    "Dude, I'm friendly..."

The thread is mostly for that player, if he reads the forums. It's also for people who don't know any better, and will wonder why they were shot for a similar action. So yeah, cool story bro, etc. sure. Also, I've never played CoD, so I can't tell if that was for me or someone else.

    Your Final Words Before Death

Depends. If it was a dumb mistake that got me shot, it's something along the lines of "I really should have seen that one coming." If it's due to a sniper or clever player I just laugh. Like the guy I was playing with that killed both of us with a frag, when trying to throw a smoke. All I could do was laugh. If it was a good encounter, a good fight, I'll usually tell them that it was fun, good fight, etc.

    DayZ Stories

I logged in today, about a kilometer North of Balota Airfield. I was down to two AK mags, so I thought I'd hit the Airfield real fast and see if I could get lucky. After crawling my way through some trees, sprinting through the few small fields, and finding a vantage point where I can get eyes on the ATC tower and part of the tarmac, I start hearing gunfire. I see a survivor with a hatchet run around the side of the hangar, vault the wire fencing in the tower door, and run upstairs. I was almost positive he was bleeding. Just as he reached the first landing, another Survivor with an AK pattern weapon runs around the side of the hangar in pursuit, vaults the wire, and runs up the stairs. I hear a few more shots, and see a death message. At that point I had my Kobra sights locked in on the doorway, waiting for the guy to come down the stairs. About 20 seconds later I see his feet, and as soon as his head clears the top of the doorway I open fire. I don't like the sights on the Kobra, I don't feel like they're accurate. I took probably 7 shots in semi as fast as I could, and luckily he fell down. He didn't have anywhere else to go, it was either back up the stairs, or he would have to stand to vault over the wire again. He opted for the wire, and I let off some more rounds, and saw a death message after he fell. I got a few AK mags, but he also had a Kobra, so I didn't get a better weapon. I quickly looted the tower for a few G17 mags (I was carrying one at the time, hooray for me), a morphine injector, and found pretty much nothing else in the hangars. So I bolted between the hangars and into the woods. I was going to make my way to Zelenogorsk, but real life came knocking and I had to log out for a bit. After doing some important, but boring shit for a few hours I was able to play again, so I found a populated server and logged back in. I was still near Balota Airstrip, so I figured I'll try the hangars again. Maybe find an AKM or another DMR, and then I could head to Zelenogorsk. This time I took the side approach to the concrete wall that runs along the Eastern side of the hangars. I low crawled under the gap, and slowly crept through the small buildings, and into the first hangar. Nothing there. There were some zombies walking around on the tarmac, so I continued sneaking as silently and carefully as possible, and ducked into the corner of the second hangar. I saw a crouching figure in the opposite corner of the hangar, and figured out that it wasn't a zombie about a second before he saw me and raised his weapon. So I just started firing. The guy fell over, stopped shooting, so I took a few aimed shots at his head to make sure, and bandaged myself. I was REALLY low on blood, I'm surprised I was still conscious. I went to check the guy for loot, and scored. M16A2 M203, and about ten STANAG mags. To top it off, there was a small handful of 40mm HE rounds. I took cover in a cargo container, ate the 5 cooked meat I had in my pack, took some painkillers, and scooted without even checking the ATC tower. It was a good day...
  4. Best one I've ever heard of, hands down.
  5. My first spawn was in Kamenka. After reading the forums/wiki, and watching some YouTube videos I had determined that my first order of business was to find a hatchet. I don't believe I actually found one until my fourth or fifth life, as the zombies kept getting me. Between learning how the inventory system worked, what buildings could be entered, and the controls I had a pretty rough first few hours. I wasn't killed by a player until I spawned in Elektro. I played for 6 hours my first day, it was brutal, and I loved every minute of it. I didn't kill another player for the first few weeks. I had decided to play on low pop servers while I learned the game and familiarized myself with the gear and weapons. After I felt comfortable with the game I started venturing onto high pop servers to play, and began dying regularly again, this time due to players, so the fun factor went up. I knew there was a somewhat steep learning curve, so I just had to get past it. Other than dying by hacks, every death I have is enjoyable now, not frustrating.

    Perfect bandit moments..

The other day I was running low on supplies, and I hadn't found any matches yet. I looted around Balota real fast and decided to head up to Zelenogorsk to see if I could nab some food, and if I was lucky, matches. I had just stopped and proned out in the treeline to give it a quick look to see if any Zombies had spawned, and a player comes running up the hill into the trees a few meters to my left. I don't think he saw me at all, but I hit him in the legs with the Enfield and he went down. He started to bandage himself, so I had plenty of time to line up a solid shot to his noggin. The guy had like 10 cans of beans... and a box of matches. Exactly what I came for, and it worked out perfectly. I can't recall another time when a player had exactly what I wanted on him at the time. I've gotten much better loot many times, but it was never the ONE thing I needed, just as I needed it.

    too many 50 cal snipers

I don't agree with removing either the AS50 or M107 from the game entirely. I like the idea of upping the spawn rate on the "lesser" scoped rifles like the CZ550. I don't like that the DMR can't be zeroed. I also don't like that weapons like the M16A2 cannot be zeroed, while the AKM can. My AR15A2, as well as every issued service rifle I've ever had (M16A2/M4) have adjustable rear apertures. Same with AK's, they have a rear leaf for elevation adjustments. Yes, it's harder to hit a target at 500m with irons, but it's completely doable. The suggestion about removing the rangefinder from the game interests me, though. I'm curious what effect that would have. Most people are aware of the script/duping issue, and why the numbers of the .50's are so inflated. I'm looking forward to rare items being rare again.
  8. It's definitely jacked up, especially with the Hero skin. I like the idea of skins, but not the idea of humanity increasing over time. IMO, it should only increase/decrease due to your actions, and I think there should be higher/lower requirements for both Bandit and Hero skins.
  9. <~ Has had a hero skin going on 2 weeks now. Not even 20 minutes ago I shot a man for a pack of matches, a bandage, and a few cans of beans. I still have the skin.
  10. It's all good man, there's a reason I didn't flame you. There is so much bad info floating around out there about firearms both online and in the real world, I try to present correct information whenever possible. :) I wholeheartedly agree with ALL of this, especially the part about the Ghillie. Those bastards are hot.

    WTF is that?

    That's called a stroke.

First gun you ever found in DayZ?

Enfield... Luckily I had read the forums and the Wiki some before I started and knew better than to fire that thing off in town. I took it to the top of a hill and tried to headshot Zombies with it as they walked up towards me. Then I had no ammo. And I encountered a player shortly afterwards who had ammo. You can probably guess the rest.
  13. I'm not normally a big fan of math until it tells me something I like. This, I like. I kinda wish I'd kept the thing now.

    Hackers are our friend

On another note, I just looted the body of a player I killed. Ghillie, Coyote, AS50 TWS, M4 CCO SD, M9 SD, MP5SD, Night Vision, GPS, Rangefinder... the whole 9 yards. Unfortunately it was a Rocky 3 moment, in that we pretty much killed each other. Fortunately I respawned close to the area, and was able to retrieve all my items... and a few of his. I buried the AS50 on my corpse. So, here's to you, Penis Breathe, may many fucks be upon you and your hacked gear. :D
  15. My first player kill in Dayz was with that bad boy... I found it in the ATC tower at Balota, and saw a guy running towards the tower. It was the perfect gun for use in a ladderwell. :D
  16. I set up a few tents, put nothing in them, and checked on them later. Stupidly, some people had started using them. Seriously, why would you do that? I'm just going to loot it a little at a time for as long as they're stocking it up...
  17. codave

What is your definition of hoarder?

I figure it's not really hoarding until you have tents filled with empty cans, bottles, and chem lights. Put all the gear you can stuff into your camp, it'll just be that much sweeter when I find it, and note it's location down in my notebook...
  18. This is not true. There are no restrictions on what type of ammo can be run through a can, assuming it's the correct caliber for the can/firearm, and it's a jacketed round (lead ball ammo fouls the baffles up much faster than jacketed ammo).

    This is how Wookies multiply.

    Not all bandits are bad

Even bad guys have to be nice sometimes, how else would they recruit? :D

Why is the M14 so overlooked?

Full auto is good for machine guns, which you need for really effective suppressive fire. The mad minute wouldn't be as effective without them. Most light machine guns are operated with a 2 man team anyway, to be the most effective. For a battle rifle, I prefer semi as well. I've always been a big believer in accurate fire being the most effective. Dunno, maybe it was the indoc. :|

Why is the M14 so overlooked?

This is a good example of why I only tell funny stories... As far as the M14 goes, I have yet to find one. I'll drop whatever I'm carrying to have it. I pick up DMR mags on the off chance I come into one.

    DayZ Voice Sound

If everything is turned up, it could be an I/O routing issue. Depends completely on your software and hardware setup, so if you have configurable In's and Out's, double check those.

    Just found my first AS50

Very nice. I still have yet to loot a tent, and the one time I took anything from a hacked item box, it was all the gear I had just lost to a hacker server-kill. Even that didn't feel okay, so I'm big on getting all my gear legit. It does feel much, much better.
