September Round-up: DevBlog, #DayZDaily, PAX, GDC China
fluxley replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Just found this posted on reddit, comparison shot of Polana https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BVpZQh4CEAAxRJc.jpg:large Interesting that the view distance in the lower arma2 pic appears to be set higher than the standalone pic yet the trees in the standalone pic go much further back. Can't wait to explore Chernarus all over again. -
Will the release of the single player game signal the death of the modding community?
fluxley replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One aspect of potential modding that rocket has mentioned is maybe providing tools and even training that allow the community to create new maps that would then have to be ok'd by Bi and then released as dlc. I think thats one example of a great way to involve the mod community without risking the security and core concepts of dayz. -
Going back to your body to get your gear
fluxley replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yup, also an issue that needs to be addressed in my opinion. -
Going back to your body to get your gear
fluxley replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One of the biggest problems getting in the way of dayz being a good survival sim is that many just don't value their characters life. part of the issue is that its just far too easy to run back to your body and get all your gear back. Preventing players from looting their own body would help, (though it wouldn't stop teammates getting your gear for you), but to me it just doesn't feel right. My favourite solution that i've seen discussed is when a player dies zombies and even wild animals could be attracted to the body and basically start tearing it apart and over the course of lets say 10 minutes all the gear would gradually be destroyed. This allows the killer the opportunity to loot the body while at the same time discouraging long distance kills, the longer it takes to get to the body the less loot there will be. And unless the killed player gets extremely lucky and spawns right next to where they died, there would be no point in trying to run back to your body. (a system could be added that always spawns you at least 10 minutes run away from where you died) You still have the issue of teammates getting your gear for you but they will have to contend with the zeds trying to destroy the body. -

Nope, Rocket has said the standalone will be locked down initially but they would like to allow modding later on. source http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/13u86n/will_standalone_be_moddable/c778w6o?context=3 http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1ijj10/weekly_discussion_what_are_your_sa_release/cb542tu?context=3 -
HOW COME MY PROVIDER ISNT UPDATING TO 1.8?
fluxley replied to piffaroni's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Thats normally the case, they cant just update if the server package isnt compatible with the new update. You might get more answers by going to the dayzcc forum http://dayzcc.tk/ -
You lose humanity when damaging the vehicle you are driving
fluxley replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was just thinking that when i was an admin i would notice in the logs that when a player crashed a vehicle the damage that the passenger took would count as being caused by the driver, so thought it might be linked. Don't know of any 1.8 servers that use a debug, overwise i would test it some more. -

Was anyone else in the vehicle when you crashed? -

Found one of the best servers so far.... imo
fluxley replied to beavis_5000's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Op, have you played on a vanilla 1.8 server? i ask because theres more zombies spawning now than 1.7.7.1. -
:D yeah, see, makes perfect sense.
-
A firestation is a pretty good defendable building what with having a lookout tower, not too far fetched to think that those with guns would try to hole up in there in a situation like dayz.
-
It can depend greatly on the server that you play on, a decent spec server with good ping and low population will be a lot smoother than a busy server on crappy hardware and lots of poorly implemented scripts, this makes it really hard to compare the results you are getting now to how it used to play for you. There could be other factors too, maybe your system is just running slower than it used to, this happens with windows unless you really keep on top of unnecessary programs running in the background. i tend to just go for a fresh windows install every few months, makes a big difference. But yeah your system is very underpowered for dayz, so the slightest change could easily push it over the edge.
-
It depends on the database being used, many private servers don't have a vehicle/tent clean up script, but i believe 7 days is correct for the official public hive.

Tried to jump back into DayZ...
fluxley replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't understand, you say the problem is that zombies are too easy to run around and then say the solution is to make them like "actual zombies" i assume you mean make them slow. that makes no sense. -
Its not what everyone uses as there a few server packages out there, but i would recommend it, easy to get set up and good community support. And yes, you do need to have both games installed.
-
Worth noting that the airfield hangers no longer spawn military loot (its classed as military but theres no actual guns) so adding military to the castles and dams has just spread things out over the map.

Public variable value restriction 292
fluxley replied to Plasma-Dodo's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Most likely an issue with that particular server, possibly they need to adjust their script.txt. Test to see if it happens on other servers, if not then contact the admin of the server you are having problems with. -
As can be seen in the notes for the upcoming hotfix * [FIXED] - Loot Bias system Fixed. (Limits the amount of Piles within a building every 15 mins) - Should lower overall loot spawned, Should provide FPS Boost http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/148118-rolling-changlog/ Theres currently more loot than intended spawning in 1.8 Also, just checked the loot table and LMG's only spawn in barracks and at helicrashes. If you've found them in firestations its either a modified loot table or someone dropped them there. I do agree that the M14 doesn't belong in normal military spawns, should be barracks only IMO.

Got the perfect thing for you Gews
-
Yeah, thats how it should be, though i'd rather it was a bit more vague, something like "Player died from gunshots very recently".
-
They are not dead. they are infected living humans. this has been discussed hundreds of times and confirmed by the creator of the game.
-
No, if you want to confirm a kill you should have to go give the body a poke. this simply adds another element of danger which will improve gameplay.
