Best Dayz kill to date. The tale of the good samiritan and his untimely end
mooky32 posted a topic in General Discussion
Well Dayz creates moments that other games just can't seem to match. My team mate and I are we doing our usual "psychopath" routine (see previous post on this before flaming!) We were basically trying to take ownership of Electro through means fair and foul (mainly foul). So anyway I am having a quick scout about the fire station just out of town and decide to go for a high risk look on the roof. So up the long outside ladder I go and get to the top. Just go there when I heard a cheery "Hello mate!" Down just inside the blue fire station gate is a dude reasonably well kitted with an M4 looking up at me. "Hi" I reply "friendly?" "Yeah , just wanted to warn you that there is some maniac with a mosin taking pot shots at people, I wouldn't stand up there, you will be a prime target" Meanwhile on Skype ,my team mate (said maniac with the mosin) is working his way into place for a nice shot on our plucky samaritan. I keep him talking for a little while and he is so jolly and helpful. Last thing I said to him was "So what direction do you think the shots came from?" "Can't be sure I think they came from over (BANG!)....... Head shot, down he goes... Much hilarity ensues on Skype, yes it was very naughty that's not the point the timing was comic gold. We never will find out where he thought the shots came from but I certainly know what the source was. He was an English bloke with a blue Mountain backpack and hopefully he reads this (don't think he will have trouble identifying the scenario!) Sorry for the murder but you really made our day, I salute you (have ammo for M4 next time though please!). What a game...... -

Lol I dunno how we got onto an in game communications debate. VOIP is so common place and adds a great element of fun when playing with friends (in most games not just Dayz). On other news , do people still say douchebag? :) -

Yes you have nailed it there buddy in the RP element. It's about doing "the other" , that alternate option a true human driven experience like Dayz gives you. When playing alone I switch and sometimes explore those other play styles you mention. I did a day of "helping" and it was mildly satisfying I have to say. Maybe my play partner brings out the Bateman in me but in partnership we still help people (to the afterlife that is!) One thing I have to say is that players put off by psychos will most likely be put off anyway , through elements such as death by starvation , zombie or plain accident. If I get killed and of course I will, my attitude will be to swear a bit and then go and find the bugger who was smarter/a better shot than me on that occasion! -

Yup dude agree with that state of mind, it's only be adding complete freedom of expression that the world truly comes alive and shines. Long may it continue. -
Got anyone on your team who is fun to play with but can be a real liability? Be interested to know your experiences. After yesterday's experience with my buddy on NW airfield I felt I had to post. So we head to the airfield, almost totally out of ammo we make for the eastern barracks. Maybe 10 shots between us. My buddy goes in first and expresses delight in finding a DMR and a single clip. Not bad find so its all good. I move up check the rest of the side rooms, pretty bare and no ammo present. Then it began - BOOM. My team mate lets the DMR rip at the entrance to the barracks. Well folks you know what comes next. The entire zed population descends on the barracks. "Whooaaahh stop it dude" I roar to him on voice chat. Too late, BOOM BOOM BOOM. Of course he runs out of ammo quickly and we are both trapped at the back of the barracks with zero ammo. He panics and attempts to crawl, jump and barge past the horde. Unbelievably he makes it out and runs to the 2 layer workshop just south of the barracks. I consider doing what he did but don't fancy it much! The horde advances pushing me back to the final room in the barracks, like a scene out of Day of the Dead. I let rip my last few pistol rounds and end a few, but its a drop in the ocean. Considered saving one round for myself like in the movie! Then without doubt the most fortunate thing that has happened to me in Dayz played out. An M240 with 2 x 100 round boxes spawns in my room. At this point Zeds are at the door. A few fumbling mouse clicks later and the bad boy is ready for payback. Barely hitting the mouse button I get it down to pretty much single shot mode and start laying waste. 5 mins later I am clear and breathe a big sigh of relief. My buddy then moves into his next adventure. "Trapped upstairs in the workshop, gonna have to jump!" Damn, not more grief. I sprint down to the workshop to find zombs feeding on an unconcious team mate with a broken leg! I let rip again and clear the area out. Quick morphine bandage, morphine and blood bag AND pain killers and he is good. At this point I am thinking we cut our losses, well M240 gained and living ain't so bad. But hell no, he want to see if there is any DMR ammo at the SW barracks. So I say I will check the hangers and ask him to be careful. Less than 5 mins later I get the call that he needs another blood transfusion as things have gotten out of control at the barracks (He has found an AKM and ammo). I sprint across and manage once again to stablise things using my significantly quieter PDW. So he is down to about 2000 blood and its transfusion time , AGAIN. The next bit you just couldn't make up. I get into kneeled transfusion mode and after being in his inventory apparently, he exits it and manages to press the left mouse button once too many. BOOM , headshot from AKM point blank! Death screen, no shit. I was on the verge of rage and then just started laughing and couldn't stop. I had to see the funny side. This dude could not have put us more in danger or done more wrong in such a short space of time even if he planned it. 25 mins later I am back at airfield after a Kamenka spawn (I mean I want that M240 back). He is lying there in the grass where I left him "guarding" my body with 2000 blood. As I gather my gear he decides he can't wait to check out the barracks some more. He runs in (still blurred vision etc from blood loss), attracts zeds and shouts at me frantically as he gets stuck on the obstacle at the front of the barracks. Seconds later he is dead! He then gets in a mood because he has to start over and basically logs off!!! Yeah buddy, If you are reading this - you 100% had the right to be pissed off there. After all it's not like you put our life in danger multiple times over 15 minutes before executing me gangland style. Please tell me I am not the only person to have a "friend" like this, do share people :-)

Yup Digital, I think I fall into the category of players you mention, new to Arma 2 mechanics and basically starting from zero. I think I am reasonably well integrated now but still capable of picking up the odd tip day-to-day. I think the kind of players like Doom Guy mentions (and my buddy) see this as a kind of bigger version of a traditional FPS. This certainly leads to some problems for other team members, that's for sure. Can still be a hell of a lot of fun playing with those crazy fellas as long as you survive and have some war stories to tell :) -

Lol abandoning a team mate in the middle of a fire fight, not good. Yeah that could create some tension for sure. -

Bandit bait, that sounds kinky :) -
Well much like the unfortunate bobby of robocop fame, it seems my character can't fly folks. Couple of weeks old character , respectable 1600+ zeds on the scorecard (and some bandits yay!). Raiding the NW airfield and suddenly I achieved super powers. I was able to teleport, fly through the air at speed and some altitude. Great so far I thought, unfortunately the ending involved a loud crunch and a death screen. Mmmm really gotta nail those landings for next time. Farewell hard earned MK48 and all my other lovely stuff, goodbye kill streak, back to the coast for me and time to start over. Nope not even gonna bitch, I was hacker fodder and this is an alpha stage mod in which shit happens. All I can say is that if the standalone gets rid of these hacking bastards then we are going to have something really special here (tents and vehicle fixes would be great too!). Great game, good times and rewarding for the determined and patient. My character was LSS, the server I wont bring into the conversation as I am sure it was a victim as I was. All I will say is that the first time you fire that MK48 mr hacker , I hope its in panic in the middle of Cherno and you bring 50 zeds down on your ass and alert the whole sniping community for miles. Enjoy your "hard earned" kit asshole! Rant over, keep on keepng on people......

Yeah it wasn't the fall that got me dude, it was the sudden stop!

Sound advice Faceman, I will not get mad, I will get even. I tend to agree with you on their motives. Just people going out of their way to make other peoples experience that little bit worse! I wont give into that attitude...
