later, to tide me over untill War Z or the standalone Day Z. Is it worth it? Personally I think it is worth it, but my main concern is about hackers. How do inplay on one of these hive servers I've seen mentioned? I'm in the UK, many hive servers in my region? The money is only a minor issue, I'm not rich but I could spare the cash without problems if I decided to buy, so don't let that factor into your answer please :)

How big is the mod? Should i start downloading it now? Currenlty on 6gb of 16gb for my arma combined download. When its done i will literally be playing for the first time and have no idea what im doing, so i was actually trying to be funny when i said i would come to the rescue :P I may do if you really want me too though, Hopefully i will get an hour or twos practice in tonight and be ready for tomorrow.

My game is still downloading but i will be there in about 4 hours... Oh and where can i get bandages? :P

Damn i can tell im going to die alot in this game lol Would rather work with People than kill them... Obviously i want shootouts with bandits but i was hoping the community would be abut 50/50 Surviror to murderer ratio. Oh well at least now i have a better idea of how cautious to be, and to be fair, even I was planning to kill a trusting randomer just for fun at some point :P
