Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?
codave replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
This forum is borderline full retard lately. Teh hell is wrong with some of you? I can't say what firearm ownership is like in the specific part of the world the game takes place in, I simply have no clue. Never been there, never want to go there. I won't even set foot in California, Illinois, or New York. Actually, well over half of my "collection" is illegal in CA and NY to begin with... that being said, I play this game for the firearms as much as I do for the Zombie/Survival aspect of it. That's just how I am, and I'm betting I'm no different than many others. There is a huge disconnect in opinions in regards to weaponry (clearly). I'm sure there are a lot of reasons, and with in depth polling and research I'm sure we could boil it down to the most basic reasons for it, but that would be a waste of time. In the end, the Dev team is going to do what they're going to do. Maybe we have some sway here or there when it comes to the outcome of the game, but really we're simply making sure their ideas are working as they intended for them to work, it's all part of testing. We aren't designers, we aren't developers (at least for this game), and we certainly aren't paid consultants. We aren't going to like every single aspect of this game (or any other), so we just have to deal with it and choose whether we wish to continue playing it or not. Believe me, I wish there were more games I could stand to play, but as it stands there are very few. I take the bad with the good, and try not to get too worked up about it. I'm not entitled to anything from the Dev team, and neither are any of you. There is absolutely no point in going full retard on the forums, especially towards other members. We put each other through enough hell in-game as it is, why bring it here? -
HiPoint 995? Really?
-
They all act differently. Once I got the hang of using the axes they don't feel as bad anymore.
-
A lot of people's firearm knowledge is based only on what they play in games and see on TV... 22LR is a capable round if you can actually hit what you're aiming at. Plenty of people have been killed with that round in the real world. I own more 22 weapons than anything else, actually.
-
I believe it was Gews who said there is content in game files for the 10/22 Give me one of those and a suppressor and I'll be a Zombie slaying machine... A .22 pistol would also be nice to have, if I can get one with a can, even more bettah. As far as which weapons, I'd be happy with just the Ruger.

Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]
codave replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
It just so happens humidity has a much less severe effect on bullet flight than other factors, such as barometric pressure or temperature. I'm of the opinion that it doesn't need to be so in depth that we need a ballistic calc to find our adjustments, wind and drop would be more than enough I think. Add to that proper adjustment values of MOA or mil instead of 100m increments, and take away rangefinders and we're talking... -
Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]
codave replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely. The thing is I don't want realism just with weaponry, I would like to see it in all aspects of the game to some degree. -
Yep... Although I've used both screwdrivers and axes to open cans, and it seems like you spill more with an axe than you do a screwdriver. Anyone else have a similar observation, or am I just experiencing confirmation bias?
-
I hung out on the coast my first few days checking out the new sights, and died a lot. After I felt that I had seen all there was to see, I started moving inland... and I rarely see other players anymore. When I do see them, they're easy to avoid.
-
To hell with realism, authenticity, context, or setting. I simply hate the damn things. NO. If you want a suggestion that doesn't offend any of the aforementioned, a CZ 75 would be fucking awesome to have in game.
-
I have yet to find an actual can opener. I've been prying that shit open with a screwdriver.

I just looted Stary and Novy without having to eat once... OP is doinitrong.

Server Hopping/Combat logging-How it ruins the Dayz experience
codave replied to Hero of Suburbia's topic in General Discussion
The first few days I played SA, I played on one server that usually had about 30ish people on it. I got tired of not being able to test anything, because I couldn't find anything. I started server hopping to find gear to test shit out with, and it's a night and day difference in the amount of gear I get in the same amount of time. (Note: I haven't killed any players or participated in PvP, so not doing it for an advantage over others). It's a legit problem for sure. Joe Blow can gear up in about 30 minutes server hopping, while someone playing on a single server all night may take hours to get decent gear. I would honestly love DayZ more if there was nothing but private hives. -
You know, the community tolerates a lot of whining, self entitled 'gimme gimme', and other asshattery. This is the second comment I've seen like this in the last 30 minutes. It's completely uncalled for, and I hope the stupid actually hurts.

I initially missed the part where he tried to relate DayZ to WoW, so I must edit my rating. This rant is now a 1/10, though bear in mind it was dangerously close to decimal territory. <_<

My first player encounter was on the coast between Kamenka and Balota. Neither of us had anything, so it was a short "Hey man, good luck" type deal. Since then... - Ran into a guy in Balota hangars warning me that there was a guy with a gun in the ATC tower, who was killing people. - Ran into a guy in Cherno, traded rags for food (then my game crashed). - Crazy axe murderer out of nowhere. - Player with an M4 shot me in a church (he's going to Hell for that one). - Saw a guy in a house at night with a flashlight. I took cover outside and told him "Unarmed friendly outside" a few times, didn't get a response... so I left. I've been in remote areas of the map the last few days, haven't seen anyone in a while. The encounters I've had thus far have been pretty decent.

Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]
codave replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
Realistic weapons are a huge sticking point to me (this makes it hard to watch action movies). It drives me nuts that I can't just top off the internal magazine of my Mosin without emptying it first, for example. -
I give the rant a 3/10. Not enough swearing or spelling mistakes. Needs more anger. Work on it some more, and bring it back to us.

Aimpoints have elevation and windage adjustments, but it's just for initial zero. You zero it for whatever range you prefer (mine is set for 50m), and you leave it. It's basically used with a battlesight zero, as Gews was talking about. No need to adjust either wind or elevation with a non-magnified optic. Magnified scopes are another matter entirely, as well as weapons that have adjustable apertures/rear leafs. +1 to everything Gews just said...
-
Gews does that. I'd be curious to see results with scopes and bipods as well. I'd test it, but I can never find all the things I need... :)

That's funny. Camping. If I take my time and scout a town before I enter, I can be accused of camping. If I decide not to scout the area and run right in, I'm careless and deserve to be killed. Too much of this is "damned if you do, damned if you don't". So here's a thought, lets address the actual topic of the thread (hacking) instead of ripping someone for their playstyle. How's that sound? AS TO THE ACTUAL TOPIC, I had a guy a few days ago attack me with an axe. Then he'd disappear. All the sudden he's behind me. I try to chop him back, he disappears. I run, all the sudden he's in front of me. At the time I assumed de-sync or something similar, but nothing like that has happened since. I have yet to experience a blatant teleport of my character though.

Can I use a burlap sack on someones head?
codave replied to BlackFusion's topic in New Player Discussion
I had not considered that, and I've been trying to figure out what the hell it's even used for... -
Didn't say I wanted to be like him, just that it's still a proper weapon to smoke some dudes with. :D I'm not a proper badass like he was... I'll take teh scope, plox.

My goal for today is to NOT become unconscious, and to find a Mosin and mount an optic on it. Hell, Simo Hayha apparently had no problem killing tons of Russians with it. I'm fine with that... I'll even be happy with a scoped Enfield, as I've been wanting one since forever in the game. Even if we had AS50's and M107's back, I'd continue to dispose of them in any way possible, same as I did in the mod. I simply have no use for them. Also, extra lulz for the internet firearm experts in this thread. I'm glad Gews dropped in (as I expected he would). My wife can speak with more authority on the weight/recoil of a .50 cal than most of this forum, being that she's actually fired them on multiple occasions... so just stop with the "realism" arguments. Please.

I generally like the game but I had my worst PC game experience ever today
codave replied to TrangleC's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds about like my first day. Looks like a run of bad luck, nothing more.
