    Question about 1.7.7.1 BE filters

Unless you have a reason not to such as custom scripts, then you should update all your filters.
  2. On a separate hive? sure On the same hive as normal no rules servers? Too much potential for those on the RP servers to gain an advantage over the rest of the hive, many would consider a server with no kill on sight to be an easy mode server.

    All systems are go.

Make sure you run Arma 2 and Arma 2:Operation arrowhead at least once each before installing the mod.

Dont do it! dont go to "That place" it'll only end in tears.
  5. I'm the opposite man, things like the food you eat and clothing/footwear having consequences to your health have really got me excited. and Huey Lewis rocks :P

    Third person idea

I totally get that, but third person is way too overpowered. the OP's suggestion isn't a bad compromise, but i personally wouldn't use it as having objects appear and vanish as i move my head would just feel wrong, its even more of an immersion breaker than the existing system. and it seems fairly pointless to me at least. I really think they could do a lot to improve first person that would make up for the lack of senses.

    Third person idea

true, and aimbots are going to be a problem that they may never resolve, no need to add another potential exploit. I didn't consider this as personally i can manage quite well without being able to see my characters body, you can use free look to get a pretty good idea of your position even in first person. I'd really like to see them work to overcome the flaws of 1st person rather than try to nerf third person. Things that need to be fixed: The character needs more flexibility of movement, the ability to peek over walls and around corners in a slow and smooth action that reveals a minimum amount of the players head, another example being a position between prone and crouched that allows you to just see over tall grass without being blatently obvious. Better audio, more ability to place an enemies position through sound, Working rear view mirrors in vehicles and the ability to lean to the side when in a vehicle as often the corner pillar can severely obstruct your view. FOV is too limited in the current mod but that will be easily adjustable in the standalone so thats a step in the right direction. if they fix all that far more people would be willing to play on first person only servers, and we can just leave the third person servers alone.
  8. Is this a private hive? If this is a private hive you need to report it to the admin of those servers as it sounds like a database issue and so is a problem at their end. If its on the public hive then you should report it here http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/140216-dayz-1771-dev-bug-list/ It shouldn't be possible for tents and vehicles to duplicate across multiple servers as each server has its own separate database that handles vehicles and tents. Best bet is to report it to the admins of those servers so they can investigate the issue and report it to the dev team with more info.
  9. I understand why someone might have an issue with it but personally it doesn't bother me, just think of it as a group of friends get separated amongst the zombie apocalypse, luckily for them they always carry around special services style radio's tuned to a frequency that looks suspiciously like a teamspeak ip address :D

    Third person idea

Yeah, in that case might as well just get rid of third person. the only use it would have left would be to allow people to see their character and that can be done in the inventory screen.

    Hello! New player here!

If you're out in the open hold shift and slowly move backwards away from the zeds, i find crouch also helps with accuracy, the zeds will come up to you and pause just before they attack, thats the time to strike. you have to be patient with your attacks try to move in a steady manner and predict their movement a little as just spamming the attack will be inaccurate and lead to you being hit. The same things apply in a buildings except the are a lot slower so you have more time to aim. Melee weapons are quite inaccurate so its worth spending a little time swinging at a wall taking note of the spread of impact a certain distances, and also you'll be surprised at how far a hatchet attack can reach.
  12. You misunderstood what he said man, They have set a rough date of a specific week some time in the future, but are not going to say which week that is. Its not going to be released in a week from now.
  13. Technically possible but highly questionable,If they tried to block a third party program from running on your pc it would essentially be a form of malware, maybe they could get around it with the terms and conditions but there would a shit load of outcry about it. And even if they did implement it, it would be futile, one simple way to bypass it is to use teamspeak on a mobile phone or tablet.

    Third person idea

But then you get the issue of having client decide what you can see which will be vulnerable to sciddies and goes against the whole idea of moving all decisions over to the server. I'm not sure if i totally understand what you're saying here, is it.. 1: If you are behind a wall third person only shows you whats on the other side if its within your characters FOV, or 2: If you are behind a wall third person doesnt show you anything on the other side until you move your character around the wall. Option 1 has potential i'd say if you also move the third person camera in closer to the player, maybe as close as 1ft either side of the players head, this would encourage a situation where play would be in first person but as you come to a wall you could switch to this slightly detached view to simulate being able to peek around or over, combined with only being able to see where the character is facing this would force the player to have to adjust themselves potentially giving their position away through going slightly too far around the corner or making noise. Option 2 i'd say defeats the whole point of having third person, its there to compensate for first person views limitations, not being able to peek over fences, not having functional rear view mirrors in a vehicle, might as well do away with it completely.
  15. I voted for the thiird option as it would be cool to have the option of going on servers with a no teamspeak poilicy. Problem is i dont see how you could possibly enforce it.
  16. Forget all that gummy, this adjustable spanner has one solid piece for the jaws! now thats a bloody outrage!

    Off-map area question

yup, thats very far west/southwest in the ocean somewhere, there is a small barren debug island out in that direction so it could be that.

    E3 and our attendance

Its too early to judge how the zombies will turn out, what we saw at E3 was a live development build, they still have a lot of work to do on zombies. and the game wont officially be finished for maybe another year. And it has been made clear from the start that there would never be any kind of quest's, everything in the game always has and always will be player driven. I think you'd be best to wait a while before deciding if you want to buy the game.

    [SA] Suggestion: NPC Trading Posts

You want traders? here you go http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/70-trading/ There are countless players waiting eagerly to take on the role of traders in the standalone. NPC's are the easy way out and only take away from the potential for player interaction.
  20. It has been said that people should expect the kind of frame rate they get when playing the Arma2 editor and that frame rate should be more consistent across different areas of the map. Think it was rocket who said that but cant be sure so dont quote me on that. Seeing as a lot of things will be handled server side in the standalone rather than client side in the mod i expect overall frame rate should be better than we have now. Edited for i only just woke up'edness.

    Regional (Re)Spawn; SA + Mod

For me spawning in alone at a random location and then trying to meet up with friends is part of the fun. But also any kind of ability to choose an area to spawn in will mostly be used to gain a tactical advantage over other players. And for those two reasons i'm not a fan of the idea.

Let us boil seawater to make salt.

i like this idea. storing food should play a big part in a survival game.
