Looking for a group/friends {est}
metapaus replied to MC900FooTJesus's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Hello there, I'm starting an activist group that goes around patrolling Chernarus, shooting bandits, helping survivors and having adventures. If you're interested, go here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/95340-chernarus-coast-guard-ccg-recruting/ and if you have questions, PM me here, or you can usually find me on TeamSpeak at ts.dayzmedics.com as "Chris". Thanks! BTW, the teamspeak is the Trusted Medics, so we're not going to try to kill you. Today, I saw this guy getting mauled by zombies, killed them, gave him a bandage and painkillers and helped him up. He was trying to commit suicide, unfortunately. -
I know you say add you on Steam, but adding you on Steam, then telling you about it, then you telling me about it isn't that efficient. If you'd like, look at my thread and tell me if you interested in the standards put up. If you have questions, talk to me in a PM. Here's the link if you're interested: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/95340-chernarus-coast-guard-ccg-recruting/

Hey there! I'm starting a protector activist group. What it is, is we go around Chernarus and patrol, looking for bandits to kill, players to save, and all of the above. If you don't like that, you can still pair up with your designated partner and do whatever you want, as long as you contribute to the group a little bit, like maybe throwing a DMR mag or two in camp. Read more here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/95340-chernarus-coast-guard-ccg-recruting/

I don't want to start this alone :(
metapaus replied to Cuhddles's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
If you'd like, take a look at the thread for my protector activist group. Basically it'd be like a realism clan, except not as incredibly serious and you still get to play like you want to. Here's the link: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/95340-chernarus-coast-guard-ccg-recruting/ -
There's a lot of guys here already trying to get you to join their group, but if you'd like, take a look at my thread. Trying to start a protector activist group, basically patrolling Chernarus like BAs, killing bandits, rescuing survivors, and having adventures. Check it out. http://dayzmod.com/f...-ccg-recruting/

How to make the zombies more of a threat, by only changing a few small things.

Fun-fun! -
Since this thread was already here, I decided to use it for a new problem I have encountered. I recently wiped my computer clean. I uninstalled Win 32 and installed Win 64 on a completely clean install. I then upgraded to Win 7 with nothing on the Win 64 OS besides default files. So I go install Steam, and try to install ArmA 2, and ArmA: OA. The first time I had been interchanging between downloads, so I understood when it said some of the things inside the game were messed up when I tried to run it. Ok, so I go install it again after clicking "delete local content", this time letting ArmA 2 completely install before starting Arrowhead. Now ArmA 2 will let me play with no errors, but OA still has some errors. It says something about there being a .cfg bin missing, then tries to run, goes to a black screen, and says I'm missing some shadow files after closing. I'll post the complete and exact issues tomorrow, because I don't have enough time to look at them now because I'm supposed to be in bed. Anyway, Play With Six tells me the CD key isn't registered with the game and to run both programs once before installing DayZ. I did try to run the programs originally without DayZ, but I thought installing it might do some magic and it would work. Sadly, no. I checked around a bit for this issue and did not find anything. I'd appreciate some feedback!

Tales of a Wandering Soul [Tips, Tricks, & Thoughts]
metapaus posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Long time no see, fellow survivors! I'm back with the all-new "Logbook 2" A.K.A. Tales of a Wandering Soul, bigger and better than ever! For all the newbies finding this thread, let me say congratulations. Congratulations because you, and all the rest of the DayZ community have been chosen to accompany me on my adventures across Chernarus. Pleasure to have you aboard. If you want to read the original Logbook, you can go here!:http://dayzmod.com/f...-tips-thoughts/ If you want a summary on what this post is about, S C R O L L D O W N The Logbook 2- Welcome to my thread. Here, I only wish to give to the community the ability to learn from my mistakes, follow in my achievements, and entertain with some quality form of media. Here is where I track my victories, defeats, accomplishments, ventures- my logbook.... 9/3/12- A New Beginning 9/4/12- Shopping 9/5/12- The HAX! 9/6/12- Mistakes Were Made 9/7/12- Skinny Pete After we looted the building across the street, we meet another survivor who seemed unhappy that he could not kill us. He didn't have a weapon, and that was probably why. We met at the supermarket, in which I then had to go. I was disappointed. We were about to go to the factory. Part Two- The Bandit Skin- I spawned in. I see a body. I go over to it. I check his name. He wasn't one of my friends. I loot him. A zombie somehow sees me in the window. He comes in. The zombie bugs out. I eventually kill him. I use a bandage on myself, and pick up the zombie's soda can. Through the corner of my eye, I see movement. I see a bandit. He looks at me straight in the eye. I have time to say "wh-" before he fires and kills me. 9/8/12- Sticks & Stones A mass grave, completely made of players. I begin to run. As I weave around the houses, I spot the nearest chance of survival: a log cabin. I go inside, and start to loot the nearby gear. Now, I hear the sound of another player on the microphone. I didn't have a weapon. It was either die without his help, die with his help, or get out with his help. With those 3 options, and seeing a zombie enter through the doorway where I was laying down behind a table, I remember all the dead bodies on the railroad I had seen. I shuddered, and gave him my position. I wait, watching the zombie slowly prod forward. After he didn't turn and leave, I knew he saw me. I get up, and run toward the door, dodging his hits. Once I get there, I'm welcomed to see the other player run in the house, say "Oh shit!" Then run back out. The other kitchen zombie had moved closer, and scared him. As I try to run out after him, the kitchen zombie and the zombie he left behind block the door. In no time flat I have 2 broken legs and a fracture. I crawl away from the zombies, bleeding profusely, disappointed. I bandage myself, which I shouldn't have done. I take some painkillers, and in some time my fracture is gone. The zombies have now left me alone, with my self on just about no blood, seeing black and white. I tell him on the mic that he should come take my matches when I die. I hope he realized he was the reason I died. If he hadn't been so stupid and dumped those zombies on me, I would've had a chance. I go out in the middle of the road, and I start to feel neglected. No zombies come to finish me off. Finally, two zombies come back, running toward me. I'm utterly in awe when they start to walk away. So I lay down, to go catch up to them and try again, begging for mercy that they may end me quick, because I know I won't survive. The player I saw earlier hadn't come back yet, and I was getting frustrated. I lay back down to go move toward the zombies. Suddenly, as I lay, a Zed starts beating my face in. I rage a little in my mind. Just raging. I pass out, and watch the zombie eat me. As I wake, I decide to go back in the house so the player that killed me can get my corpse with no problem from zombies. I go back into the room where he had sealed my fate, stood up, and immediately died. I had three options. Die with his help, die without his help, or get away. Turns out, there was a fourth. Die FROM his help. The curtain fade to black, and the words pop up on the screen. "You Are Dead". "I know." I said and exited the game. 9/9/12- You Are Dead I try to get on it, and am dumbfounded when my player doesn't seem to get on it. A stray zombie that had been following on all fours catches up and swipes at me. It just so happens that it makes me bleed. Coincidentally, after this happened my player finally decided to get on the bike, so I was stuck driving down near the peer before patching myself up. I had to go, so I saved the bike and hoped it would be on the server when I got back. This, is the start of something great. You put a gun in my hands, you get a bunch of dead zombies and an eventual mistake that leads to my death. You put a bike at my feet... well... we'll see as time goes by. 9/10/12- Warning Signs It was the bike. The same bike I had been looking for when I spawned back in without it. It was in the lowest floor of the fire station. The player was here. With zombies on the down floor and heading in fast, I had no choice but to ascend. With each staircase I climb, I become more sure that the player is here, and that he's heard me. As I round to the next staircase, the last staircase, I take a deep breath. I can't say I was ready for what I saw next. A player was there, on the platform above the staircase entrance. He had an automatic weapon. There was a half-second pause. It felt like 3. I fired. He fired. We fired at the same time. It seemed like he had emptied a whole mag into me before anyone reacted. I had accepted death from the time I got up there. I was in third person firing a revolver using hipfire at his chest. Though I am sure I shot him atleast 3 times or not at all. At the end though, as I fell over, I saw the other player do the same. I presumed this was intentional, and I saw him move a little before this, which I assume was lag. So he might, or might not be dead. All I know is I gave him a chance, he refused, and atleast one of us wound up dead. I was aware of the signs. I ignored them. It was all or nothing, and for all I know, both sides got nothing. Even though I knew he was there, I went on. Even though I saw the signs, I continued on. This time, I want to try to survive. Listen to the signs. Heed to them. But I don't know. Maybe I'm attracted to action. Maybe I'm meant to engage. If so, then I need to get good at it. 9/11/12- Assumptions I entered the supermarket to find another man lying on the ground between the window and the shelf. There were no bullet holes in the window, showing that he had not been shot outside the store. Further inspection of his gear prompted that since he had a weapon, he had most likely been the one to kill the players lying outside. The fact that he still had food and water said that he was either swarmed by zombies, or died of blood loss. I shivered, and was wondering how far off I was to be one of those guys lying outside in the sun as well. The least this meant was that I was safe unless there was another killer around. Grabbing supplies, I left the supermarket and continued on. As I near the hospital, I start to hear flies. I assume there is a dead player either inside or on the roof. Breaking the glass with my crowbar, I grab medical supplies, and do not find a body. I then proceeded to the back of the hospital, where the sound was louder, and climbed on to the roof. There was suspense in the atmosphere, but alas, there was no body. As I planted my feet on the ground and turned around, I see the body, wedged in between a fence and a brick column. Seeing his supplies, it seems safe to say he had been looted, so I needed to watch out. As I went across the street to the school, I start to hear more flies. Room after room I check, popping on the microphone to ask if anyone is there, trying to sound calm. On the second floor the sound grows louder. I imagined the body would be on this floor or the roof. Nothing on both. This was a warning sign. Since there was nothing on the third floor either, that means a player hid the body, which means that he's well equipped and didn't need any more of the loot, and his camp is nearby and he didn't want anyone to notice the body. Or he was a passerby that didn't want to leave a trail. Which assumption do you think is safer? My heart starts pounding. I could be getting stalked. As I explore the town, I find no evidence of any camp. Finally, I go to the powerplant. I walked in the garage door, and see two tents next to eachother. For a second, I froze. I hear flies nearby. Unwanting to repeat the same mistake, I call on the microphone asking whether anyone is there. I tell him I'll leave if he asks, and that I'm friendly. Since he doesn't answer, I start to ascend. I had checked the tower beforehand with binoculars and by climbing to the roof and looking. Everything seemed clear. When I got to the second-to-top floor, I see a body. It's floating. All I could assume was that someone tried to hide it, whether it be the camp owner or a killer of the camp owner. Since the body was "hidden" and I couldn't loot it, that's all I could assume. Remembering the account in "The Old Bicycle 2" I start to wonder if this could have been my old body. I went to a barn to hole-up until tomorrow, a bit shaken up from today's events. 9/12/12-Psyche Trip 9/13/12- When Luck Keeps Rolling... and Falls of the Roof 9/14/12- Friendly 9/15/12- The Quarry 9/16/12- Road Trip! 9/17/12- On The Coast... Unfortunately screenshots have been discontinued until I can run ArmA on Steam again. Since I had to re download it, hopefully it applied the newest beta-patch and I can play it through Steam once more. I loved taking them, seeing as how it added a more 3-D feel to the log and so everyone could see I wasn't lying through my teeth about these things. It seems though, that when you're really into it, you kinda forget to take the pics when it really matters. -

I believe you can play it with the newest DayZ patch, correct me if I'm wrong. You just need to find a server that runs it. You can find them easily on DayZ commander, but you can also find them on the ArmA and Six Launcher server browser menus. -

Click my signature. Read a bit. Anyway, yeah, back on topic. Distracting zombies? What about the church bell? Fires might be nice to give as a distraction. Break a window WITH a can? Set of a broken car's alarm. Those seem pretty good to me. -
Advanced Character Customization: Know Your Identity
metapaus replied to Thunderous Thrust's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've always said this kind of thing was great, but you got me thinking more. Here's my version. Before you spawn in, you are given choices as to what you want. You can wear hats, masks, glasses, shirts, jackets, pants, socks, shoes, hairstyles/skin color, and make-up. Say we give players some basic articles of clothing. Then we add some patterns you can put on them. And give them color palettes and allow them to color the pattern. What have we got? We have: 1. Uniforms- Hell ya! 2. Identity- No way am I mistaking my teammate with a bandit douche anymore. 3. Personality- Yep. 4.Callsigns- Say friendlies wore white bandanas in that server? 5. Disguises- Take their clothes and wear them, impersonating them. This might be done more on women than men. (cross-dressing would be cool) 6. Basic camo- Always good. 7. You got what you wanted- There's nothing better. Examples of hats- beanies, baseball caps, jeff caps, fadoras, cowboy hats, berets, and skullcap, hardhat, hood (needs hoodie). Say now you can put decals on some of these. Examples of masks- half-mask, balclava, scarf, gasmask, surgeon mask, scarf, ski-cap, welding mask. Examples of glasses- sunglasses, safety goggles, ski-goggles, prescription glasses, monicle. Examples of wigs- clown wig, toupee, anime, bald cap. Examples of shirts- collared, polo, tank-top, t-shirt, flannel -Longsleeves- basically the same & sweatshirt/sweaters. Examples of jackets- hoodie, vest, winter jacket, rain coat, wind-breaker, military, leather jacket. Examples of pants- shorts, cargos, jeans, sweatpants, chinos, trousers. Examples of socks- really? Examples of shoes- tennis, sneakers, boots, rainboots, hiking, athletic, cleats, basketball, sandals, flip-flops- barefoot. Include a spectrum as well as palettes, and patterns such as- tiger stripe, plaid, cross-stitch, victorian, stripe, camo, paint-splatters. Decals such as- words and letters for sports teams, symbols like animals and vehicles ect. Details such as- rips, tears, patches, distressed, wrinkles, dirt, burns, ect. That and then basic to advanced facial customization. Amazing. -

In another post, a comment about how you think that players are the problem of DayZ. Holy mother-fucking god, yes. But wait, there's more. Ever notice how in video games, there's some antagonist making your life a living hell? Take Cortex from Crash, or say Wesker from Resident Evil. Maybe The Legion/NCR/Mr. House from Fallout. These things are what make the game. DayZ isn't about zombies. Zombies are just there to keep you captivated until you come across another player. Think about it, without these players, all your experience would be is going around Chernarus, looting places and shooting zombies. You would basically never die, and never have to much worry as long as an enterable building was nearby. You see, players are a risk. The risk gives you thrill. The fact that it could happen just makes it interesting. When it does happen, things heat up. Say you get killed. Oh fucking well. It got you. What was better? Having that risk and enjoying it or not having it at all and the game being dull? But you won't always fail. Once you get your first win, you might start to see the fun in it. So you say that it might be fun if not everyone shot you on site. Well, they shot you on site. That meant they saw you. I dunno, but the only person who ever shot me was a bandit and some guy that I knew was there but I didn't see. That's the risk when you go into these towns. If you want better weapons, go to the airfields for god sake. -

Hello, my friend! Never fear, there are those among us who have your back. Though I cannot call myself one, I have been conversing with TMW (Trusted Medics of the Wasteland) lately. If you ever have a broken leg, are low on blood, need anti-biotics, or need to be gaurded when heading into town, join the TeamSpeak3 server @ ts.dayzmedics.com, and don't be afraid to ask for help. TMW members will have [TMW] by their name, but there are also plenty of non-TMW members looking to help patients so they can get into TMW. Make sure after your treated you get your medic's name and go post on the forums or talk to Dr. Wasteland M.D. and tell him how they did. It helps a lot! These guys are great, and I've even got treated by them a few times. Anyway, time to contribute to the main idea of your thread. You ask what will make the players stop hording weapons? You. You are a player, they are a player. I'm sorry to say, but no one will be coming to your rescue when it comes to these mechanics. It's up to us players to provide intervention. Want those weapons? You've got to sneak up on them and take them, show them how it's done. A Makarov can be as deadly as a CZ if you use it correctly. -
Yes and no. Should there be random group respawns? Possibly. I'd say it shouldn't be like: My friend is already in Noby, so I just have to respawn again and he'll be right next to my dead body. No. I think that wherever the spawns are you have the potential to respawn with your friend, meaning you are both dead as a doorknob and are coming into the game. But really, when you suggest this you also are suggesting adding some sort of system for this, whether it be player tracking or a friend system, which are a bit iffy and could alter some things negatively. So I say just leave it alone. People already have private comms out-of-game.

How to make the zombies more of a threat, by only changing a few small things.
metapaus replied to Hello moto's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I understand what you're saying, but I tend to hold myself tighter. You see, to me, DayZ gives as much as you give. So when I die, I leave ALL my gear, regardless. Once, I gathered 4 tents and filled them to the brim with weapons, ammo, medical supplies, food and water, just from Cherno. I died because zombies broke my leg and I passed out, so when I awoke not only were the zombies blocking me from moving but there was a wall on the other side. I left that stuff there. A Remmington, a few AKs and tons of ammo, about 3 Makarovs, a few revolvers and M1911s, some Enfields, double-barrels, Winchesters (I was currently trying to supply a small army that we were organizing) but I just left it there. It's not because I have some sort of "honor code" or anything. It's because once I go back and get that stuff, it just isn't fun. It doesn't feel right. I even did it once. Next time I played I killed myself right off the bat. So cheaters, hackers, glitchers... don't really make sense to me, why you would set yourself up with the best in the game and not actually have the satisfaction earning it, then be bored because you've nothing to do. But that permanant death factor is still there for me, and it just makes it all the more fun. When I say, "Oh well, time to respawn.", it isn't that simple. First I take a gander at what I did and how I got there. Then, I see what I should have done differently. Then I think if I'll do that next time. Am I disappointed? Yes. Am I a little angry? Of course. Do I still fear death in-game as much as any other rage-kid out there who throws his computer down the stairs? Hell-fucking-yes. But every single time I have died (not to a bug) I have been able to say, "That was fun. Truly fun." You are going to die. There is no way around it. You need to prepare, and you need to be ready. And you need to accept it, so you can enjoy it. Because if you don't like getting there all over again, you'll never see it to its true potential. Every time you respawn it's a different story. Every time it's an adventure. Part of that is your end, making these things happen. Part of it is the inconsistency of DayZ. So don't fucking whine. -

Yeah, I agree. I'm always scared to lose my stuff, always scared to die, and always watching out. But when I do die, I don't want to throw my computer out the window. What I want to do is get right back in the game and do better than I did before. Either that or drink some water and sit on the couch, if it was pretty traumatizing. -

Where are these people? I have been to Cherno and Elektro literally tons of times, physically running through the streets with zombies on my tail, other times crouched and inching along crossing the road near hospitals, schools, fire stations and everything on high-pop servers with absolutely no snipers anywhere. Even in the industrial area. Well once, but he was TMW, and I talked to him on TS. I only got killed in those towns twice by a player. Once by a guy with a revolver after exiting a building, and the other I got myself killed going up the fire station when I knew there was a player up there indefinitely, and did nothing to contact him. Even so, if there's a sniper in the town, I'd do my best to go take him out. It seems fun to me to have someone aiming for you and going from building to building, dodging to get up to where he is, then take him out. Not to mention he was probably a bandit and he was a douche. Plus to my ego and humanity. If I get killed, oh well, it was fun. I think some people should stop looking at it as a chore or some annoyance, and look at it as fun. Stop stressing over your gear and your person. When you are in that town and you get into an encounter and you die, all you really need to be sure of is that when it happens, you can say it was fun while it lasted. -

I agree with you what you say about player interaction. Though I don't really agree with you on the survival comment, I digress. What I can't wrap my finger around is the fact that the bulk of DayZ is other players. Surviving them, fighting them, helping them. The point is to have some driving force to keep you going and keeping you alert. Those are the other players, who have just the capability to kill you with a Makarov if you have a Remmington. Your goal is to get the best gear than everyone else so you can survive these players. I don't understand the people who go off in their own little worlds on low-pop servers so they can skip the player part. Then what are you surviving? What's your goal? It's like playing Monopoly by yourself. You've already got right of passage everywhere. No penalties, no way to lose money. The only set back is going to jail or those dang iffy chance cards. Players are your source for fun. Without them, it's just some dank, dark, boring and slow zombie sandbox. It's a lot more fun to have the threat there and not have it happen than to eliminate it entirely. Then when it does happen, it's still fun. And it's even more fun when you win. Just the other day, met a guy in Cherno. We ran into eachother. Literally. In a field, just bumped into eachother. I had an Winchester on my back and he had a Winchester too. I lowered my weapon. He didn't. I had more supplies and a better backpack than he did. He didn't shoot me. We went to the medical tents and I picked up and AK, and he still didn't shoot me. I gave him a blood transfusion. I got the hero skin then. Later on, I found camo clothing. I gave it to him after coming back from the fire station with a Remmington. He still did not kill me, even though he still had a Winchester. What are you so scared of? Death is temporary, and loot is expendable. Explain to me why you go on low-pop servers and for a reason besides not wanting to deal with other players killing you (and besides lag). -

That already happens. I've noticed that when I've been hiding in buildings and their about to come up to it, they'll yell "Gragh! Kyolargh!" and more zombies will start to hitch on. Also, making animals be finite is a bad idea. Why? Because there would be a ton of animals if this was actually persay reality in DayZ. You wouldn't see 1 or 2 cows, you would see 8 and another set in close proximity, and with the fact that animals can't reproduce in-game (which spawning simulates) everything goes away quickly and never returns. Animals are more a way to get blood when you don't have a friend. Making them finite closes a lot of doors. -
How to make the zombies more of a threat, by only changing a few small things.
metapaus replied to Hello moto's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A few things to change to make zombies more a threat, huh? Here's some: -Make zombies roam in packs. In just about every game or movie, zombies are seen as a giant horde. I think it would be useful to have more zombies clumped together, though still have those strays. This basically makes it so you agro one zombie, you agro the whole group. These zombies are called "roamers". -Include zombie hunters. In the forest, as you say, there are no zombies. Correct. In my opinion, zombies are easy to kill once in the forest. Simply run up any hill, make them walk, then run away or kill them while they're fairly still. So why not have zombies that instead of when they find you they run after you, they try and find you? -Establish group tactics. When you're in a building, fighting off zombies, they usually just slump around and go the same way, or go the other way by accident. Say you had them work together to corner the player? Same when running, they split off in attempt to interject you and cut off routes of escape. Of course, this is very arguable, since some might say zombies are too stupid. I just say it's like hunting instinct. -Add risk of infection. Zombies spent all day and night in the sun and rain, outside. On top of that, they're rotting. Nothing makes you run faster than the fact you could get a horrible flesh-eating disease and die horribly, am I right? No amount of blood bags fixes that. How I see this is that zombies are like the filler. Basically, DayZ is designed to be you up against the players, correct? Zombies are an entertainment factor, keeping you entertained when no players are around. This is why it confuses me when people decide they want to play on low pop servers. It makes no sense. Though some people as you encourage zombie development, it is not the main driving factor of DayZ, so we can't let it become that. It's just an obstacle in the long run. Basically what I mean by this is as long as all of the changes rocket or the community wants regarding zombies is to make the game more fun and doesn't take away from player interaction, then I think it's a welcome addition.
