  1. Edited - I think the problem is sorted. See you in game...
  2. I was able to log on for a while last night. Thanks for the approval. I'll start gearing and hunting when I get home in a few hours. :D
  3. So I've been playing Taviana for a few days (on other servers) to familiarize myself with the map. I'm digging it a lot. I'll submit my whitelist request here in a bit (I have to get my GUID first), so as long as I don't lag like hell on the server, I hope to see some of you guys soon. :D EDIT: Request sent, waiting on confirmation.
  4. I find the notions of cowardice and bravery, or any of the bravado associated with them ridiculous in a video game. Get over yourselves already, you sound ridiculous. I can tell you what annoys me to no end, though. 1. People crying because someone killed them. 2. People bragging because they killed someone else. No one is a coward, no one is brave, no one is moral, immoral, or amoral here. You suck the fun out of it when you take it seriously, IMO. If thats what you want to do, I suppose you go right ahead.
  5. I played "vanilla" DayZ for a long time, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Recently I started playing Taviana, and the only server I get decent ping and don't lag like hell on starts you off with some food, a hunting knife, and a map/compass. I've noticed that if you die and respawn, sometimes (maybe all the time, dunno) you respawn with a Makarov, ammo, a tent, and the aforementioned items. This isn't a huge deal breaker for me, as the server is still fun and there are lots of loots still to find. I suppose if I spawned with a Coyote pack, DMR, and 5 mags that might take some of the fun out of it, but I don't disparaige those that enjoy those servers for their own reasons. As far as vehicle spawns, I could take it or leave it. I'm not a huge fan of vehicles, though I will ride a bike from time to time, for novelty sake. I feel that a vehicle makes me a target to other players, since I often use it to my advantage when targeting others. At the end of the day, it IS a personal taste thing. I love that about the mod, it allows for some variety. Where I would draw the line between what is "Real" DayZ and what isn't, I don't really know.
  6. I've been meaning to try this map out. This server sounds good to lone wolf on as well. Count me in, soon.
  7. It is also worth noting that you may also measure things like doorways, signs, window frames, or anything else that has a standard size to calculate distance. Of course a door on building 1 may not be the same width as one on building 2, and angle matters on the width measurement. I don't know the measurements, but if you're a player who likes the 550 as a primary it may be worth finding out. This also applies to true mil-dot reticles, and since they have vertical stadia you can measure the height of a door or window regardless of angle.
  8. Christmas morning. Presents are wrapped in Alice packs. The good stuff is always wrapped in Coyotes.
  9. My first kill was with an Enfield. It's still my favorite rifle to this day, since the ammo is plentiful, and they're easy to pick up. The first one was a guy running up the stairs in an office building, I think. Can't remember for sure. My most memorable run was the day I got ahold of some NVGs and a DMR. I had been looking for a DMR for a while, so I had been stocking up on mags. My goal was to use all 6 mags on players before I died. I believe I made it through 2 mags in several days sniping at airfields, barns, and vehicle spawn points. Finally died to a skiddie doing a server kill, but I didn't care at that point. When I log in after work tonight my first goal is another Enfield, and I'll gear up using that. It's more fun than looting public places.

Which games did you abandon for DayZ?

I didn't really give them up, but I just added DayZ into my Fallout cycle.
  11. This is sorta the plan I outlined above, and it seems to work well for me. Two things I always do, is if I hear AS50 fire nearby I don't enter town. If my initial contact is successful, and I loot my prizes from another player, I find some good cover and stay put for about 10 minutes. Most players in this game aren't patient, so one of two things happen. They either assume I've escaped or logged out, or they try to move in on me and give away their advantage.
  12. If I'm in a town and I see or hear a player, I'll just duck into a building and stay put. Most of the time they'll come to me, and I hear them coming before they enter, but they don't hear or see me if I've done it right. Ambushes work well if you pick a good spot, also.
  13. I always play alone, unless someone finds me dead to rights, and talks instead of shoots. I'll team up for a bit then. My play style is: 1. Find Weapon 2. Find Player 3. Take Player Gear 4. Loot Buildings 5. Maybe Find Player 6. Maybe Take Gear Once I feel I have all the gear i want, I do my best to lose it so i can start over. This usually involves actively hunting other armed players, the more the better. My favorite part of this game is "Fuck it, there's three guys with rifles, I'll go die now..." "Holy shit I'm still alive." If I don't get that pleasure, I get the pleasure of starting over...

    What's your current loadout?

I'm back to day 0 at the moment... 9 murders later: ALICE, Hunting Knife/Hatchet/Compass/Watch/Matches/ETool/Flashlight/Bino's/2 Water Bottles AK74 + 8 mags, 1911 + 4 mags Bandages, Morphine, Painkillers, some Sardines and a few pepsi's to boot. Still rockin' the Hero skin.

    CZ550 Estimating Range to Target

Yes, you can use the reticle in the CZ550 to estimate the range to a target. Anyone who says you can't doesn't know what they're talking about. Unfortunately, I haven't taken the time to make range cards for it yet, since I never find the damn things.
  16. Seems to be a dice roll for me. I might not see any for a week, then I see 3 in one day. Seems pretty random to me from my limited point of view.

    Unstable humanity?

My Hero skin isn't going away though, I've had it for a little over 3 weeks. I actively tried to get rid of it, and it just won't go away. I've tried putting on/taking off a Ghillie, Camo Clothing, murder sprees, the whole 9 yards. It seems like it's here to stay, regardless of what the debug monitor says. Pretty sure he isn't implementing stupid features and calling them "bugs". Suffice to say, some shit just doesn't work like you think it will even if you've coded and tested carefully.

    Unstable humanity?

It's interesting that you say that. I started playing with a friend, and through bandaging and transfusions I reached Hero status pretty quickly. After a few weeks of playing on low pop servers, I started playing on high pop servers. My humanity resets to 0 every time I log in. One session I murdered about 10 people, my humanity dropped waaaay down, but my Hero skin didn't change at all. I log off for the day, and the next day when I log in all my stats are reset to 0... still have a Hero skin, still murdering people when I get the chance. Hero skin is fucked.
  19. To me it seems like most, if not all. I always have my face whenever I log in.
  20. I highly suggest taking the time to consider whether or not you wish to play ArmA as well. I bought ArmA 2 for DayZ, but when I get sick of DayZ I have fun in ArmA. It's Win/Win for me. I guess it also depends on how much money you have, and how valuable that money is to you. I blow money every month on stupid shit because I can, so it wasn't that important to me if I ended up hating the game. If you are on an extremely tight budget (broke college student, etc), that changes things. I'll buy Standalone when it comes out, and not feel like I wasted my money on ArmA 2, because it's a great game as well.
  21. Someone asked if it's required to clear all the loot in a building. Well, no. But IIRC there's only a 50% chance of loot spawning in each spot, so theoretically if there are 12 loot spots that are empty, only 6 will spawn loot the first time. Clearing every spot just maximizes the amount of loot. You can do it with only one free loot spot, but you have a much, much lower chance of spawning something good, or anything at all.
  22. Inventory shouldn't talk back.

    m4 CCO SD ammo?

Most bullets in DayZ are supersonic there, chief.
  24. You really posted two threads three minutes apart? That's so hardcore.
