    November Round-up

    1st person is the immersion breaker. In 1st person its far to easy to forget if you're squatting or standing, walking or running. These are things you would never forget in reality and can only be simulated with 3rd person. Until the Oculus Rift is available and I can have free form looking around, mainly including looking down and seeing my self to get at least some sort of feel for where my body is, 3rd person is the only way to give you a sense of self within the environment. Otherwise I feel like I'm merely watching someone with a helmet cam on and have no immersion at all.
  4. I think it's much cheaper (computer resource wise) to have pre-rendered walking animations and making even 10s of these would probably start to cause performance issues.
  5. In reality you base your recognition of someone from many things, of course facial features are a large portion of that and customizable in game, but body shape, walking gait and just how people carry them selves are also large parts of identification that are all identical in the game as it currently is. This makes it very difficult to actually recognize people as it would be in real life without some gamified way to help (ie nameplates) I'd rather they were not needed, but just like the argument between 1st and 3rd person, there are some parts of the environment that are just not able to be reproduced faithfully in a way that would make a full 1st person experience as realistic as at first it seems it should be. Perhaps support for the Oculus Rift will help with that part at least.

    Seriously though, does this mean the alpha is happening?! No, it does not. Bummer, I was hoping there would be an alpha at some point.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7.1 Hotfix

    I was playing and zombies were all over the place spawning out of no where, dropping in from above, just appearing out of thin air. There were zombies that came out from under ground. Is that a new feature? buried while infected then climb out of the ground? Then they started multiplying right in front of me. First there'd be one, then two then four. I was hacking them down with the machete at this point as I was completely out of ammo. Then a Ural showed up and about 16 zombies got out the back and bum rushed me. I totally got like 10 of them when the other 6 pulled out SAWs and started shooting me. This patch is totally too hard.

    Zombies hit you from 5-10ft away - bug Zombies knock you down like every 2nd hit - feature Zombies still glitch through objects - bug Zombies still hit you through walls -bug/feature I haven't seen this except at windows Zombies infect you far to often - feature Many Zombies are just bugged, standing around like frozen - bug nearly no antibiotics spawning - was this intentional? I would say it was a little sparse so bug all loot-spawns are messed up (nearly not usable loot) - feature? FPS-Drops - haven't seen it, actually runs better for me than previous Pitching Tents is buggy - not seen Making fireplaces is "laggy" / delayed - not seen Tents dupe stuff again - again or still? Vehicles dupe stuff again - again or still? Giving Bloodbags gets your kicked - bug fixed Crashsites often got no loot - bug? not sure Crashsite-Loot is spread like 50m around it - feature Crashsite zombies often spawn more then 50m away from it - probably bug

    Will it be possible to seamlessly stitch servers and their maps together so you can travel from one server to another by car, boat or foot?

  12. This would be awesome. The non-hud visual side effect could be that all the female skins get hotter and wear less clothes the more time you go between taking care of business. And your focal point could constantly drift towards their cleavage.

  14. sure would be nice if you could have one server hand your character over to another so you could travel between maps almost seamlessly. Could put Taviana out east of Charnarus. Then you have to find a boat to get there. Would also be nice to have a ferry boat that you could take cars on!!

    I haven't seen the episode yet where they all get together and say, "Let's go down to the beach and pwn some noobs!" Killing should have consequences. It does in real life. It should in game too. It should not be random and indiscriminate. If you fire a gun it should be dangerous and attract many zombies. Killing that person needs to be worth the risk, and that risk should be high.

    I'd really like to see different motions for different people. Maybe motion capture a few different people's walking giant. Also some variation in height and build of the models to make people a little more distinguishable from each other.

    Will there be an animation that can happen when a player picks something up? Would be nice to be able to see which person is taking the items out of a lot pile. Either an arm reach out or even just a floating object up to the players chest and disappears.
  19. I have been trying to get a grip on how the BattleEye scripts work. On my private hive server I have the BaseBuilding 1.0 code installed and 3-4 of the items will kick you with either create vehicle restriction #37 or create vehicle restriction #40. As an example, one of the items is: "Land_CamoNetB_NATO" I look around line 40 (actually 41) in createvehicle.txt and I do find the line: 5 "B_" Which would kind of make sense. Now how do I disable the kick for one particular item? I have tried: 5 "B_" !="Land_CamoNetB_NATO" To no avail. Is there something else I need to do or am I just way off base with the above? Thanks in advance

I haven't seen it mentioned but, the only part of the anti Alt-f4 thing that I don't like is if you are casually hanging out at your camp perhaps doing some target practice right before you head to bed it might kill you...I'd much rather see a live avatar, frozen in place for 30 seconds that can be killed by other players.
