[FIXED?] Too many zombies DISCUSSION
Pat_the_Bunny replied to yoski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I joined after the 1.5.7 update and felt the amount of zombies was perfect; they weren't so clustered that it made navigating through towns impossible, but it did offer a challenge for those of us who like to sneak. Now it's pretty much a joke. -
How do you survive as a lone wolf?
Pat_the_Bunny replied to The Killing Joke's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Playing solo I feel your best bet is to head inland straight away (which is even easier at night becasue most people won't be able to see you and you shouldn't need flares to find your way) and stop at the first town you come across to stock up. There's less zeds and less of a chance you'll run into hostile players. -
An open letter to the silent majority
Pat_the_Bunny replied to Satire (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wasn't going to bother creating an account until I found out Dayz is still in the Alpha stage, then I felt it was kind of my responsibility to join in and give whatever feedback and suggestions I could to help out. -
THE Night is TOO DAMN DARK Thread. Others will be deleted etc.
Pat_the_Bunny replied to Slamz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe night is unrealistically dark, maybe it isn't, we could agrue this (and probably will) from now until the end of time and still not come to an agreement, but the fact of the matter is it's not impossible, or even difficult to a degree that would warrent such hostility, to navigate through cities/towns or the wilderness at night. With one well-place flare and you can have enough light to make it through the smaller towns with little to no issues, and maybe two or three plus a chem light for the cities. -

Ten minutes is a bit harsh, but I do like the idea of needing to replish the goggles from time to time. -

On risk-reward, difficulty, and death
Pat_the_Bunny replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I was under the impression that it was an anti-game and as such meant to be hard. Ummm...what? What the hell is an anti-game? Something you do to avoid amusement? Sounds like a trip to the DMV. Seriously though, I don't understand what you're getting at. -
How to make Survivors trust you?
Pat_the_Bunny replied to matheusvltt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As a survivor, I can tell you preying on people's naivete is far more efficient than gaining their trust. I don't know how many times I've seen people asking for friendlies to group up in Cherno/Electro, some responds with "I'm friendly. Meet me at the church/school/firstation and we'll head out.", and a few moments later the plebes are raging about being lead into a trap. -

Yeah, I figured it out after I made the post. Thanks though, more rep for the help! -

Love the idea for a quiver! If I had any idea how to give rep I would. Edit: Ha, figured it out. -
And that's the trade off. Surviving on your own will always be more of a challenge than surviving as a group, no matter how you look at it. It's not required to group up to make significant progress, but it does make thing a hell of a lot easier, and thus encourages and rewards those who do.

Just drop you pack if you don't want it, but if you find you need more inventory slots, then grab another pack; problem solved. :P
-
And you are able to survive without being in a group, and with the penalties you suggested. Cooked meat doesn't require any assistance to heal yourself, but it doesn't heal nearly as much. Things are already fairly balanced for either playstyle, so the bloodpacks are fine the way they are.

On risk-reward, difficulty, and death
Pat_the_Bunny replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think reducing the amount of gear you respawn with would increase the amount of PvP along the coast. I don't go out of my way to kill others, but if I only had one mag to start with I don't have anything to lose at that point and would shoot the first person I came across just for the ammo and beans. As it is I now any player can head straight inland and not have to worry about a whole lot, which makes it a little more friendly. I could be wrong though. The thirty minute wait on respawning is something I've seen suggested before, and I can't for the life of me understand why. I seriously doubt something like this would ever happen because too many people would fall away from the game. I get that people want more penalties for death, but in the end this is just a game, and such harsh punishments are bad for business. -
Silence dead players in chat

I've never understood why so many people attempt to validate a claim by using the "in real life" thing, simply because most claims made this way can be easily dismissed by using the same reasoning. Back to the topic at hand though, I don't see an issue with people who have been killed relaying their position. If anything it gives whoever killed them the opportunity to sit back and wait for their next victim to come and loot the body. -
I NEVER wander into Cheno or Electro; I did the first few times I played, but soon realized these are the two biggest PvP hotspots on the map. You're much better off heading inland straight away and finding gear there; not only are the people trying to kill you less numerous, but the loot is easier to come by because most people seem to stick around the coast.

I don't like this idea. As it's been said, you can eat cooked meat to replenish your blood if you don't have anyone one around to help you, although you don't get nearly as much, which I feel is a fair trade off. Needing two people for a transfusion is a good idea for the community because it will make people a) want to join a group within the community so they can have people watching out for them, or b) take the risk of asking strangers to help you out.

I've always preferred the faster zombies; I honestly don't see how the slow, shuffling ones would be any kind of a threat outside of an enclosed area. Even as they are now they aren't that much of a threat because they have to stop before they make their attack, so you can kite an entire horde and just pop off a few round when you get a moment, then rinse and repeat until you're either out of ammo, or the horde is finished. I like the idea of a stamina system that would slowly decrease your speed until you could no longer out run the zombies and be forced to fight. Also, I like the unpredictable paths they take, because it adds difficulty to an otherwise easy zombie encounter. If they made a b-line straight for you it would be too easy to sit back with an AK and drop every one of them without worry, so I say the zig-zagging zeds should stay.

Not my experience, but definitely something that belongs here: The link is for part 2, which is enough to get the feel of what happened, but part 1 is worth a watch as well. -
that feeling you get....

I was looting Zelenogorsk a few days ago and kept seeing some one ask for a transfusion. The guy seemed pretty desperate so I figured I'd ask where he was to see if I was willing to make the trek to help the guy; turns out him and his party were just arriving at the southern end of Zelen, so I told him I would meet them and help the guy out. I was pretty sure I was walking into a trap and was going to get a bullet in the brain, but I met up with the group with no shots being fired and gave the transfusion without incident. I figured that would be the end of it and I started heading back to my looting, but I noticed the guy I had helped, who's name was James, left his group and was following me. I was a bit on edge about this at first, but I reasoned if they were going to try anything it would have been while they were in a group and I was out-gunned, so I asked if he needed a rifle and when he said yes I told him I would escort him to the barns in the NE of town to grab some gear. We were sneaking through backyards and across streets with no real issues when a zed spawned directly in front of me and went instant-aggro. I booked it into the nearby field with the zombie in tow and checked to make sure James was alright, but saw that he had three right on his ass, so I cut between him and the zombies to draw their attention and once I'm a good deal away from town I unload my Winchester and remedy the situation. After that was taken care of we continued our journey to the barns without any further conflict, and I escort him safely back to his group. The instant we met up with his group I get disconnected, so I don't know what happened after that, but in a land of bandits and turncoats, I'd like to think I made at least a small difference. TL;DR: Gave a transfusion to a total stranger, escorted him through town for better gear, saved his life on the way, and got him safely back to his group. Maybe euphoric isn't the correct way to explain how this situation made me feel, but it was easily the most feel-good moment I've had since I've started playing. -
Here's a few things I've thought of during my two days of playing this mod: Camelbacks - I haven't played since the 1.5.8 update, but I know water was a pain to come by if you weren't in the coast. Sure, I had a map and could see all the wells, but more often than not they were dry wells, and ponds were useless. This got me thinking it would be nice to have camelbacks introduced into the game; one (possibly two) inventory slot(s) for 3-5 drinks of water. Yes, I'm aware the update fixed the pond issues, and no, at the time I had no idea you could rehydrate with soda, so the motivations behind the idea are a bit invalid at this point, but I still feel it would be a nice, and simple, addition to the game. Zombies, and how they behave - First off, I would like to say I enjoyed the amount of deadies shuffling around towns, and feel that any less would make looting a total cakewalk, but that's besides the point. The biggest issue I have with the zombies is they stop before attacking you, which makes it too easy to just back-peddle and shoot them in the head when they have to stop, so maybe have them attack while on the move, then take a short pause after the damage is done. This would make them an actual threat, whereas now they're just a minor annoyance. I feel the zeds having only two speeds, mosey and balls-to-the-wall-sprint, is something that should be looked at. If they hear a gunshot they should investigate, which would be the middle-ground of their speeds, before they attack. While investigating they would be more alert and thus make spotting the player easier for them, but it still give us a chance to get away. I have a few other ideas, but I'm sure they've already been addressed, so I'll end this here.

It's nice to see someone else showing the crossbow some love. Although I do not play a bandit, I have found the crossbow to be quite nice when it comes to disposing of those I'm not too sure about. -
Are they taking away Bandits?
Pat_the_Bunny replied to aesaunic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A bit of a false-conscensus we got going on here. Just because you won't trust anyone now that they aren't branded criminals doens't mean the community as a whole is going to feel the same way. I don't trust anyone I come across, and for the most part just avoid those I don't know, but there have been occasions I have crawled through zombie infested towns to help people who said they were in need of blood, knowing full well that I could be heading into a trap, and on the flip-side I've put a bolt through a guy's head simply because he didn't "feel right". Removing the bandit skin will scare those who aren't comfortable with weighing risk against reward into seclusion, or away from the game altogether, but will not come close to destroying the community.
