A suggestion to cut down on banditry.

    Read the post moron.

A suggestion to cut down on banditry.

That's the point. I don't want names to come up, but I often make people type in chat when I meet them or play with them, so I know who I'm dealing with.
  3. MR DELICIOUS

A suggestion to cut down on banditry.

How so? Is your real life name ever changing?
  4. I like the thought and effort you've put in here, but I really feel that this is building a shortcut mechanic to something you can do in real life - talk to people and observe them. This wouldn't do anything at all for the problems that it's designed to fix. People will still gun you down before you can get within 50 meters of them. I really don't understand the problem people are having here. Essentially, what this does is force, one way or the other, a level system and a class system. Someone is a bandit who's been alive for a long time (a high ranked evil player) or a medic who's only just begun, or a policeman or whatever. It's just another shortcut to you not having to think or use your brain. I really don't understand how it's possible for bandits to be this much of a problem. The only times I've ever been killed by a player in the SA is when walking through a city - a place that is inherently dangerous anyway. The best thing the dev team could do is to lock player names within the game, and to force them to have actual names. When players are able to change their name instantly over Steam, it allows them to escape a previously bad reputation. Facing a player called "420bLAzin" is also incredibly immersion breaking. When I played vanilla WoW (before the content became multi-server), I knew most of the players on my server due to their reputation - tied to their name or guild. It made the world instantly hierarchical and have a sense of history to the place. You would follow the actions of players in the top guilds, or the vendors who ruled the auction house. It also made the world very competitive, and the relationships very important, as the amount of players was finite (10k). You actually had to protect your reputation. If the devs made this a thing in Day Z, I guarantee you'd see banditry drop and cooperation begin, as players who are killed by a bandit previously would show them little to no mercy when they have the upper hand.
  5. I suggest either ruining the joy of exploration and googling a Chernarus+ loot map, or going for an explore to any of the numerous military bases around the Western side of the map. Similarly, the giant tanker up north of Berezino is also a military spawn. You can also find guns in long feeding sheds and cars parked around. Try running past Elektro to the military camp, Balota airfield, then north to the military camp, then north again to Zelenogorsk (two barracks and a jail), then to Green mountain (a jail), then to Vyborg (another military camp). That should give you enough military gear.
  6. Where are you looking? At this stage, there are over 30 places to loot firearms on each map, with several loot spawns at each. It would be physically impossible for bandits to guard every single one. I'm going to guess that you're going to an airfield, Chern or Elektro.

How to make the map more engaging.

Thanks for taking the time to read it. Yeah, I really feel that the colour of the real world is somewhat missing at the moment. I don't mind identical houses, because when they're spread out and distributed well they can create a great effect. I definately think those models do need to be altered though, so that some are more indicative of the apocalypse - probably a job for their level designer (in terms of placing blood streaks in interesting ways, graffiti, etc. I feel that they could take a cue from CoD 1 and 2. One reason the CoD franchise became so massive was because they relied on movie imagery to create their single player campaigns. I think the Day Z could transport a lot of movie imagery (particularly from the 28 series) in with great effect.

How to make the map more engaging.

It's basically a list of real life features (sports fields, aircraft crashes, cinemas, quarries etc.) that should be added to the game in order to make the map engaging and realistic. There are also suggestions for each entry as to how you could make it interesting from a game design perspective.

    20 Plus Million Dollars Later...

Lol motherfucker you need to learn how good you have it. These guys aren't EA. They're asking for active community feedback, implementing it, updating the game every 2 or 3 days when they could be on holiday (which, in the world outside of the States is more than 2 weeks a year). The reason they've made $20 mil is because they're good at what they do, and I don't see any time in the near future when that'll change. I played with Rocket on the very first public server of Day Z in early 2012. The way he's interacted with the community has not changed. He's been generous, firm against stupid generic suggestions (back when people thought they could "improve" this game with "balance" - talent trees, NPCs etc.) and open to good advice (and implemented it). Go play BF4. Pay $40-$60 more for a mess, and then watch as they actively ignore all community discussion, disable "new" features because they're ludicrously broken and badly designed. Watch as they "fix" issues (like netcode) and then magically the issue is completely unchanged (because, let's face it, it's easier to write a changelog than work on an issue with your core infrastructure). The idea that you think you can pay $30 and treat it like your own $20 mil investment to a developer who has proven for 2 years to be good to their word (with little financial profit to themselves) makes you look like a little bitch. You don't go and buy a kettle at Walmart/Target wherever and demand to have public knowledge and daily accounts of the financials on how they're running their business. What world of entitlement do you live in where you think this is acceptable? Grow the fuck up.

    TRADING

Baby i got what u need
  11. So most posts on here now seem to consist of "I am outraged that somebody killed me" to "look how funny I am, i killed heaps of bambies with a gun lol". I don't really have a problem with people sniping at military installations, or in capital cities on principal, but I do have a problem with how fucking boring it is. We get it. You have a gun and they don't. So recently, I decided I'd try to kill people in relatively inventive ways. As a bambie, I went north to Berezino and to the hospital. I picked up a couple of household cleaning products and some food and water. With little else, I decided I'd run north to NE airfield to see what was cracking up at the server loot roulette table. Sure enough, I'm in Krasnostav and I bump into four hilarious server hoppers who've come into town to try and find some food. Seeing me as no threat, they decided to rob me. (The kind of people who you surrender to and it takes them a good 2 minutes to process what is going on and decide whether or not they'll kill you.) So sure enough, I give them all my stuff bar the detergent that I've emptied all over my apples. They tell me to run off and then begin to eat. Then they get sick and begin to go blind. I sit around the corner watching and waiting as they begin running around, not being able to work out what's happening. For fun, I began to play "My Heart Will Go On" quite loudly through my directional chat, and they have a bit of trouble communicating over the incredibly loud music. After quite a while I walk back up to them with an axe, and put two of them down. The other two combat logged. I was pretty satisfied in the knowledge that those two would probably die as well. After giving this a go, I decided it would be pretty fun to run down to Kamyshovo and drop a whole heaps of poisoned food all over the road. I'm pretty satisfied that it's one of the worst ways to go. I'm doing a couple of experiments with handcuffs, ropes and baseball bats, but are there any other ways to kill people inventively?

    [Suggestion] Gag People

I'm noticing a whole lot of gaffer tape in the game, and I think it could be a cool addition to the game if you were able to gag people with it. It would be an option like handcuffing, and it'd disable your direct chat (type and speaking). When the anti-combat log changes are implemented, this would allow you to silence potentially loud captives. Items to gag people: Gaffer tape Rags
  13. MR DELICIOUS

    Interesting ways to kill people.

Just as an FYI, you get more skill points for killing heavily armed players with this than you do bambies. Also, the only way to really recover from this is to force yourself to vomit. People can do this by overconsuming food or water, so when you poison them you want to walk them somewhere far from civilisation, or a place that would require them to go somewhere equally dangerous (like a capital city). I'd also really like to be able to poison water sources, either with rotten fruit/meat or detergent. Similarly, I think it'd also be really fun to be able to set buildings on fire. Add to that the ability to use rope to tie doors shut and we can turn this game into "War Crimes: The Game".

What are your thoughts on camping snipers at Balota?

No. Only Balota. You can't find one in Zelenogorsk, the giant military camp north of Balota, NWAF, Vyborg, Chernogorsk, Elektro, the container ship near Olsha, the factory in the SE, Berezino, NEAF, Krasnostav, Green Mountain, or the police stations or barns in most major towns. Just Balota.
  15. Hahahahaha you're talking about Balota like it's a hidden Aztec temple. You know you got an entire map north of it? Tell us something actually interesting. Your story could only get more boring if you killed them in Chern or Elektro (although I don't know - killing people literally as they spawn may be even more boring).

    System to Punish KoS

I struggle to believe that striking someone with a giant axe one or more times is going to cause less damage to their gear than hitting them with a single bullet. Unless you're firing a 50 cal or hollow points.
  17. MR DELICIOUS

I think the map is too small for cars. Am I the only one

This is the thing. You can't look at this like a game that has to be "balanced". If players work hard to take all the vehicles in the map (which is ludicrously difficult) then they deserve them. Similarly, well implemented vehicles are a really necessary part of this game. At the moment, the SA version is suffering the post-release pre-vehicle growing pains that the mod did back in early 2012. Without any forced teamwork exercises, people get bored after getting gear and spend the majority of their time playerkilling. Vehicles give a large teamwork aspect to the game, as putting them back together is very time consuming and dangerous to do alone. If every single village has a couple of ATV's, then sure, it's going to be shitty. But finding a car or truck every now and then is really satisfying and quickly becomes a point of interest.
  18. MR DELICIOUS

What are your thoughts on camping snipers at Balota?

I have no problem with camping snipers, but hahahahahahahaha at the fact that you try to justify it as teaching people not to go to military installations. When I handcuff snipers and force feed them detergent (if they don't uber pro combat log) it's because I'm teaching them not to snipe military installations. In playing this game for nearly two years, my experience has been that 95% of the guys killing people at airfields are people who have just server hopped and accrued all their gear in the last 30 minutes. The only problem I have with snipers is that it's the most boring way to mess with people. Especially sniping bambies. You can poison people with food, handcuff them to stuff, execute them with an axe, strafe a house with hundreds of M4 rounds and you're sniping a dude with no weapon?
  19. MR DELICIOUS

To the people whining about KoSing etc.

People have complained about banditry from day 1 of the mod. I played in the first two days and 5 of the 25 players on the first server kept asking for PVE servers, a health bar and a punish system for bandits (hahahahaha). Here's a pro-tip. If you want to team up with someone, approach someone who is equally helpless. Don't approach someone who is much more geared than you. They know they have a lot to lose, and you have a lot to gain. You can only let a geared player approach you, or take mercy on you. Some will, some won't. As time goes on, you'll find that people will mature and begin to be kind because that's one of the richest aspects of this game. I personally can always find people to group up with because I take them by surprise, am fully geared, and have an assault rifle pointed at their head. I then make friends with them and play with them on Steam. Similarly, use "social intelligence" to work out if the new guy you just met is actually going to try and kill you. It's not particularly difficult. If he doesn't want to group up, doesn't talk, doesn't even type, then it's probably a bad idea to spend time pursuing that relationship.

    Why this mod is failing

The thread older than time itself. It has been said since day one equally that this mod is dying and that bandits are ruining it. This entire concept is new. Nobody has been in this territory before, so it's rough. The front end of the survival aspects have been built. We're in the nicely populated first movie of a multipart zombie apocalypse trilogy. Now, like films like 28 days/weeks the developers have to work out actionable ways players can begin to create within the game. This can only be sorted out once engine capabilities are understood and innovated. Obviously there's also the question of what's possible and what isn't. Suggesting anti bandit unnatural in game mechanic nerfs are never going to take flight. Like always, it's going to be a question of building and adding, not being tempted to play the OCD stat balancing game seen elsewhere.
  21. Due to the overwhelming amount of times this thread has been made, I'm making a definitive one to rule them all. Add certain vehicle spawn locations and I'll pop them in the OP list. No hearsay please. BAF OFFROAD spawns at Dubrovka, at the crossroad next to a fence. BAF OFFROAD spawns at Blunt Rocks. UAZ spawns in central Dolina. UAZ spawns near NE airfield hangars and control tower. UAZ spawns at Stary Military Camp. UAZ spawns at International Hotel in Chern. UAZ spawns at Green Mountain. UAZ spawns half sunken on the edge of Black Lake SE of NEAF. UAZ spawns at NW airfield in the walled-in area beside the firehouse. 3 ATVs spawn at the most western house in Tulga. 2 ATVs spawn at top of mountain dirt trail NW of NWAF. 2 ATVs spawn at Green Mountain. 1 ATV spawns on the main road west of Elektrodzavosk. A MOTORBIKE spawns outside Berezino hospital. 2 CARS spawn at the three Gorka barns, 2 CARS spawn at the gas station east of Gorka. 2 CARS spawn at the Zelenogorsk supermarket. A HUEY spawns at NWAF north part of the runway. A HUEY spawns at the top of ROG castle. A HUEY spawns in the hangar at the NEAF. A HUEY spawns on the roof of the north-most hospital in Chernogorsk. A WHITE HILUX spawns beside a house near the southern barns/factory area. A WHITE HILUX spawns in the Prigor gated/fenced-off area. A BUS spawns immediately SW of Vybor and sits on the road. A BUS spawns at the Polana general store. A BUS spawns in the large barn north of Zelenogorsk. A BUS spawns outside the apartment complexes in Berezino. A BUS spawns in the big red warehouse at Kozlovka. A BUS spawns in the main square in Chernogorsk. A BUS spawns in the field near the Elektrozavodsk power plant. A HATCHBACK spawns in the small complex between Drakon and Elektrodzavosk. A HATCHBACK spawns at the North West of Tulga. A RED SEDAN spawns just south of Prigor. A RED SEDAN spawns in a compound one building west of the TEC building in Elektrodzavosk. A RED SEDAN spawns in the Red Warehouse in Dolina. A RED SEDAN spawns in the factory area of Berezino. A BOAT spawns near the lighthouse west of Elektrodzavosk. 2 BOATS spawn near Nizhnoye harbor. 2 BOATS spawn at Otmel's dock. Also, really good job on the map Darkki. I'll update it to the main post. EDIT: For all the new additions.

    Two bugs that remain.

In an effort to be helpful, I'll point out these two bugs. Myself and my compadre MR DELIGHTFUL quickly discovered that if you synchronise gutting an animal, you double the amount of meat you carve. If we kill a goat and gut it at the same time, instead of four meat being available (that's what the prompt says), eight are actually there. Similarly, it is impossible to fire out of the supermarket main entrance, as it appears that invisible glass is there. To kill zombies, you must wait for them to fully enter the supermarket before you fire.

They will address racism but not rape?

I have female hairs. I feel like going through and warning people for the sexism (the worse crime was committed on humour than women) but I think being unable to make a joke better than that is punishment enough. In any case, I hearby close this tedious shit-fest in the name of humour and my patience level.
  25. I live in Sydney, play on any server under 300 ping and the Beta is backwards compatible, meaning that if you have it, you can play on any server and direct chat will work. And if you don't know then now you know.
