Just confirming this works perfectly, prior to reading this I was in the process of reinstalling Arma 2 retail, this replaced the Steam keys that were in the registry. I Exported the the Key reg files (now retail) from the registry and saved them (you only need Operation Arrowhead key I think). Then I opened the Steam game and loaded it up which replaced the key in the registry, I exported that new Key reg file (steam) and saved it. So now all I have to do is double click the .reg files for the corresponding game (steam/retail) when I want to play, which replaces the key in the registry and then play the game normally.

I bought a second copy of Combined Operations from BI's website for Steam so I could have two characters on DayZ (as my brother can't play as much as me so I need an alt to play whilst he is away) but now I appear to be stuck with the new character (as I assume the Arma 2 cd keys were changed in the registry when I opened the Steam version (my original copy is retail). So I need a way to easily switch between the two cd keys or have some way to stop the two installations (retail and steam) to stop conflicting with eachother and I can easily play on either. If I switch back to my old cd key will my old character come back, or is that one lost? Thanks!

Was hoping someone could help me, when my Arma 2 combined ops finally finishes downloading in Steam and I try to install the latest beta patch for OA how can I select the installation directory in steamapps instead of my retail Arma 2 directory which already has the latest beta patch installed. I do not see any option to choose the directory as it seems to automatically find it. Or if I run the beta patch installer will it just install in both directories? I bought Arma 2 from BI's site (for steam) so I could have an alt character and was also wondering if the Arma 2 Documents folders will conflict with eachother and how I can get around that? I think just creating a different profile in the Steam game will be fine in differentiating the two so they have their separate CD-Keys and I can have two characters (one I use to stay with my brother who can't play as much as me, the other I will play on when he's away).

I have just purchased another copy of ArmA 2 Combined Operations from BI's website for Steam so I can have a second character in DayZ. It is annoying only being able to play when my brother is on so I wanted another char so I can play a lot more. Arma 2 and OA are downloading at the moment, is there anything I should be doing to make sure the second copy of Arma 2 runs smoothly. Will it conflict with the Arma 2 folder in Documents or is there something I should be doing to make both copies work individually? Thanks Edit: I forgot to mention, my original copy of Arma 2 is retail, the one I just bought from BI is Steam. Anyone has any info on this?

I like Dxtory personally, using Lagarith codec your file sizes aren't astronomical and quality is still high. Fraps always made my game freeze for a second when it moved to a new recorded file and Dxtory doesn't have that problem (as it can record hours of footage without changing file sometimes), it also has great customisation though I must admit I have never tried bandicam or other alternatives (except MSI afterburner which doesn't record mic). Here's a clip I made of stumbling across a survivor in Balota with no weapon and waiting tensely for my brother to show up with a gun just observing the survivor, skip to the last few minutes if you don't want the tension built up. :)

Fixing server hopping and disconnecting during combat I hope is high on their priorities because it is a big problem.

Rolling back to 93965 fixed it for my brother (why doesn't it happen to me though, we are both running retail), just delete all the files in the Arma 2/Expansion/Beta folder and then install 93965 again.

Yeah this always happens, sometimes you are lucky enough, as machoman said to pick up the loot under it which occasionally allows you to interact with the backpack and pick it up. But I would suggest never dropping your backpack, just choose Take Backpack so you know you wil be getting a backpack even if your other one goes missing when they swap.
