Ah well. It'll take a few more encounters like this one until I start to shoot 1st! So what if I have to start over a few times?

I just made my 1st reluctant player kill. A guy called "killer". I'm pretty sure he'd already taken some pot shots at me as I entered the office building near the elektro supermarket and there were a lot of dead bodies littering the street. Long story short after being fired upon and managing to get away I work back around to the supermarket, Dead bodies everywhere outside and one inside. I quickly pick up anything useful including replacing a makarov with an M1911. Stuffed my face with some beans to restore a little blood since id taken a round in the office building and turned around to see some bloke with an m24 sneaking in the rear behind me. He looks at me, I look at him and just as I reach for my mic button BANG. Somehow he misses me, a stationary target 10 yards in front of him. A full m1911 clip to the chest and he's on his back. I move up intending to disarm and bandage him while he's out cold but up popped the message "killer is killed" Oh well. landed me a Coyote Backpack, m24 and m16a2. What I don't get is we were looking at each other for over a second and a half. I'd not fired when I clearly could have so why didn't he line the shot up properly if his intent was always to kill me?

Which weapon should I keep?

AS50 would probably get my vote in your position. Single shot kills must be nice! I have a similar problem. Have an M24 for my long range rifle, FAL AND L85. FAL suits my play style as a battle rifle more than the L85 (I tend to go for single aimed shots so the extra punch is nice) but the L85 thermal is lovely for checking for nasty snipers. -
Just because its shown on the skin doesn't mean you are supposed to have it. Sunglasses don't darken your view for example and a ghillie doesn't make your backpack dissapear... oh hang on.....

Something recently occurred to me. Since ARMA2 is a military sim, are the damage values of all the weapons featured in arma2 and therefore DayZ supposed to represent their effectiveness against a target wearing body armour? Since 10+ pistol rounds to the chest to drop a player makes me think that could be the case!

Hi all, my 1st post, but have been playing DayZ on and off for roughly a month and this weekend has been my most interesting so far. Firstly an encounter with a hacker near Novy Sobor (luckily a "friendly" one dropping a HUGE pile of loot in front of me) which I alt f4'd out of. Followed by a naked beach spawn. Followed by spawning back in the correct place and making it to Stary where I got me a nice M203. Logged out, and back in, and decide to test the M203 on some Z, not realising id logged in the other side of a bush from another player, needless to say my 1st potshot with my new gun must have startled him! I got a bullet to the side of the head a second or two later! Next survival attempt was/is awsome. After a couple of problems with getting booted for "script exceptions while fiddling around with a newly looted map I again managed to gear up safely and head north. Found the holy grail at Mogilevka, my 1st heli crash! Sneaked in carefully without aggroing any Z and expecting at any moment to get shot inna head but nope... swapped out my AK-74 and remington for a Bizon SD, M14 AIM and my personal favourite, FN FAL! Bit of a result! I manage to sneak back out, taking a few Z out with the Bizon which was enough to learn its sights suck for headshots or perhaps its just me.... I get to some forest and log out. Next log in and i'm back on the beach again but no idea where. At least I have my gear this time Ah well. Find a bike and go whizzing around, pass what must have been cherno in a blurr and get to balota airfield. Into the little medical camp and drop a few Z with the bizon before checking for loot. Bizon got dropped, as did the M14, picked up a snazzy M24 instead and a single M9SD magazine for my sidearm then headed of on the bike. Totally lost now I spy a player legging it accross a field, now Im tooled up I dont just leg it. Fal up and into the aim, but hes a bit too far away and moving too quickly for me to get a good look so its M24 time. Lots of zombies after him now but I spy a BIG sniper rifle on his back, I figure that makes him fair game. miss with the 1st round, second hits him square in the back but he keeps going leaving a fountain of blood and the zombies right behind. No way is he gonna survive but hes zigzagging over a little rise. 3rd shot misses and he gets into a little bit of dead ground , I think I've just landed myself a .50 calibre of some sort but there was no kill message. Flank around where I saw him last but theres no sign and no zombie corpses either. So this weekend has seen my 1st hacker, 1st beach spawn bug, 1st logging in on top of someone, my 1st heli crash site, 1st attempt at being a murdering git, and I guess my 1st victim alt f4ing to escape!
