We need to be able to defend ourselves
Alendor replied to MrFoxx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
wow people need to stop with that stupid alpha excuse. if no one points out problems or their opinion then the devs don't know what to fix. its like some of you would prefer that there was no forums at all or something -
no Side chat = Community Growth will be damaged
Alendor replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
sidechat is important to have imo, removing communication from a multiplayer game is always counter productive. the majority of people who play multiplayer games don't play with a group of friends who are all on ventrillo. removing side chat is great when you play regularly with 5 friends who are on teamspeak/vent. but for the average everyday player who is just playing solo, they mayaswell just play a single player game, cause they won't be able to talk to anyone without side chat. if people hate seeing chat let it be turned off on the client side. i see no reason to punish the whole community just cause some people have a group of friends in vent, and don't like seeing chat while they play -
The issue regarding this mod, the people who bought the game for DayZ

read and understood both, doesn't change the fact that your giving sandbox examples that arn't available to dayz. perhaps you don't understand the discussion in the thread -

people often use the excuse that something being a sandbox has unlimited possibilities and doesn't need any content. they often forget, without that tonka truck earth mover, or the shovels and buckets, you'll get pretty bored in that sandbox rather fast. the purpose of a sandbox is to give people tools and let them enjoy experiment and enjoy them. not tell them that there is pleanty of sand and that they don't need anything else -
op does make a solid point tho, the community is starting to get very hostile. pretty much any idea that someone suggests is met with flaming and complaining that they are a cod noob. mortal online comes to mind when thinking of a similar situation, their forums were the same way and they argued and fought against any change/content in their game, and the devs started siding with them. game isn't exactly doing very well now

its sad how resistant some of the people in the community are towards change/adding content to the mod. -

if a zombie is an inch from my face attacking me, i should be able to make the thing out from the trees on the horizon. just sayin -

yup, its sad that a small group in the community would rather encourage everyone to exploit gamma instead of just fixing a problem. they don't mind the darkness cause they already have nvg ingame, and like the advantage they have. -
left 4 dead did zombies really well, keep em at a respectivly fast speed. however, at the same time they are zombies, fueled only to eat the first living thing they find, hence they would not be charging at you in serpentine patterns, but strait for you. as of right now unless the zombie is at extreme range, or point blank its really hard to land a shot, as they are moving at very high speeds usually at 45 degree angle from you. that simply makes no sense, and usually just ends up with zombie encounters ending by the player blasting them once they are in their face. alot of the tension of avoiding letting them get close by shooting them as they run up is gone as of right now. its pretty much just standing there and shooting them once they get point blank before they get an attack off. on the note about it being more realistic that zombies move fast. technically a zombie is dead flesh, which means blood has stopped pumping, which means muslces would tighten up and dry out, leaving them unable to move at high speeds at all.

crossbow works great actually. me and a friend use one to sneak into towns. 1 shot anywhere to a zombie will kill them now

not in the country man, theres no light polution where there are no lights light pollution isn't like smog or some other type of polution, it doesn't drift through the air, if there are no lights there is no light pollution on another note, it'll be funny when the new moon phase ends and the nights get naturally brighter, and the same people defending the darkness will be here complaining about how its not dark enough and not realistic altho with all those being said, a person's nightvision does varry from person to person. I have blue eyes which supposedly see alot better at night, so i suppose it is possible some people are that blind at night -

too many people seem to be ignoring the fact that the current level of darkness isn't realistic. you can't go anywhere in the world outside of buildings/caves and find darkness as pitch black as this game. fixing the issue would be no hit to realism, it would actually enhance it. too many people are saying they don't want to sacrifice realism, yet at the same time are arguing against making something more real. boggles the mind -

ya, people bring up the matches. you already had an item that could have been easily modified to require you to scavenge to start fires. I don't see the logic in adding a whole new item to the game to limit fires when you could have easily just modified the current one to be limited use. now i've read that there is thinking of adding a 3rd item item to the game to circumvent problems created by adding the 2nd one. thats a bad path to take in game design, you don't ever want to add new features to fix broken ones, instead you fix the broken feature at the start. Right now its possible we'll have two features added into the game to fix just one that was broken, and suprisingly the 2nd new item (hatchet) may be added to fix the fact that the first new item is in itself broken (wood that doesn't exist int he woods). The reality is matches are whats broken by having unlimited uses. Fix them and make them limited and you don't need to add wood, and in turn a hatchet. save the developement time and complexity for more important additions instead of adding new items just to fix current ones that arn't working, try just fixing the source instead.

Too many downsides playing night?
Alendor replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
please quote where i made that claim. i'm merely stating my opinion and explaining how i have arrived at it and where i'm coming from. if you see any friendly debate as someone trying to force their opinion on you' date=' an internet message board isn't the place for you. i don't recall saying my opinion is more important than anyone elses (you claim i do, which in turn would ironicly make you claiming that yours is more important than everyone elses aswell) game already has built in NV that everyone starts with. its called gamma control, and since nights are so dark that you can't play without it, the majority of the community is forced to use it -

frankly i don't think you should need wood. its so readily available, that the game should just assume you find some nearby and start the fire. heck even in towns there is wood and furniture readily available to burn. just take out the requirement. its not needed and honesly it just makes for more useless item piles for someone that isn't in dire need of cooked meat. the only advantage it gives is forcing people that stay in the wild to have to venture into towns every now and then, which technically isn't bad. however if he is adding a hatchet, it'll remove that whole effect, making wood redundant again (not to mention most wood that you cut from live trees doesn't burn well anyway, most burnable wood can usually be collected by hand) the whole wood thing is kind of an immersion breaker. especially when you can find 5 foot tall stacks of wood in towns that you can't collect wood from
