I think PAX was definitely worth a lack of two devblogs, considering how much information it showed us. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
gesundheitk replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I consider us somewhat of the official forum, but in my eyes, we're both just equal forums supporting a game. The reason why I tend to use this forum more than r/dayz is because of how I feel that this forum was developed solely for DayZ and feel more comfortable here. That's just me, though. -

Yes, but these aren't trained killers. They're pretty average people who managed to survive a zombie apocalypse, I don't think people are really used to unholstering a rifle so quickly, at least without stumbling once or twice. I can imagine more experienced users, yes, so maybe overtime the rifle unholster animation gets slightly quicker the longer you hold it? The mod's version is a bit too slow for my liking. The one in ArmA 3 feels about right, in my opinion. -

I think the animation for unholstering a rifle should be slower, and the pistol to be faster. Anyone else feel this? -
Character dies, becomes NPC Zombie
gesundheitk replied to roykingtree's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The disease was caught before they died, ergo it was airborne. This disease must interfere with cells somehow when a person passes on, and reactivates the body (mainly the brain) to work again. It makes the thing react to stimuli, and have a hunger for something to eat, preferably human flesh. The idea of this probably came from as a last survival tactic, people would eat each other. As you said, once it's dead, it's dead. Therefore, the body is going to essentially rot away until the area of the brain (brain stem) is destroyed by bacteria. It's basically a moving dead human, the way I see it. It's VERY similar (if not identical) to The Walking Dead's method of zombies, where once you die, you turn. The bites are from the fact that these dead organisms have things like germs and viruses living on their teeth, and causing these things to get into the bloodstream will obviously get you sick, causing you to die. -
Those are some pretty bad specifications, but ArmA is more CPU dependent than it is GPU at the moment. Have you tried adjusting settings? Turning to very low to low only puts more weight on the CPU rather than the GPU.

Is everyone else in the mod team still going to allow the testing, or is it going to be dark from April to June? Hope rocket does enjoy Everest, once in a lifetime thing. -

DAYZ:SA Zombies becoming real threat - ideas
gesundheitk replied to VooDooator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Here's my assessment of the ideas: 1. I have thought about this before. But, as much as it would this seem to cool to implement, we tend to run into some problems. One is storyline; as I've said in a previous post, we don't really know what has caused everyone to up and become something that wants to cannibalize every living thing in the planet. Another problem is difficulty; this is after all, a game. Making the game disturbingly difficult would not only hurt the softcore community in this forum, but just piss people off in general. The reason why it works so well in The Walking Dead is because they don't have a full-on sprint towards you, and tend to shuffle. While I believe that it would be nice to implement this idea into the standalone, it's less likely than what we could expect; I think it is really up to rocket's vision of zombies, as far as I can tell. 2. That's pretty intuitive, but that sounds like an idea from L4D. I'd just find that too cliche, and-or annoying. Even if it was implemented, I don't think it would be as game-immersing than something as of a car alarm, or just something that was made to make loud noises. That's all I feel we are pushing for here, is realism. 3. I really do like this idea. This would further support the 'walking dead' type of infected that I'm most interested in. Herds of infected roaming the map can really frighten people, especially since the thought of "one isn't that dangerous, but if they get into groups, you are in trouble". The only way I can see this work in-game is if all infected retained some kind of monkey-see, monkey-do attitude. This idea, however, has been suggested since the beginning of DayZ from what I can concur. I don't think it's really the fact that 'he' is not going to shoot another living being, but more of a difficulty when it came to infected. People become bandits because they want to be bandits. The thing about DayZ is that it gives you the freedom to be a hero, survivor, or a bandit. While I do like making it tougher to be bandits, people in the community will eventually become what they want to become, and you ain't stopping them, but rather putting up roadblocks. I am more interested in player interaction with infected rather than other players. -
Character dies, becomes NPC Zombie
gesundheitk replied to roykingtree's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Am I the only one who doesn't truly view the infected as past people, but dead organisms that somehow managed to get their brain to reactivate, but not the portions that make up the personality and memory of a person? I sure do like the idea your once alive character-- or any other person in DayZ-- to eventually reanimate (like in The Walking Dead), but what would it look like? Will there be specific zombie skins for each character? And will the clothes deteriorate over time, and look similar to the other zombies? As of now, however, we don't truly know what caused the outbreak, as rocket & his brother I believe are creating a story for at the moment. Once we find out what it is, we'll question whether it would make sense in DayZ. -
Karma System for the Standalone
gesundheitk replied to DeepSpaceBass's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Am I the only one who likes the idea? Karma is actually a somewhat nicer replacement for the Humanity System we have now. Besides, the implementation of blood being on a person's hands, and little signs of banditry should be supported with notes of zombies aggro-ing near them often, legs breaking easier, etc.. I don't view Karma as being a religious thing, but more-or-less an ingame system with the name of "karma". What is so bad about it? -

Another thing I would hope the team would touch on is the zoom time. It takes around a fourth to a half of a second to zoom in and out in ArmA 3 while in 2 it takes around one second. It does get bothersome and helps a lot in my opinion. Another thing would be the crosshairs. I thought that they agreed on not using them? If not, then I think it'd be nice if the crosshairs were re-done in a way to represent ArmA, instead of those four pecks around the screen. Looking very nice. I'll add on as I think of some. Feel free to dispute the ideas. -

If hero's run faster than bandits than what do bandits do better than a hero?
gesundheitk replied to Dai Tou Zai's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it might be a plausible idea to have Bandits have some kind of advantage over a Survivor and Hero. The tea towel is cool-- and sexy as fuck --but there should be some kind of benefit. Yet again, it is much more easier to be a bandit, so I can see where you are coming from. -

If this may be a suggestion, I hope that the zombie count might represent an estimated guess of residents actually living there. I would find it a bit odd to see a small town having almost a third of the zombie population in them (unless the herds are going around). -
No need to hide it, orlok; DayZ devblogs are my pussy.

Arma III Alpha lite [ GIVE AWAY ]

I purchased ArmA III this evening. Take me out of the drawing if you want. If I still somehow win, I'll give it away again I suppose. Good luck! -

Wait people stay alive on 1 server for months?
gesundheitk replied to maninthewall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Take people's advice and stay out of towns. This also might help, but if you are entering a town, try to keep your stamina calm. That way, if needed to engage another player, your bullets won't fly all over the place. This kind of helped me at times. -

Alienware run Dayz on very high graphics - m14x cheapest version
gesundheitk replied to PuRe DAYZ's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Also, another thing is that running DayZ at very high doesn't improve texture quality apart from 3D resolution, AF and AA. They mostly only affect render distance. What I mean is that for example, if I were to run DayZ at 1920x1080 3D resolution, AA & AF on normal, and everything else on Very low to off, the game would still look pretty similar apart from grass distance. -
Alienware run Dayz on very high graphics - m14x cheapest version
gesundheitk replied to PuRe DAYZ's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
While I do like the one you had suggested, I think mines is slightly more in value. It sells for about 60 dollars less, and contains a faster CPU with the only con being two GPUs instead of one; things like heat and optimization can be a strong factor. I have heard rumors though that the two GT650Ms have even stronger performance, equal to a GTX675M. -
Alienware run Dayz on very high graphics - m14x cheapest version
gesundheitk replied to PuRe DAYZ's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alienware isn't the best option if you are looking for some hard performance. Be aware though, you must be willing to spend at least 900 dollars if you want something that will be able to play ArmA at all. Here is a laptop that sells for around 1,000, has enough graphical power and CPU power for DayZ (i7M with two GT650s): http://www.amazon.co...minglaptops0-20 From what I've read, it does get a bit heaty after around five hours of gameplay, so if you want the most hours of gaming, I would purchase a laptop cooler. Hope I helped.
