    US303 You will be missed!

I played on that server quite a bit. I hit it up last night for a bit, too. I get why you're pulling it down, and you gotta do what you gotta do. So I'll echo the OPs sentiments - thanks for providing us with a great server for so long. Some of us appreciate it a lot.

    Worst way to die?

Outhouse door is by far the most degrading way to die, IMO. A close second is any of the other bugs that shouldn't kill you, but can.

    Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits

Dear Sir, Please give me a comprehensive list of things I should and should not do in this game. Afterall, we are all here to please you.
  4. I'm not taking June as the definitive release date. "It will be done when it's done" is good enough for me. As far as Rockets Everest trip, people really do need to understand that it's not the same as a vacation. It is literally a life and death undertaking. So I'll personally hang tight and wait patiently for the SA release like an adult, wish Rocket a safe climb, and a pre-emptive congrats on two huge successes.

    "Bambis..."

Any term used to describe fresh spawns or newer players will be used with negative connotations. It's simply how it is. If it wasn't Bambi, it would be something else. Just use it as an idiot identifier - as others say, you know that you want nothing to do with the person. Also, sticks and stones, etc.
  6. It does seem like the server population has been steadily increasing, during all times not just peak hours. Some more players from US time zones would help a lot, as I think most players are from Europe at the moment.
  7. I use MSI for overclocking, I'll check into the video recording feature. Edited: I downloaded the Beta version of MSI, and got it set up. The video capture works pretty well, though I have to figure out whats up with my audio configuration. It's only recording what goes into the headset mic, no game audio. I'll get it squared away. Here's the first video I recorded with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX5dU1AfQqc&feature=youtu.be
  8. Apparently this has earned me the first spot on the new Hit List. I have a bounty on my head. Apparently my life is worth a DMR or M24. Good to know.
  9. Just takes some practice losing them, you'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

    silencer weapons magazine

You're actually the one who doesn't know what you're talking about. You can fire standard velocity ammunition out of a suppressed weapon without damaging the suppressor. In fact, most people shoot regular ammunition with their suppressed weapons. Using standard ammunition, the dB level is generally reduced by around 30 dB. Using subsonic ammunition, you might get an additional 10 to 20 dB of reduction, but it's still most likely going to be above 100 dB. Keep in mind that many pistol rounds are already sub sonic, while almost all rifle rounds have a velocity at least twice the speed of sound, usually more. Sub sonic rifle rounds perform poorly compared to standard velocity ammunition, especially at longer ranges. When you're talking about the characteristics of the gunshot, that really only applies at those longer ranges. If you're near the weapon when it's fired, even with a suppressor it will still sound unmistakably like a gunshot. At distance it's dampened enough that it makes it more difficult to tell where the round was fired from. And as far as it goes in-game, players can still hear you firing SD ammo from unsuppressed weapons, just not Zombies for some reason.

    creepy axe murder guy

I'm almost positive this guy joined our Taviana server a few days ago. There were only a handful of us online, and this guy connects - and the song starts playing over side chat. I about spilled my drink when I heard the same song in your video, it's impossible to forget. Anyway, the guy laughs and apologizes, said he was trolling people on other servers before he joined ours. A few minutes later he disconnected without causing any ruckus at all. I had completely forgotten about it until now. Also, this video is awesome. While I don't condone scripting (the obvious teleport), and I only semi-condone trolling (as long as it's humorous), if guys like this didn't get bored we wouldn't have videos like this to alleviate our own boredom. Thanks for posting it.

    Starting Gear.. sucks.

I understand where OP is coming from, as usually when I join a server that gives too much starting gear I just log off and find another. As mentioned the description usually tells me enough to stay away from them, but every once in a while I find one that isn't. It's not a big deal, I can just log off and find another. I don't mind a can of beans, a coke, a few bandages, and a coyote pack. I can even roll with a makarov and a few mags, a hatchet, or morphine. Those things are easy enough to get it doesn't hinder the scavenging experience for me. Sometimes if I'm in the mood I'll drop everything including the bandages and go at it "naked". There's a certain fun I get from that, but obviously it's not for everyone. Let the "I wanna AS50 all da time" kiddies play on their servers, so they stay off of mine. Really, I don't mind. If they're all congregated in a few places they're easy to avoid. The servers I play on I discovered through just hopping on and trying them, and I only kept playing on a few of them. It takes some time, but finding a server you like is paramount to enjoying the game IMO. tl:dr - Don't sweat it OP, you gotta wade through some shit to find some gold.
  13. Herder, server population seems to be highest around early afternoon for your time zone. There are usually a small handful on later in the evening as well.

    DIfferent Server Different FPS?

MSI Afterburner boosted me around 10 fps on most servers. There are plenty of helpful tips if you search online. I will say from experience it's a good idea to keep your GPU drivers up to date.
  15. Also note that some servers are also "Whitelisted", meaning they have to approve your GUID before you can join. Generally the server host has a forum or other website you can submit your information to for whitelisting. I've run into a few that were locked and required passwords as well.

    If Rocket messaged you tomorrow...

This. If not that, I would love to see the list of toolbelt items expanded and improved so they are more than a single purpose item. The ability to mark on my own unique map for example. Say I loot a map from a Supermarket, and find a tent as well. After I set my tent up and stash my beans, I can mark the locaiton on my map. I'm the only one that can see it, the markings aren't global like they are in the mod. After I stash my beans and bullets, lets say I take a run through Elektro looking for an ALICE pack to replace my crappy patrol pack. With predictable results, I am killed. The player who loots my body - and obtains my map, can see the markings I have made on it once it is in his possession and in his toolbelt. There are quite a few common items like the map example that can have a lot more functionality, and I'd like to see them worked on. Radios with programmable frequencies that players can use to communicate via VOIP with any radio on that frequency, and what happens when it's looted from my body in Elektro along with my map? Match boxes that deplete after a number of uses The entrenching tool should be able to be equipped like a hatchet or crowbar, and used to bash heads (or bury your trash, extinguished campfires, or even your poop if the rumors are true). New tools could be introduced as well. Flint and steel for use starting fires as long as it isn't raining , and does not deplete with use like matches. A mess kit as both an alternative to using a tin can to boil water, and to cook healthier food for better benefit. An anemometer for measuring wind speed and direction (see quoted post). Water purification tablets for those players who haven't found everything needed to boil water, or those who simply don't want to risk starting a campfire. These should also deplete with use. Weapon cleaning kits to help prevent weapon deterioration. Several types of toolkits. Small tools for repairing weapons and adding attachments. Large toolkits for repairing or stripping vehicles. You get the idea I hope.

Anyone else miss when you were a noob?

I've played another online game going on three years now, and I've always told new players who are frustrated with a rough start to enjoy it while they can. Eventually they will get bored with it, the magic will just disappear one day. DayZ is the same way for me. My first month was the best time I ever had in this game, even though it was hell (I had zero experience with Arma). I'll always miss those initial periods in my favorite games when everything was new.
  18. Or I'd find a place to you know, sleep. The night time issue is an issue of missing game mechanics. Your eyes do not adjust to the dark in game at all. It stays pitch black no matter what, you don't have even a modicum of night vision after a bit. I also find it quite funny that OP is making a list of things players do to avoid dying, when a major point of the game is NOT to die.

    Loadout of choice thread?

I used to love the M14/DMR combo for a primary, but lately I've been coming across M16 ACOG's. I like that it has decent range, can use SD mags, and can be used with NVG's. Since the scope is only 4x, it's good for medium range and passable at longer ranges if your patient. It's also easy to range with, short of the SVD reticle it's the best in the game for this IMO. 3 standard mags and 2 SD mags and I'm set. I'll often bring an M24 and one DMR mag in my pack as well. For pistols I like the G17.

    How does everyone else feel?

I'm trying to figure out exactly what your complaint is. Are you upset that you got shot with a sniper rifle instead of a medium range weapon? The tags on the thread are why I ask. Are you upset that it happened at an airfield? Are you upset because you think the player who shot you was "camping"? (not confirmed that he was) Honestly this is stupid. You jack two guys for their vehicle (good job), then complain when you get shot (shame on you). I don't think the type of rifle you got shot with matters much either. I've taken up hides in town with Enfields and M16's and sniped players many times. A sniper isn't a sniper based on his rifle. A sniper shoots from a concealed position, with precision fire. I understand why people don't like it, but that's the way snipers are supposed to be. The effectiveness of a sniper is largely based on the psychological effect that they create. You call it camping, I call it sniping. That is how they're supposed to operate - find a hide, observe an area, and when a target is found they reduce it. People don't like it because they feel helpless. Well, you're supposed to. Maybe some people get off on the superiority they feel, I can see that. Maybe some players think its safer than fighting close quarters. Possibly, they want the most OP weapon they can find (the .50 rifles). There is nothing wrong with those weapons, it's just the general idea that you HAVE to have the "best" gear that I personally don't fall in line with. It's likely different for every player. You don't like it, so don't do it. They do, so they will. Sandbox, etc. I can only speak for myself on this, but for me it's about the shot. I LIKE setting up a 900m shot with an M24 and hitting the target. I like taking a 300m shot with an Enfield. I like taking a 600m shot with an M16 ACOG. If the target is moving, it's all the better. If I get bored I'll find an empty server and shoot cows and sheep for practice. If I'm "camping" an area, that means I've spent a few hours prior scouting the area, and am in a carefully chosen spot. If I wait there for two hours before I find a target I like, the shot and the loot makes it worth it for me. You and others may not understand it, but I'm not going to play the game a different way to please other people. Its not as if snipers are unkillable. You simply need to take their possible presence into account and plan for it.
  21. No contradiction there, in fact I clarified it in the part of post you cut out. I would consider shooting on sight to be shooting anyone I see, not choosing whether or not to fire based on what the player is visibly carrying. I don't want to root through someones inventory to find a hatchet, a bandage, painkillers, flares, and a flashlight. Well, it's as they say. Kill, or be killed.

    Am i a bandit?

You don't have to leave them behind. They'll still roll with each other most likely. You can always set up another profile and play on it a different way from time to time.
  23. Trying to rob someone puts me at unnecessary risk. Everyone who has ever tried to rob me I've been non-compliant with. I'm not dropping shit - you'll have to kill me. I would expect the same from others. If I want your shit, I'm going to try and kill you for it. If you want MY shit, I'm going to try and kill you, even of I'm likely to die trying. I don't KOS, only if you're likely to have something I want. If you have a hatchet and a patrol pack, I'm probably going to just keep my head down. I want the guy with the NVG's, M4 Holo, M107, etc.
  24. Yeah, I was looting a HV military spot when I got the red chain of death... if someone finds my UAZ before I can log back on, enjoy the M24 and M4 CCO in the trunk. I would love for Scott or Omni to find it, since it's the rifle I tried to knock them out of the air with yesterday. I'm pretty sure I hit the pilot with the M24 at least once as I saw blood on the windscreen. Not sure about whoever was door gunning. I was busy dodging fire, so it was hard to get a clean shot off. Was a fun few minutes. :)
