    Am i a bandit?

I agree with the lone wolf suggestion. It's a rarity that I find a other player that plays the way I do as a team, and dragging around people who piss me off would drive me to aloha snackbar them with a satchel. If you miss King Arthur's Knights after a while, I'm sure you can find another merry band of do-gooders in Sherwood Forrest to take their place.

    Swimming on dry land

I had a similar issue on Tavi a few days ago. The thing that finally got me out of the dirt was putting my rifle in my backpack, and pulling it out again. If you don't have a rifle, try the hatchet. Unfortunately I caught an infection from being submersed in dirt. Logging out next to a vehicle or ladder is now mandatory for me.

What Kind of Player Are YOU?

Ambush predator. Extremely patient, willing to work with a minimal amount of gear or what is available at the time. I would rather be a cunning fuck than a fucking cunt. Though sometimes I get stupid and say things like "I bet I can hit the pilot with my AK...".
  4. I truly have better things to worry about than what other people want to do with their gaming time. If someone wants a PvE only server - the good news is this mod is set up so they can have exactly that. More power to them. I hope they enjoy themselves. Will I join one of those servers? Not often, maybe never. Doesn't affect my game, though. Win/Win

    Bandit Challenge

That's one I haven't tried yet. Sounds like a good reason to hop on a public hive for a while.
  6. Was the above post indicating a change to the loot table, or the way it has been since the release of this last update? Either way, beans.
  7. I like the idea of a small chance of any type of loot spawning in any location, and I would consider that realistic. I don't think NVG's should have something like a 30% chance of spawning, but .0X% might work. That makes it still desirable to hit actual military loot spawns and crash sites for that higher chance, while allowing for those rare, golden finds in random places.
  8. I don't know where you live, or how much hunting you do. Or even what type of game you may or may not hunt. I can tell you however that when people in my neck of the woods hunt hogs, they'll use everything from bows, to handguns, to suppressed AR15's with night vision optics. Deer are regularly taken with AR15's as well, or M14 type rifles, or sporterized AK's, or... you get the idea. Remington 870's are military loot. That's an extremely common hunting weapon. I could go on, and on, and on. Since we're on this line of logic, almost no fire station loot belongs there. Or churches. Supermarkets don't normally carry military gear like ALICE packs, or really any weapons at all. Weapons will migrate after a zombie apocalypse. To me it makes more sense that you would have the possibility to find anything anywhere. That's just my opinion though.

    Anyone found a machete yet?

    Thread is useless without pichures.
  10. I've noticed them on quite a bit the last few days. I'll have to start looking for them a bit harder, or move south a bit... :D

    Weapon Customisation

I don't care how many players know what is realistic and what isn't. Too many threads on this forum highlight that the players often have no idea. As long as Rocket and the other Dev's at BI know, I'm not worried.

    Weapon Customisation

This is important for people to remember. ^^^^^^^^ It's also important to remember that we repair vehicles in this game - we have a toolbox. I can take my AR15's down to bare components relatively easily using only a few hand tools. It's FAR less complicated than say, aircraft maintenance. I've never tried to fix an engine in a helicopter, but I imagine it's a bit more difficult than changing a tire or mounting a scope. As long as attachments make sense, I'm not going to be upset. IRL I have an optic, a vertical foregrip, and a light on one of my AR15's. They aren't there to look sweet (even though they do), they're on there to increase functionality of the weapon. As long as any attachments are 1.) Realistic, and 2,) Useful, I'm all for it. In my opinion, the more the better. Chokes for shotguns. Scopes for rifles. Suppressors for rifles/pistols. Bipods for rifles. Lights for carbines/pistols that have appropriate mounting hardware (frame rails, threaded barrels). Even threaded pistol barrels are easy to install, you can do it without tools in many cases. These all make sense, and have a legitimate use not only in real life, but in game. However if I find a hearbeat sensor for an M107, I'm going to blow a gasket.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.6 Update

Time to try a Machete/Crossbow only life...
  14. If we're to stop shooting "Bambi", perhaps a name that doesn't conjure images of a game animal should be used. Plus, it sounds like he was using an Enfield. That's not the same as camping Elektro with a .50 Combat logging always has been, and remains a bitch move. The minute they did they justified his shooting them, even if it wasn't justifiable before.

    Bandit Tactics

Choke points are either your friend or your enemy. What I mean by choke points are those spots that a player is forced into going. If one does not exist naturally, create one. This is very easy on servers with an over abundance of vehicles. Sandbags and wire fencing scream ambush, it's better to use vehicles. Busses and URALs are good for this. You can partially block the road in a spot that isn't easily passable on either side, has guard railings, a small bridge, or buildings. Shoot out a tire, burn it out, something. A well traveled road between towns is good. The times I do this I like to conceal myself behind the roadblock, so they pass me and I can attack from a rear flank. You have time since you'll hear the vehicle coming. If you've set it up properly, around a curve or over the crest of a hill, they won't see it from a half Km away either. If they can't go around it, they'll have to get out and move it. Satchel charges can be triggered a few hundred meters out, M203 HE can be fun as well. If you've got good aim, shoot out a tire when the car stops if you want. If you like AS50's, hit the engine. However you want to do it. The point is to create a situation that allows you to pick the place where you initiate contact. Just spend a lot of time scouting out the map, you should see things that give you ideas. The only downside is that it requires some patience, and even after a few hours nothing may happen.
  16. Crowbar for sure. I picked one up once to use until I found a hatchet. That was a mistake. I don't understand the Makarov hate. It's pretty easy to pull head shots with, ammo is plentiful, and I don't mind losing it. A Makarov and a hatchet are my prefered tools for loot runs.

    Weapon Customisation

Standard rounds will not damage a suppressor. The only exception being if you put a pistol caliber suppressor on a rifle caliber weapon, and that's only because of the high pressure difference. Even then, there are exceptions to that (300 BLK and some 9mm cans, etc).

    Weapon Customisation

Depends on the attachment, I think. Suppressors wouldn't be as common as weapon lights, and optics would be more common than any of them. Or at least regular hunting scopes should be. We certainly shouldn't be tripping over them though, I would like to have to put some effort into finding them.

    Weapon Customisation

I'm more excited about the idea that the weapons and magazines are deteriorable, and that we'll have to load magazines to be able to use them. I'm hoping there is a requirement for cleaning and maintenance of your weapon as well. As far as other attachments, I love suppressors so I'm really hoping there is some attention to detail paid in that regard. M16/M4's and AK's all have threaded muzzles anyway, and most any weapon with a flash hider as well. I don't expect them to have specific cans only for 1/2x28 TPI on M4's that won't fit on an AK, which is different. The basic expectation I have is that you can't put a 5.56 can on a 7.62 weapon, but you could use a 7.62 can on a 5.56 weapon, and that you can't use handgun round suppressors on rifles. I hope normal ammo and SD ammo won't matter as much either, but will still be functionally different as far as sound goes. It irks me to no end that I can't use regular ammo in a suppressed weapon in game. I want to see that fixed. Make standard ammo louder out of a suppressed weapon (because it is), and subsonic ammo quieter. But let me use whichever I want, or what I'm limited to finding at the moment FFS. As far as light attachments, give me more than "On, Off". Maybe double tap L to turn it on and off, but just press L for momentary on for as long as I hold it down. I'll likely change the configuration to allow me proper use of a weapon light with ease, but the functionality should be there.
  21. tl:dr - Stop getting your knowledge about firearms from video games and movies. The problem with the .50 rifles is lack of other needed game mechanics that would add skill into using them. I'm beginning to think Gews is the only person in this thread that has any real-world knowledge of firearms. Obviously, I'm going to have to agree with him. The AS50 and M107 would be perfectly fine in game with a proper damage system. I've been hoping for one since SA was announced. I would also like to see wind effects present, and constantly changing. The zero system IS simplistic. Instead of setting a zero for "800 meters", I would prefer a zero system that we adjust in mils. See www.shooterready.com for a more in depth explanation. The adjustment at longer ranges should be more precise, not in 200m increments. An 800m+ shot on a point target is hard as fuck with any rifle, without the proper experience. Even a .308 round has the capability of touching a target a mile out. The skill required to make that shot is exponentially harder than say a simple 400m shot. Boots do it using iron sights on rickety M16A2's every week, and those are 500m shots. Remove the Barney style aspects to sniping, and it will even things out. Long range shooting IS and SHOULD BE dependent on skill, not on what weapon you're using. Same with helicopters. It's ridiculous that I could hop in one first try, and fly it around for an hour and a half, landing on oil derricks and other areas with only a few minute YouTube video for flight instruction. While I'm at it, the other complaint I have with the big boy rifles in this game is that they're still only 10 slot weapons. A short barreled AK should not be equal in pack space. Also, you should be deaf (like the reduced hearing during shock) after firing one. If anyone here hasn't cracked a shot off with one of those bastards IRL, I assure you the SPL is massive. Video doesn't do it justice.
  22. I agree that giving players free swag ruins the gameplay a bit. It's just as bad as a player spawning their own weapons, the result is the same. I WANT admins to be able to teleport, be invisible, and add/remove items from player inventory. Without those abilities I imagine it would be much more difficult to catch cheaters. The caveat is those abilities are easily abused, so whether the admin is a good or bad one makes all the difference in the world. I've been fairly lucky to find a few good white listed servers with excellent admins, and all the bad server admins I've seen in the past make me appreciate them even more.
  23. Hard to say. From the DevBlog and other info we've been given I know that not everything will be rolled out on day one. Clothing and weapons will continue to be added, and I'm sure other improvements as well. Everyone likes content updates, so I think it will keep players around as long as updates are being rolled out. As far as player numbers, who knows. I know I'll play it, and I know others who are waiting for the SA as well who are no longer playing the mod. As long as its on PC only, player numbers will be limited to an extent. There's always been a gap between PC and console gamers, I don't see that changing. If it eventually gets released on consoles, numbers will go way up for sure. I know they said if the game does well a console version would be the natural progression, and that made sense to me. As far as artificially limiting player numbers during early release, I have no idea how to do that without pissing people off. Once it's out of the box, people are going to want to play it. New features, reduced hacking, better optimization... probably going to have less people rage quitting and keep playing. It will be interesting to see how it all rolls out for sure.
