Are we allowed to kick suspected hackers without definitive proof?
delloc replied to ForcefulCJS's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I always Kick before banning someone. Generally they get the point, and no your server will not get blacklisted for kicking someone suspected of cheating. Generally my process is: 1. Warn player 2. Kick Player and put their GUID on my suspect list 3. If the player returns and continues, ban them locally I have not been confronted by someone that said they were not hacking in the forums when Ive used this process and if someone did its a he said/he said debate... My response go play on another server. There has to be compelling reason why I would let them back on. -
Bigmike3575 So my recommendation is that you: Build and run an Arma2 OA dedicated server either off your home pc or wherever to build a level set of knowledge Then decide if you want to run DayZ Mod for that server The Dayz community are not experts on Arma2 OA server deployment, as a general rule, so questions regarding how to get x or y to work (mostly with the base arma 2 environment) can go unanswered. Start Here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Dedicated_Server Good Luck, oh and just to be clear....its harder to run a server than it looks B)

Revolver and M1911 nerfed?
delloc replied to sethcombs@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here is the thing, I dont care if they are rotting or what, a 45 round to the chest...nothing lives/moves after that... well on two legs anyway. Dont nerf a weapon because its good at being a weapon, make stronger or different types of zombies. Also, the reason the M1911 is so silent is due to how slow the round moves...hell its nearly SD type of round. -
Im really getting tired of them nerfing guns because they match real world conditions. A 45 slug to the chest of anyone and you will not be living much longer. Yes, you could come up with some crazy path of entry in the body that wont kill someone, but even so they are not going to be running after taking the round.

So basically the response is; Go find something to do that the game allows, because the sandbox mode, but really isn't something to "do". I think this really goes to the "What's next" question... Will Day Z ever be more than the first stage of a disaster scenario? For those that don't understand what I am talking about, here is the breakdown. Disasters, major ones anyway, have stages. The first is a complete social and authority breakdown. This stage sees a dangerous world where everyone is really on their own. There is no law enforcement, government, or support system for anyone and the strong/prepared survive. Right now that is Day Z, but the game has elements of stage two; People having their supplies, immediate needs met, and start looking for others to create a group. So are we ever going to get to stage 2 or beyond? Or is this always to remain in stage 1?

I have played DayZ for some time now and have been a bandit and trusting survivor. For the bandits, the game is essentially complete, well maybe some more guns are needed. For survivors it’s a little different, there is nothing past getting the basics. Yes you can get a car, tent, a bunch of tents, more cars, but then what? We all know this is an open ended scenario and I am not looking to change that, but really there is nothing more to do from a survival standpoint once you get a knife, water bottle, matches, and a hatchet. Anything beyond this is just making life after a death easier. This is an alpha, lets break some shit and put in crazy fun stuff; People building forts, a zombie safe zone device that once setup will attract zombies in a town and if you kill all the zombies you clear the town, or something else radical and fun playing with, because right now survival == boring.

Hmmm I wonder if they will go back and make people upgrade or discontinue their access to Dayz?!? I host US 132 on a dedicated server from http://www.ubiquityhosting.com/. It wont be cheap, but it wont break the bank either. My Server Specs: Windows 2008 Server 1x Intel Xeon E3-1230 - 4 x 3.20 GHz 4GB RAM 1 TB SATA-II 3.0 Gb/s 100 Mbps Uplink Port 10,000 GB a Month Metered

Servers restarting without warning
delloc replied to Mattolio (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Mattolio, Well most of us Admins try to meet these basic requests. But there is some stuff you need to understand about the gaming environment before getting all hot and bothered: 1. Dayz is in Alpha, so the code is fairly unstable 2. Arma 2:OA as a standalone server app is quite finicky and can be downright a pain at times 3. Tools for automation need a good bit of tweaking for everyone to use, so it can break Server Admins are in the middle between the Game and Players, and to be quite frank the players are like piranha. When they see a new server come online it’s like blood in the water, they swarm. Now the funny thing is that this rush can actually crash the server or at best bring the backend process to communicate to the central Dayz stuff to its knees. So comments like this don’t change my perception that players are piranhas. -
Hello All that play on US 132, The server continues to have issues as I finalize my start/restart scripts. Please be aware that over the next few days, hopefully before Friday night, I will be bringing the server up and down randomly as I work on these scripts. Thanks for your patience! Eston

Hello Everyone, I am having some issues with my server and getting it up and running and maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I purchased: Arma 2 (Arma 2: Combined Operations( Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead (Arma 2: Combined Operations) From Store Bistudio to run the server. Both install to the same Arma2 Folder (so no Operation Arrowhead folder) I have installed the latest patch, 93701. I have gone through the server setup, downloaded the file with my instance id…. And I get the following errors in my server log: First Set of errors: Version 1.60.93702 Item str_disp_server_control listed twice Cannot register unknown string STR_VERY_LARGE Item STR_ACTIONS_BUILD listed twice Warning Messages: (These repeat for various files) Warning Message: No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgDifficulties/Recruit.recoilCoef'. Warning Message: '/' is not a value Any thoughts?, thanks in advance! Ok if you get these errors, its means the base Arma2/Arma2:OA files are not patched to 1.60 (sigh)

What does "waitng for server response" really mean?
delloc posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So maybe pin this so people can know, but what does "waiting for server response" really mean? Also, how is the server architecture working? Is Client to Host Server, Host Server requests from Dayz persistent server? Thanks! No one knows?? -

So, I am new the the forums but have been playing Dayz for a little of 8 days and I wanted to address the logic pattern for wood. I understand the "logic" of get X+Y to get Z and the point is to make something rare or rare-ish. My concern is that the wood analogy breaks down on several levels. First, matches are already fairly rare (i know it has been increased), but right now it feels appropriate in their rarity. Also matches alone means little to nothing currently. Second, if you have matches making a fire out of whatever is actually pretty easy in real life. Finally, when you approach the "need" for wood but don't have every object (I know impossible) useable the level of frustration increases. Case, I just walked by a pile of ruble that has wood parts, planks, wood shed, stack of logs, insert other burnable item here and you see that "hunting" for something to burn is a little over the top. I don't want to make this game easy, I like it difficult, but having a game mechanic that is so intricate while the world itself not, only adds a level of frustration, not achievement.
