Your thoughts on players logging out when SHTF?
MR DELICIOUS replied to tkgwheeler's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I really like the bedroll idea. It's got a really nice, naturalistic feel to it, and the animation wouldn't be hard to nick from the "making fire" one. I think fifteen seconds would probably be enough time though. You should also only be able to log out in the places where you're able to make a fire. It would stop server scrolling for loot through the back room of NWAF barracks, or people sealing off a building with barbed wire only to have someone server scroll into the top floor and circumvent their defences. -
I can back it up. I actually went on just tonight to start rejigging the entire maze, and e were swamped by zombies continuously to the point where we literally ran out of ammo and had to D/C. This new patch has made it almost impossible to survive an encounter in a largish town to survive all the way into the next town. Spending three hours scavenging for barbed wire was nigh impossible with so little ammunition. When the ammo counts get higher, or the zombie count is reduced a bit, or when stopping power means my AK can clear a room with five bullets, I'll post some pics up. (The thing with Arma pics, is they're so damn lacklustre when seen statically. I'll try and take some footage though.) Bear in mind that these elaborate situations are elaborate, and half the time the people D/C. EDIT: Also, I'm not retarded, I can kill a hell of a lot of zombies very efficiently, however, we literally couldn't find enough ammo to match the amount of zombies. If we didn't find at least 2 sets of Winchester rounds, we couldn't survive the encounter. I used three frags to escape at different points.

I've been thinking a lot about the problem of AK/NATO class weapons ammo scarcity versus the hunting variants. The problem basically is that I would often prefer to roll with an enfield or Winchester instead of an AK I find due to the kill-ability - ammo scarcity ratio. In any case, I think an elegant solution would be to make the AK weapon class (and NATO although it may not be realistic) fire ammunition with greater stopping power. It would greatly conserve on ammo and encourage smarter team play if your round was to travel through three or four zombies instead of the standard one. It would obviously also have a much greater attraction for the likes of more than just PKing. Similarly, I find it frustrating that I'm unable to unload full auto point blank with an AK in a crowded corridor and kill no more than one zombie every two seconds (waiting for the first one to fall), when in reality it would have the effect of a blender.

Really, nobody has anything to add on this?

I must have missed something...How do I make a fire?
MR DELICIOUS replied to Time Glitch's topic in New Player Discussion
To be specific, flat areas with short grass. The fire will be placed at your feet. -
I think stamina is rationalised by you having to eat and drink forty times a day. The fifteenth breakfast is the cornerstone to any day.

Learn to read. His "not at all" was related to your "Is it only my opinion that Alt-F4-ing players should get permaban?" Tajin, I edited my original post in this thread to clarify. I don't think it makes much of a difference to alt f4 though as it's just as douchey. If I left the game I wouldnt be able to play the music to them!

Did I say this was easy? Three quarters of players just dc half way through. It took four hours to set up and wait for the very first person to come along. In all four people have gone into the maze, three dced and one died from a frag. Tyranny is the lack of nuance. Here's one to try if you have a few friends playing. Find a deer stand near trees that offer concealment. Wait until someone climbs up into the deer stand to loot the gear. At that exact moment, have all your friends run out and simultaneously lay one barbed wire at the base of the ladder. Sure, they'll disconnect, but it's something more than a bullet to the head.

Just to address, I'd say we slug a third of people we fire on. I'd say another third d/c but either have their legs broken or are dead and the final third die immediately. We fire using CZs at a range of about four hundred meters, and aim for the lower torso so that the bullet drop hits them in the groin or legs. I've found (receiving and dealing) that one CZ round is enough to break legs and begin bleed 90% of the time. When firing at a greater range, it's harder to hear the shot. Recently, we became good enough to reliably hit someone at about 600m where the shot is very quiet (relative to how much noise they themselves are making). The key is to all position in a well traveled area, and in a way where the players will run past you. It's also key to have them running away from or towards you so they're relatively easy to hit at great range. Vybor is great for this as many people all run the same direction to NWAF so it has high enough player traffic but I remote enough to fire unhindered multiple times. The flat nature of the terrain also means their path of travel is very easy to judge. Similarly, I find that the majority of players carry an average of two morphine and four-five bandages. In clarification, we don't fire or move after the shot, and we allow them to morphine and bandage in peace (if they haven't dced). With regards to weapons, we usually outright kill a player with a dangerous weapon (saw or scoped rifle). The majority however are carrying winchesters or aks. I must also point out that the slug is best achieved at night time, as players feel safer in the darkness and are less likely to d/c. If you want to start out, if also recommend you try it out in an area with cover for the victim. If they can crawl into a tree to bandage, they're much less likely to disconnect. You can ultimately lose sight of them this way though. In all, we probably slug one third of players we find. Only a couple of times have we got a group of two or more. I cannot wait until they add a proper time log off feature!

Kill maybe 100 zombies and it'll net you around 1000 humanity. Killing zombies is by far the quickest way to jump up, unless you don't care about your life and just go into the capital cities to kill bandits. Otherwise you can bandage and medic people, but that is by far the most boring, tedious and costly option.

The Official Unofficial Bandit Removal Petition
MR DELICIOUS replied to The Killing Joke's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This whole us and them mentality is incredibly wearing. Very rarely am I ever killed by a pure blood bandit. The majority of the time I take fire from some baseball cap wearing uncle nasty who's eyeing up my rifle with a combination of lust and disdain. People are too used to having to have the game god balance the crap out of everything to give the weak a chance. Get rid of bandit skins and have a more neutral looking green camo skin for all survivors. Judge a man by the actions and words attached to his name, instead of his desert camo. That said, getting direct chat fixed would be a godsend. Rocket needs to make it compulsory to update to the Beta across all servers. The inability to change your name would also be helpful, as reputations would stick and personalities would be solidified. -
Will DayZ cost money after Alpha?
MR DELICIOUS replied to Spirit (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I hope we have to pay. I like rewarding original and hard work. I get more enjoyment and hours out of this than any AAA title in the last four years. Similarly, pay allows full time development and creative freedom for Rocket and co. It also (with good financial management) means a more polished end product. -
After playing the game I have a few suggestions.

Player "Login" is a skilogger
MR DELICIOUS replied to nullkid's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's going to kill the boards if every second post is someone extrapolating how a player logged out before they could kill them. There is so much anecdote/circumstantial "evidence" being used to try to blacklist players. I understand you're annoyed about a firefight being cut short, but seriously, either record it (and the guy getting in cover and then logging out isn't really a punishable offense) or don't bother posting this sort of stuff. You win some, you lose some, you hit some in the head, you hit some in the feet. The longer you play the game, the more you come to realize it's flaws. Also, Winchester ammo is the easiest to find in the entire game, so dont worry. -
You are witnessing the birth of a genre, the MMOZSRPG. Stopping the game now is like pausing a movie at the 60 minute mark

Might be worth having some kind of server rules section so people understand that it's an illegal practice. If this is illegal, a proper logout system really needs to be installed as claiming someone d/ced intentionally is always going to be spurious unless there I explicit footage of the offender. Similarly, it might also be good to have some kind of survivor etiquette section to go along with the rules as this type of stuff is in a very grey area (as in, hard to enforce and hard to punish suitably and hard to prove). I say this because on restarting the patch I was put in the debug zone with fifteen other players (mostly dead) while a bandit lined me up at point blank with an AKM. I d/ced immediately, which would give him grounds to complain and have me punished despite the reality of the situation (us brought together like lovers by the debug god when otherwise I'd be miles and miles away from him.)

The CZ has to be loud. It's the noob pk weapon and it's sound is the drawback (with regards to zombies). Similarly, use a pistol or carry a Winnie in your backpack to swap to in order to finish what you started.
-
I read that it represents how annoyed you are. When it flashes red it means you are "very annoyed" and your character begins to complain in a strained voice as you walk. If it gets red before flashing it symbolizes "a bit uncomfortable" and your character will be constantly complaining and sucking air through his teeth in disapproval whenever anyone says anything nearby, which gets annoying for anyone you're traveling with. It's quite a unique idea that I've not yet seen in any game.

I've done this a few times to new players. It works best when a friend runs along next to the target playing "yakety sax" or TLCs hit song "I don't want no scrubs" through direct chat. It's kind of like a "welcome to Chernarus" ticketape parade where you get to lead the march and the march goes on forever. Edit: just wanted to add that I don't alt-f4 to achieve this. It's simple enough to run near them and then prone as soon as the other player starts to shoot at either me or the zombies.

Signal Flare... is it possible?
MR DELICIOUS replied to Zombielicious's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah a more accessible flare gun would be pretty good. I use the under barrel for this mostly, though a more ubiquitous one would be pretty good. Flares are pretty common fare around docks and other naval places. Should just be a one time use thing like a frag grenade. It would be really funny if it caused the zombies to begin running in different directions. I'd love to watch some guy crawl through a town only to be hit by a flare and covered in zombies. -
Winchester too common - Other low end gear too rare.
MR DELICIOUS replied to cat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Raid any supermarket in the north and you'll have survival apparel pouring out your ears. Running from Berezino supermarket one to supermarket two and you should have the games worth of basic supplies. You'll also have all the M1911 and revolver ammo a man can ask for. The thing I agree with is how common Winchester ammo is at the moment. It really is a must for the game though - something the noobs can get behind. The noise needs to be made much louder however, as at the moment it has the same volume (to a players ears) as a silenced weapon. Similarly, it needs to have a much wider zombie pull radius. I also would prefer if it was a Russian variant shotgun, or perhaps a much simpler double barrel could be introduced to replace the Winchester. It would certainly make the Remington's and co a bit more valuable. Right now I feel like the Winchester is doing the job of two different guns. -
It's your level of randy-ness. Spend too much time alone in the woods with a bunch of other guys and you're going to have to blow of some steam, if you know what I mean. When the bar gets red and flashing you're going to need to get atleast 100m away from your group and tap T and G repeatedly to give a one gun salute. Then the bar will return to normal. I read somewhere that the animation looks a lot like a Winchester reloading.

Just registering the expedient installation of the website, and how pro it all looks now. I'm baffled and impressed by such a quick integration. EDIT: I'm a retard, please delete this thread. It was simply a congratulations on the new website look.

The problem here is that you think there needs to be "balance", as though new spawners need some kind of CoD like perk that makes them harder to kill (beyond the fact that they aren't a challenge to kill and have nothing worthwhile on them). They don't. Why should they be protected? Where are they that they are getting raped so quickly, and what can they do better to survive longer? Interfering with the naturalism of the game in pursuit of an ideal imagined up by the commercial games market to shepherd the inexperienced and bad players. Play to learn, learn and then play, and then survive. Completely intrusive and arbitrary "balancing" is not the way to prevent noob deaths. The best you can do is give those PKers something better to do than camp the shoreline.
