Everything in my thread linked in my signature would be in-game! There would be so much literature, you would drown in it. Then I would find your body and add the experience to the archives. Sounds great for me! Atleast you would die with a good read in your hands.

Anyone notice how DayZ is becoming less and less survival oriented, and is now filled with PVP-ing CoD kiddies?

This was obviously a private server or something of the sort. No way they just happened to have an AKM, someone got them that, maybe through hacking. I could be completely wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me. Anyway, all of the players I have experienced friendly and not have been nothing of the sort. I'll post a few examples here out of the big book, but they'll be simple. If you want to read them in their artistic and maybe entertaining format, click on the link in my signature. Once, I saw a helicopter fly over Elektro. I hid from it, but when it got really really close to me, I came out. It was hovering low. I didn't know it but they were spotting me. He flew over to the garage with the tower on top, and me, knowing there was weapons inside, went over to snag one. Them being right next to it took it as I was trying to shoot them with my winchester. They shot me. They gave me a chance to live. They didn't ridicule me. A friendly experience happened when I spawned in with no weapon. I saw a truck drive through the town. I ran after it, eventually caught up, and they let me inside. they took me to an airfield where, since I couldn't go in due to artifacting, gave me an AKM they went in to get for me. They gave me a bloodpack when I accidently ejected from the car. The only "cod-kiddie" moment I had was walking down the railroad and getting killed by a sniper in Balota while I was unarmed. I assumed he set up camp and didn't want me to see. Still, you should not get mad at those kids. They are only trying to make you mad and them feel good, whether it be by trolling you and making you mad, or by making themselves feel powerful by having these guns and killing people. Posts like this on the forums only make them feel more proud of themselves. As for the declining survival aspect, I disagree. I've had times where I'm scavenging for food and water, on yellow or orange icons. Been running from zombies, using diversionary tactics or taking advantage of docks, piers, stairs, and ladders. The survival aspect isn't declining. Though yes, it pains me when people from CoD hear zombie survival, guns, PvP, and think it's the perfect game. Because they are blundering idiots, like toddlers putting things in their mouths and getting slobber all over it; it just makes you so annoyed. Yet, of course, there are the ones who play CoD yet are not one of these giant, dumb, and irking child-demons. I'm 14. I played CoD. I don't like it anymore, way before I had anything to replace it or played ArmA, but I play Battlefield and that gets me picked on. ArmA is a new front for me, but I don't go in expecting it to have suppression kills and promotions for detrementing humanity by eliminating enemy population. -
How do you take pictures in DayZ? I tried with Steam, but every hotkey for the camera I try either does something in ArmA or doesn't work at all....

I run a thread where I post my experiences day-to-day, so I'll give you some advice directly from it that I know will be an eventuality for you: Part 3- Re-do.... So my last 2 lives weren't the best. I KNEW this one would be better. I spawn in to see a zed running toward me like I'm a bucket of endless chicken from KFC. Questioning if KFC exists in Chernarus, I run over to a railway bridge and attempt to lose the zed. I ended up getting a fracture. I was going to let the zed eat my brains. I saw him running. He got closer. He was a yard away. And then something inside myself told me not to give up. So I went on. I made it into a large industrial town. I will just say that by the end of the night in less than 2 hours, I had a toolbox, winchester with lots of ammo, a G17, toolbox, map, compass, watch, hunting knife, and plenty of food and water. From not giving up, I made some of the best loot that I had ever gotten. Advice: value your life, and don't give up just because you're frustrated of the circumstance. Keep on going, because you never know just what you'll find and just what you'll amount to be. Now, I start to work on one of my first DayZ aspirations to ever surface. Repair and drive a car. And I'm in the perfect place to do it. All this is about not giving up just because things look bad or you're disappointed from dying and losing gear. It might mean more to you if you look on the thread and see how I died those 2 times and what led up to it, but you don't have to, and in all honesty, it might not. So there you go, my advice to a new player. If you want more, take a peek at my thread, because that's what it's all about.

Day of a n00b, You might find this funny ;-)

Your stories remind me a lot of what I was like in the beginning, but instead of getting killed by zeds the first time, I recall crouching down and not knowing how to make myself stand again, so I resorted to death to fix the problem. Atleast, that's how I think it went down. I know what it feels like to be a victim of the night, and what it feels like to be "zipped" with little to no gear, and once even at night. Just remember, no matter what happens, never get attached to your gear. You will lose it. Anyway, like you, I have logged my experiences in my own thread. I try to entertain people day to day with a few paragraphs about what I did that day in DayZ, and try to incorporate tricks, techniques for DayZ, as well as the occasional "life lesson" or so. If you click the link in my signature it will take you to them. You can also read my experiences from the very beginning by clicking the link on MY thread. You should see it near the top. Anyway, just stop in, read a bit, and tell me how I'm doing. I really appreciate it. -
This thread is for posting stories, huh? I actually have my own thread where I post my adventures and in much more bulk and a different format. I do my best to entertain my readers the best I can and make things easily defined in what's what. Sadly, I haven't had too much views than like in this thread, because it has turned into a community thread, not just mine that I use for myself. It is much more efficient to post my stories in one place since it is constantly updated and organized, but I would love to have a wider audience. So if you wish to read some of my ventures, here's the link: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/86006-ventures-of-a-wandering-soul-tips-tricks-thoughts/ If you'd like, here's an example of some of my writing in my thread, font, color and all: I can remember going to the stores, finding what you need, waiting in the checkout lines, then going home to enjoy your hotpockets that lead to eventual cancer, while watching TV and destroying valuable brain cells. Such is the American life. Unfortunately, in DayZ life and death isn't as predictable, and you don't always find what you need. Part One- Famine- Food. Water. Shelter. The basic needs for survival. As I walked on, my stomach growling, the urge to find food becomes great as the food icon turns from a yellow to a deep shade of orange. I was running out of time. I go through 3 towns until getting but 2 cans of food, the rest in carbonated beverages and water bottles. Finally, I come to a supermarket. As I desperately needed a backpack, this was a good thing. Although, I had heard a gunshot earlier. I wasn't sure how close it was, but I was on my toes. As I entered the supermarket, I found many supplies, some of which I needed, and some not. Oh yeah, and the guy who fired off the gun was hiding behind the counter. But I soon learned that it was my friend from yesterday, as I could hear him in game and in the call as well. I was relieved at this, but also realized I was being reckless, and that my lack of player experience is a real weakness. Before I even knew anyone was there, I had been looting. Only the sound of his voice alerted me to his presence. He soon told me that they had lost the truck when, soon after I had gone to bed, they were shot and killed while in the truck; most likely by hackers teleporting around the map. Saddened by this, we did all we could and continued on.

In my first month of playing DayZ, I never came across another player unless he was dead, and they were usually in groups of 3. I even played on crowded servers, with no avail. But... things seem to work out strangely for me. A few days ago, I started playing again. In the first few hours, I had met another player. He had come up to me and was standing right in front of me. Not thinking, I aimed my double-barrel toward him and he got spooked, firing the revolver into my leg, fracturing me. As we circled eachother, running and shooting at one another with zeds running in with all directions, the microphone was at the absolute back of my mind. There was no calming him down. So I shot. And shot. And shot. And missed every time. Eventually, we both separated ourselves. It got me thinking that either he snapped, or he was clever and planned this the whole time. But the story doesn't end there. In another life, I had just spawned in, and I hear a truck. I see it moving through the trees, and so I run toward it. I catch it only to see the transport vehicle bouncing away across the road. So I went the direction it went, in hope to catch it and ask for a ride. I didn't expect it to almost run over me. Sure enough, the guys inside picked me up, and we went for a ride. There was another in the back, and even though I didn't have a gun, he had an automatic rifle on his back. They let us take whatever we wanted from the trunk, excluding car parts, and even took me to the airfield to get an AKM. When I couldn't go in due to artifacting, he went in for me and brought out the exact weapon that he went in to get, with 3 mags. We hooked up in Skype later. It was so unique. Unfortunately, I died due to hackers. So I respawned, and started walking down the railroad in Balota, unarmed and completely visible. I was shot down before I even got 40 meters away from a building. And I was shot with 1, carefully placed shot to the chest, with a sniper rifle by someone I couldn't see. Things are different, and change fast. Anyway, if you want to read the full story plus a little more, click on the link in my signature. I'm sure it'll be worth your time.

How to stay in a "surrender" position?
metapaus replied to PixelatedBartek's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not familiar with this command, but I might suggest that instead of doing this, BEFORE you get caught, double tap left ctrl to lower your weapon. This makes you seem a bit more friendly, and people won't shoot you when you look at them. Though I will look into this when I have the chance, and if I have an answer, I'll return.
