First little look at the New DayZ map - Fallujah
metapaus replied to Aspects's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'd honestly say that your video is better than a LOT of others. You have a good personality for this kind of thing. One thing I'd suggest is to cut the video from running then to the chopper. That would be great, considering you ended up having to start singing to keep the mood from getting too dry. It was the bulk of the video, but it might be a bit necessary. the video overall wasn't too long, which is great. Some things you have to look for when posting videos are 1. what people want to get out the video they're watching, and then give it to them, and 2. how long is it. If the video is too long and doesn't capture your attention fully, a video showing first impressions should be under 10 minutes, or even 8. Before making the video, get your objective clear. If you say, want to show the community what the map is like, then you need to say things like "this place is flat" or some witty variant, followed by some effects of that, as in you could get shot very easily by anyone, and driving vehicles would be easier than anywhere else. If you want to show only your first impressions and don't really have a preference on the community, then you did great. I guess it comes down to whether you'd be a reviewer for others, a player for yourself, or both. Anyway, nice video, and pts for having a parrot (atleast it's not a freaking dog)! Also, where were the zombies? There seemed to be none on that video.... -
No, they look really, really, really good, and I've never been able to make ArmA look that good. I'd assume that, but really, trust to an extent is my basic instinct, I don't disbelieve someone unless I have a reason to. So that's why I asked.

Need someone to confirm this. They are nice pictures though, whether real from the game, taken in reality, or made some other way.

Ok, this is weird. I'm going to insert something from my thread on here, and you tell me if this sounds like what happened to you. 9/10/12- Warning Signs You go through the motions, you see the signs, you know the situation. Yet sometimes you ignore them. Sometimes you just let things happen, even if in the end you were right all along. Part One- The Old Bicycle 2- "Is anyone here? Look, I'm friendly, I'll gladly come out with my weapon drawn and we can be friendly, maybe exchange a few supplies." Click, click click. The sounds of boots on tile echoed throughout the hallway. "This is your final chance, if you do not respond to me, I will assume you are trying to hurt me, and you will be shot. Click, click, click. "I can hear you. Come any closer and you WILL be shot." Click, click, click. The noises slowly faded away, traveling out the building. Concerned, I look outside the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of whomever came to pay me a visit. Nothing. Slowly, I inched myself out into the doorway, and out into the hall. Expecting to be shot at any moment, I am surprised to see that no one was waiting for me. Not sure whether I had encountered a player or a zombie following me inside for a brief moment, I continue to loot the building. I loot, and loot, and loot, constantly watching my back, waiting for the threat of the player to come back and kill me. It wasn't until I got to the fire station that things got intense. I was getting chased by a zombie, and ran, trampling through the grass. I had gone to most every building except the firestation who's tower loomed before me. All the while I was looting I was sure that the player was holed up here, if there was another player. I ran into the fire station hot, only to see what made my blood run cold and my heartbeat quicken. It was the bike. The same bike I had been looking for when I spawned back in without it. It was in the lowest floor of the fire station. The player was here. With zombies on the down floor and heading in fast, I had no choice but to ascend. With each staircase I climb, I become more sure that the player is here, and that he's heard me. As I round to the next staircase, the last staircase, I take a deep breath. I can't say I was ready for what I saw next. A player was there, on the platform above the staircase entrance. He had an automatic weapon. There was a half-second pause. It felt like 3. I fired. He fired. We fired at the same time. It seemed like he had emptied a whole mag into me before anyone reacted. I had accepted death from the time I got up there. I was in third person firing a revolver using hipfire at his chest. Though I am sure I shot him atleast 3 times or not at all. At the end though, as I fell over, I saw the other player do the same. I presumed this was intentional, and I saw him move a little before this, which I assume was lag. So he might, or might not be dead. All I know is I gave him a chance, he refused, and atleast one of us wound up dead. I was aware of the signs. I ignored them. It was all or nothing, and for all I know, both sides got nothing. Even though I knew he was there, I went on. Even though I saw the signs, I continued on. This time, I want to try to survive. Listen to the signs. Heed to them. But I don't know. Maybe I'm attracted to action. Maybe I'm meant to engage. If so, then I need to get good at it. If this was you then this is a small world, I'd be freaked out, and I'd tell you that you were a big jerk for killing a guy that would've handed you an M19 for some beans. But you know, since I know you now if you are that guy I wouldn't be as mad.

Tomorrow. 9/14/12 We talk. That is if my ACRE ArmA clan doesn't need me on an op. Look forward to speaking with you! p.s. I might be a little nasally tomorrow, getting over some sickness (though not sure what I had/have)

Anyone notice how DayZ is becoming less and less survival oriented, and is now filled with PVP-ing CoD kiddies?
metapaus replied to ornatecocoapuff's topic in New Player Discussion
Oh.. I, uh.. meant in the other thread. I've always been supportive of customizing gear. Give players basic gear, access to a spectrum, and a few different tools and textures to put on them and you get really unique outfits. That's all you need, really. -

I'll admit, I'm guilty of this. Still, I remember how I was at 12 and I was freaking annoying. It's that awkward stage where you're getting too old for the tolerance to be annoying to be accepted. -
Hey! You have a blog/guide in your signature too!

WHO IS AWAKE, WHO IS ALIVE, ANYBODY WANT COMPANY?
metapaus replied to Rex Instigator's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh, I'm just trolling you anyway. I don't care if I die, I only really feel cheated if it was by a bug or hacker. Usually I'm satasfied because it was fun or I learned something. You want to play, add me on skype. Chris Dewhurst. I'll see what we can do from there. Oh ya, and if you can't play US or UK servers it probably won't work out the best. I'm primarily US. I might be able to cope to UK otherwise. Sorry if I wasn't clear on joking, bro! -
*shoots my winchester* Pewf! *shoots it again* Pewf!

metapaus replied to Rex Instigator's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh, Ok, let's play! I completely trust you and don't think you want to kill me at all! Hu? You see, the interesting thing about trust is that you don't trust bandits. And you could be a bandit. And so how can I trust you when you say you're not? -

Ya respond to me here but not in [The Cure]: An Introduction!? Even though we have similar goals and my post is right above yours? Notice me! Respond to me! Hear me! I'm going to cut myself! Oh... geez... sorry, that was my impression if I was crying for attention. But I'm clearly not..... No, but seriously, I'm not. -
But you know, I'm friendly and I haven't seen any bandits, so I don't hold myself too harshly for it.

After playing DayZ for a month, there was still a player who hadn't a kill yet? And... That player was me. :o :o :o :o :o

 What servers do you play on? The ones I play have no sort of "side chat" or ability to hear other players if they are out of vocal range. What is this witchcraft!? -

Talking to me? If you are, the point is that I really haven't run into any(CoD Kiddies). There was only one sniper shot, it was well placed, he was well hidden, and I could understand his motives. I wasn't running either. I was walking. Literally upright walking on the rails, and I was trying to take a picture with Steam. -
I want to help people too, but I need gear. I want to start something like the "Trusted Medics". I would call it the "Chernarus Coast Gaurd", which would basically patrol the coasts looking for survivors in need of assistance and gear, cleaning up bandits, and patrolling towns and of course; giving medical attention. Anyone in on that? You'd have to start completely from scratch considering I have no vehicles. Though I do have pretty good gear except in weapons and ammo. Any endorsements (in beans), support, or application?

Why are DayZ players so hated? They aren't, but they are ridiculed. This guy is a biggot, for sure, and is most likely fueled by an overexaggeration of other's and his own opinions, or had some horrible experience with a DayZ player beforehand. To say the truth, we'll never know. He's probably really pleasant and nice otherwise. I started playing ArmA for DayZ. I had never heard of ArmA until DayZ. DayZ was one of the games I had been waiting to come out for a long while, like a lot of others. One day I ventured into the vanilla ArmA side, and was intrigued. It was new, different, confusing, interesting, and it was fun. I am now in a realism clan for the game who uses ACE and ACRE. I still play DayZ, but I can follow orders from them very well already, even with only going through boot camp covering expectations and basic commands. I even helped tremendously with an unofficial operation, and was thanked by the leader for that mission. My best guess why they did this is that they feel as though they are real ArmA players because they played ArmA because they liked ArmA, not because they liked DayZ and found ArmA on the side. They feel like they have a right to be there, more than anything, and that's true in most or all cases, even if it's not the conscious and fueling thought of their actions. And they feel like you don't. It's basically why DayZ and ArmA players alike don't like CoD players. Atleast that's my opinion. And you know opinions, they can't be wrong, because if you think that, it's just your opinion.

Well, I can't match all your stories of murder and killing. But I was hoisted to the moon by some guy talking to Alice, twice, and ended up with an AS50 and tons of supplies that were left in my incapable hands when I switched servers. Phrase of the Day: Sh*t happens.

Meant to say I was unarmed, lol. Thanks for the catch, been at school, sick, and writing all day, so I appreciate it. I'll fix that now, so I don't look like a jerk. -
I didn't even think of the stuff people were posting! You can see what others you have killed have done, if they have made a checklist, notes or ect! Diagnosis would be really a lot easier in-game if players' life was logged. Also, I propose ripping pages out of other player's journals. Basically, what this does is it takes all the pages written on out of a player's journal and would make them available for you to view, and clip them to your own. It would also not let anyone else read the journal from now on, if kept on the player body. What do you think of that mechanic?

The only firehouse I saw had any had barbed wire over it, so I couldn't get in. There were 2 there, one with a scope, but EVERY time I've been in a fire house besides that never had a primary weapon. Never. I'm serious. This is where I got this assumption, and I'm not over-exaggerating. I guess I'm really unlucky there then, even if it's untouched loot.
