    Dynamic lighting has gone screwy

    I'm having the same troubles since the latest beta patch also, I noticed it last night. I'm used to dark nights, I also know how to adjust my brightness so I can see somewhat well at night, but last night was the darkest i've ever seen it. So much so that even with both brightness/gamma absolutely maxed, I still couldn't even make out the front post on my winchester. Everything was just blobs of black. The only saving grace was that some buildings were extremely bright as if they were emitting light themselves, so I could make out silhouettes. I don't think this is an issue of the OP bitching about the night being too dark or anything, it's more of an issue that the lightning engine in this game is broken. I haven't been able to play in the daytime yet, but i'm wondering if that massive bloom spike problem is still in, I used to run into it a lot during the day time running through the woods, i'd be looking a certain direction and the brightness would just slowly ramp up until it looked like a nuke had gone off in the woods, then looking away it would go back to normal. At first I thought it was just the effect of looking at the sun, till I realized I was going down a hill and staring at dirt.

Something i've always thought would be a neat addition, when the bell goes off in the church I think it should attract zombies within the range of the sound, might make things very interesting when you're looting a city and all the zombies suddenly make a mad dash down the street (or at least stumble in that direction)

    Small Suggestion - Church

    Cool glad you guys like the idea. I was hoping that this sort of thing would make it in, along with some other 'events' that change up the way the zombie population acts, maybe a ship horn on the docks going off randomly that would add an element of danger, lighthouse powering up, maybe somehow incorporate a really great loot area in one of the military bases, but in order to breach it, you have to trigger an air raid siren which sets off the entire place zed wise. Just my 2 cents :D

    As a person who spends a lot of time terrified in a corner listening to the sounds of the undead, i'd like to inquire as to how Mr Manning made these sounds, i'd like to think he doesn't have a pack of rabid velociraptors in his back yard to record for reference...

    I wasn't insulting you, I was just saying your suggestion is unnecessary at best. The scenarios and problems you are imagining up are just that, imaginary. If it were such a huge problem, there would of been thread after thread of people complaining about this. So we start out with basic medical supplies, and there are those of you who are saying this is breaking immersion because who carries morphine with them. Well there's also a huge amount of US military grade weapons laying around the island which is based on the Czech Republic. Where's all the slav weapons at? You could nitpick the system all day, you could take basic supplies away and only give the starting player a gun and ammo, and then people would complain that its too hard to get a foothold in the game. You could leave it at is, and you could have a player poaching newly spawned players for their meds, and while hes looting it a new player could run up and put his makarov to his head and bam, he just earned himself some better gear. The whole system is dependent on how far you've been inland, because there have been plenty times i've been way out with broken legs and nothing to fix it with, and had to drag my body for over an hour. Sure theres tons of supplies in the city and near the coast (as it should be), but up north you're lucky to find some pills, let alone morphine and blood.

    ....But they aren't a target for their medical supplies. This is the first time i've seen a person complain of people poaching newbies for their 'precious' bandages and morphine. Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them a troll or an elitist.

[/quote'] Aww theres plenty of love to go around. Don't get mad. I simply like his statement about the influx of people lately who want to adjust the game to their liking, rather than taking the game at face value and learning to adapt. I've never shot a beach comber for their pills or supplies, most of the time I spend my hours far away from the beach, and when I think of medical supplies my first thought is hospitals, like most of us who play this mod. If anything is ignorant here, it was you talking about everyone else not getting your meaning as if you're on another plane of enlightenment or something. Frankly, we get your idea, it's just..... bad.
  14. Incorrect. I never use it in a combat scenario. I literally only use it when I'm on a long hike, and that's it. I know of other players that do this as well. However, I realize that a majority of the people using third person use it to be more aware of their surroundings. If third person view is left, and crosshairs disabled, it would put people using it as an "exploit" at a disadantage (in theory), as they would now have to peek around a corner in third person, then switch to first person to be able to aim, taking up an extra second or two of their time. Then you are one of the very few who don't. Also, to be more aware of your surroundings? Am I the only one who constantly looks around in first person mode to keep an eye on things? Is there not a feature to move just your head included in the game? Even without crosshairs its still an unfair advantage, leaning is there for a reason too.

    No. That was not what I was implying with my post at all. Completely irrelevant in every possible way. This sounds like a definitive statement, wasn't aware we had a community leader When was it ever impossible? Not sure if you've noticed, but rocket is quite fond of the 'difficult' aspect of the game. Not only is ARMA one of the most TERRIBLE games to pick up and play learning curve-wise, but it's controls and UI are clunky and outdated. If you make it past all that, then you've paid your dues. What's wrong with bringing back a little old-school aspect to a game that just tosses you in and gives you a weapon and tells you to figure it out? The discomfort should be there. It's a zombie filled wasteland. I'd be confused too if I woke up on a beach with a handgun and some beans and no sense of where the hell I was at, but that's the entire point. If rocket would of intended to be easier he would of just started us out with a map (which ironically enough still wouldn't tell us where every bit of loot was) Two things come to mind here, one being that Counterstrike has never needed 'pulling back up', that game has survived this long without any help from a wiki or a guide, plain and simple. It's an example of a game with a strong community and solid gameplay. I think you read a little too much into my post. Comparing this game to any other game for one, is your first mistake. The entire appeal of this game is the difficulty. Difficulty that resides in surviving. My entire post was not to say that those of us who played this game earlier are superior, i'm simply saying there was a certain magic to that method of learning. Any arrogance you read is something you perceived on your own. All your strawmans non-withstanding, I respect your opinion. But I strongly believe that this is the type of game where people should be helping eachother ingame, and making some sort of resource to hold their hand through the whole game only detracts from the overall experience that you're supposed to get.
  17. Posts like this illustrate the problem with the current server model. Using people to host servers in an mmo-esque cloud setup is only going to cause more of this to occur over time.
  18. Just came here looking for info on this, in main cities theres no zombies (even with zombie population count of 150+) and the only loot to be found is tons of backpacks. I found 4 alice packs in the same building even.

    Whats your Reason?

    I started out trying to co-operate with a few people. It went relatively well, until I had two guys who attempted to gun me down at a gas station after I picked up a supply they wanted. Unfortunately they were terrible shots and I ended up getting bandit status after killing them both. Ever since then its been a vicious cycle of having to shoot first to survive since everyone guns for you no questions asked when you are a bandit. tl;dr I'm a bandit and I just want love :(

    I remember when I started playing, and there was the thrill of not knowing where I was going, having to memorize locations by landmarks and such. Now people have customized maps telling them where to go for what loot. Where's the fun?
