Visual effects, Are they an inconvenience?
Securion replied to PuRe DAYZ's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The COD kiddies will probably want as high FPS as possible. To make sure their K/D-ratio is socially acceptable to their peers. Personally though, I dont care that much about being at a disadvantage, or even loosing my beans to some little COD-Kiddie-znajpa. I want 100% immersion into this dystopian paradise that is DayZ, so I want it to feel as real as possible. All effects on High for me... As a 40 year old man I dont expect to be "twitching" as fast as a 12 year old in a video game. But I hope my patience and experience of survival could pay off in the game. As well as my 12 years in the military... A more "real" world, through the use of effects, could mean less focus on "twitch"-skills and more focus on taking it easy and actually be good at the game on another level...? -
What's your most favorite part about Day Z?
Securion replied to KateUpton's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The big map, the time there is between encounters with other players, base building, freedom of choise, and like some guy said; Fear and paranoia. -
High end realistic graphics vs Stylized graphics
Securion replied to Fat-Marco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Graphics dosnt have anything to do with the network code mate. -
First of all, let me say that im a former Quake 2 world champion, Quake 3 CTF EU champion, i have played Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 3 in one of Europes best competitive clans and i generally consider myself having a good aim, both in games and in real life (former army Captain). Close range aiming is very much fucked up in DayZ. I dont know why, and i dont know if its an game-engine problem, or just a bug somewhere, but in general its incredibly hard to predict your movements and aiming when trying to hit something at close range. I think consensus regarding aiming is that it should be easier to hit something at close range than long range (unless transversal speed is just ridiculous)... And i dont find this reflected in this game right now. Maybe something that should be under consideration to fix in the future/standalone game?

Interesting, i have not changed any config files by hand. (dont know how battleye will feel about that?) Is there some keywords i can use to search for this on Google? On how to tune it? -

I understand its pretty hard to get what im saying... im not sure if i make any sense myself... :P But i can swear that there is some sort of randomness for where your aim ends up when you move your mouse to aim at close ranges. Most (all?) games have their own "feel" for where your aim ends up, and you quickly learn to compensate or just get the hangs of it, but in DayZ i feel i dont get that precission that i should have at close ranges. Sure, i win most fights, but the aim is somehow messed up. You dont feel confident that your gun will point exactly where you think it will. There are NO problems at long ranges though. -

Some clan mates have been discussing if there actually might be some randomness built into the engine? To compensate for something (weight? wind?)? -

No im talking about movement prediction and the ability to keep a target in my sights at close range. The sights i have no problem with. Usually when you start playing a new game your not used to the controls, the "feel" for the engine, if you know what i mean? With DayZ i find that that "feel" is never the same. Its like there is some randomness for where you end up pointing your gun when trying to hit a target at close range. Its very subtle, but its there. -

I have more than 300 hours in Arma II SP. I dont think its a "getting used to" type of thing, and thats why i started this thread to begin with. Im kinda "used to getting used to" new FPS games, if you know what i mean? Im used to tweaking settings and controls to have them "perfect" and make aiming easier. -
bandit punishment or reasons to player kill u deside....
Securion replied to zzSTABBYzz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why not add Quad Damage powerups as well? No thank you. -
I dont really care if you fix things for the Mod or not; All i want is a good standalone game. Focus on that and DayZ will have a future.

My wife logged out in the north west and the next time she logged in she was inside a wall in a house in the south...

Been there done that...

Most ppl i know that have stopped playing DayZ have stopped because of hackers and *bugs. *Not being able to hit shit in close combat, breaking your leg everywhere, zombies going through walls, equipment disapering, clunky inventory system, etc.... Most people will also definitely come back at release.
-
I want it harder to survive, not easier. But bugs shouldnt kill you, zombies and people should.

I expect DayZ to continue being the worlds hardest and harshest game to play. An anti-game as you so nicely put it. I want to sit silently while everyone describe how fucking hard and deadly their games are and then just finish the whole conversation up with "I play DayZ" and have everyone go silent for 15 minutes staring at me, and then say "R..r....r..r..really...?!?" with terror in their faces, the women starting to cry and all children running out of the room. I wanna feel like a complete masochist. I want to feel ive just wasted four days of my life as i get sniped in Electro. I want to cry myself to sleep at night. The deadliest, hardest, most terrifying, ultra realistic and fucking awesome game in the history of mankind please. DELIVER! ;) PS. Without the fucking script kids. DS.

You should have stayed hidden and used their camp as a refit area in case you die. They probably would not have found out for a very long time if you only took what you needed every now and then.

Starting without basic survival tools arent very realistic in a game like this. I mean how have you been able to survive so far? It also promotes the now infamous "noob-running" that occurs. A player spawns and dont care about anything until he finds a weapon, resulting in that player running a gauntlet in Cherno or Electro while being under constant fire from snipers. Spawn, run, die, spawn, run, die, spawn, run, find a weapon! And all of a sudden the player feels he is part of the world instead of a sniper victim. Now, all of a sudden, he can defend himself and starts valuing his life. Its also about freedom, as the OP says. If you give people the basic equipment needed to live either off the land or sneak around in towns to find food, you have given them choise. And in a world like DayZ choice is everything. Give people the equipment needed to hunt and cook meat. The player can then choose if he wants to risk it to go into town or not. Also, it gives players the freedom to not go into the closest towns but instead go further north, populating more of the map. Just my 2 cents.

A way to deal with bandits, maybe?

Bandits are not a problem. Spawning without any means of self-defense is. -
Oh noes, consequences to your actions!?! Buhuu!? :D

My game experience of my last 7 lives.
Securion replied to fiese_moep's topic in New Player Discussion
You dont actually play DayZ, do you? If you somehow have missed all the noobs just running around these days, not caring if they live or die until they have found a primary weapon, you must have lived under a tree in the north or something. Its like a Benny Hill show. Absolutely crazy. For us that have friends its not a problem; We just go north and take what we need from our base. But for new or lonely players its a 30-60 min run to find the basic survival stuff and most often get killed before you have that. Then just restart and do the noob-run again. As i said; Its not "survival"; Its ridiculous. -

Securion replied to fiese_moep's topic in New Player Discussion
Spawn. Run around like crazy to find a weapon. Die from a sniper. Repeat. Not much survival gameplay in this survival game... Unless you define "survival gameplay" as being the target on a sniper course. If you actually should try to sneak and avoid attention, you will be a sitting duck for all the snipers. And you cant survive in the wilderness since you dont even have a knife, axe or matches on you. How you have survived so far is a mystery. 10% of the server population is maxed out in gear (mostly from hacking) and snipe noobs while the noobs desperately tries to find a weapon to shoot back. Hardcore? Nope. Ridiculous. Solution? Give all fresh spawns a rifle, knife, hatchet and some matches. Everyone can at least try to survive then. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Securion replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Give newly spawned survivors a weapon so they dont have to make those silly suicide runs. Not much "survival" in this survival game anymore... -
Not starting with a weapon really makes the early game a silly "run around and dont care if you die"-type of game. If you started with the basic tools for survival you might actually try to survive from the start instead of just running, running and running in a wild chase for a weapon. If the snipers dont get you the zombies will. Then restart. Not much "survival" really, since you dont even try until you have a weapon. That and the graphical glitches makes the game a bit boring right now.
